Chapter 6 Son Of The Night

  • Celine’s POV
  • Benjamin looked at me so calmly at that moment that I felt powerful. Somehow, he wanted to tell me that everything was going to be fine.
  • As soon as I heard Jordan's powerful voice, I turned and saw him talking to a man I had never seen before.
  • From that moment on, I was certain that everything would be fine.
  • "Dad is here, my love," I told Ben as I tried to hold back the tears, watching Jordan's tough stance on the other side of the glass.
  • "Ma'am, who is that man?" a nurse called out to me. I was sure she had heard what I had said to the baby, but I needed confirmation.
  • "He's Ben's father, let's go." The woman nodded and hurried out, chatting quickly with the man who couldn't take his eyes off us.
  • He followed her, and for a few minutes, I mentally thanked any deity willing to help me save my son.
  • "The pain will stop, sweetheart, now everything will be fine," I said, cradling my little one and watching as his eyes began to close from exhaustion.
  • When Jordan entered the room, his aura of dominance impressed me. I couldn't deny that he was a force, and his presence was marked wherever he was. I saw the nurse measure the man and look at me curiously.
  • "Do you need anything?" I said as her eyes roamed his body for the third time, and she seemed to snap out of her daze.
  • "Oh, no, ma'am. I'm going to get the baby's medication and I'll be right back," she said. I agreed as I saw Jordan standing at the door.
  • "Come in," I said softly.
  • "I'm trying to find something," he said, and I didn't understand. His steps were slow around the room and he didn't come directly towards Ben and me, as I had imagined.
  • "This room is sterilized. Ben has no immunity, and any common bacteria or virus could be deadly." I looked at the baby who was now sleeping peacefully in my arms and kissed his forehead, although the mask prevented me from feeling his skin against mine.
  • Finally, Jordan walked towards us silently, and I found it curious that a man of his size could be so quiet.
  • His eyes stared at me for a few seconds before looking at the baby. He brought his face close to him, observing every detail of my son, as if trying to find some resemblance between them.
  • "If you want, I can request a DNA test today." He stepped back and looked at me intently.
  • "It's not necessary, I know he's mine. Even if his scent is tainted by the drugs they're giving him, I can recognize his smell." He ran a finger through the few hairs left on the baby's head. "This medication is killing him," I glared at him and placed the baby in his crib, laying him down carefully, making sure the nasal tube and IV didn't come loose.
  • "Let's talk somewhere else." He nodded, approaching the baby again and wrinkling his nose.
  • My patience, which had seemed intact in the morning, began to dissipate with the rough gestures of the father of my child. We took off the protective clothing, threw it in the trash can, and left the isolated room. As soon as we reached the hallway, I saw the man who had been talking to him before, now talking to two others near the elevator, and another man standing by Benjamin's room door.
  • "Who are they?" I asked, not understanding.
  • "My security team. This hospital has ridiculous security to access the rooms."
  • "I don't think it's necessary. I've never had any problems with it," I said, staring at him.
  • "Did you have to authorize me to come up?" I thought about his words and was startled by his response. "I just had to say I was his father, and they authorized me. Anyone could have done it. You should be more careful. With the position you have, I think you have some enemies, and as soon as they find out he's my son, you'll have more coming after you." His words scared me. There was no way to argue with him about that. He rubbed the hospital's failure in my face.
  • "I can hire a team," I said, squeezing one hand with the other.
  • "It's not necessary. Mine will do the job until the baby is out of here." I crossed my arms, irritated by his words.
  • "If you don't want the DNA, why did you come? I knew I had to stay calm, or he would leave again, but his manner was annoying."
  • "I came to save my son. Isn't that what you want? Although I think those doctors of yours are only speeding up the process of his death." My eyes widened as I realized. "It smells like chemicals. Everything about him is fragile..."
  • I raised my hand and made him stop talking. "Your son has a rare type of leukemia. The doctors are doing everything they can, but the disease keeps progressing and..."
  • "I know. I've read the medical history," he said quickly, ignoring my protests.
  • "You read it? How did you read the medical history?"
  • "As I said, the security of this hospital is not the best." I was stunned by this revelation.
  • How powerful was this man to have access to so much? He looked like nothing more than a rugged lumberjack when I first saw him at the pub, but now, here he stood, dominating the entire situation with an effortless authority.
  • "Who are you?" I asked again, my voice a mix of curiosity and disbelief.
  • He stared at me for a long moment, his gaze piercing.
  • "I thought I made that clear already," he said, his tone laced with sarcasm, a smirk playing at the edge of his lips.
  • "No, you didn’t. You said my son is the son of an Alpha. What the hell does that even mean?" I pulled him further from Benjamin’s room, aware of the nurse glancing curiously our way.
  • His eyes locked on mine. "I am the Alpha of the Black Moon pack."
  • I almost laughed, my hand flying to my mouth to suppress it. But the way his eyes narrowed made the sound die in my throat.
  • "Do you really expect me to believe you're a wolf?" I couldn't stop the mocking smile from forming. "If that's the case, is my son a dog or something?"
  • His gaze darkened, fury radiating off him, and I saw the faint tremble in his lower lip. He stepped closer, his breath warm against my skin.
  • "Lupine," he growled, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "My son is lupine. Don’t insult me with your ignorance, human."
  • The amused laughter bubbled up again, but before it could escape, he was on me, pressing me hard against the wall, his body flush against mine. The sudden closeness sent a shiver down my spine, and my breath caught in my throat. His hand reached up, brushing my cheek in a way that was almost tender, as if he were reminiscing about the night we met, until his finger trailed down to my neck.
  • The sensation was sharp and compelling. I felt the sting as something sliced against my skin, and when I looked down, I saw it.
  • His index finger had transformed into a long, lethal claw. A moment ago, it had been perfectly human.
  • I froze, my heartbeat thudding wildly, as he leaned in closer, his breath hot on my ear.
  • "Do you still think this is a joke?" His voice was a low growl, feral and dangerous.
