Chapter 7
- Damon's POV:
- My mate was crying and slightly trembling in fear on the ground as water poured on us.
- I stood a meter away from her in just my boxers, watching her every movement sadly.
- It wasn't my intention to scare her at all. All I wanted was to be close to her.
- When I walked into my bedroom, I was surprised to pick up Maggie's scent as well as my mate's.
- I knew she was the one who was going to take good care of her because she was very specialized in looking after the injured, sick, and mostly those people who wanted to end their lives due to having no hope to live on. She was like the mother of our pack who everyone respected and looked up to. What I didn't expect was her choosing my room to help her bathe. I guessed that my Beta had told her that she was my mate. When it came to her, my beta openly told her everything without holding back.
- At times, I hated that about him, but most times I was happy that he did.
- When she came out of the bathroom and mind-linked me on how she was going to get a few clothes from her own room, I volunteered to be with my mate until she had returned, and that's exactly what I did. I took off my clothes, remaining in only my boxers, and went into the bathroom. My mate was standing in the shower with her back towards me.
- I stood still for a few seconds, looking at her bruised body angrily. Her whole body was badly bruised, and she had a few cuts around her arms and feet. Although her long hair, which was covered in leaves, was covering her back, I could tell that she had bruises there as well.
- I quickly moved and grabbed a washcloth, applying bath liquid on it before I began scrubbing her body.
- She looked so relaxed that it made me and my wolf happy and at ease. As time went by, she began speaking, and all I could do was admire the sound of her voice.
- Then she began talking about how much she endured, and my heart ached for all she had gone through.
- When she talked about how she deserved the punishment, I became furious, and I couldn't keep quiet. That's why I went on to ask her who had hurt her, but it only ended up scaring her badly.
- I felt and wanted to comfort her, yet I didn't know where to begin or what to say to her," I said silently to my wolf, "let's just let her be."
- "We can't," he responded.
- "Can't you see we are contradicting ourselves? A few minutes ago, we wanted to keep our vow of never loving any woman or letting her into our heart. The very next moment, we want to love and let her in. We can't go on like this at all. We have to either decide to be with her or let her go," I told him.
- He growled in warning, then kept quiet.
- My words were rather harsh for both of us, but they were true.
- "At least let us talk to her for just a little bit before sending her away," he pleaded softly.
- "Okay," I answered, then dropped the washcloth.
- "Hey, I'm sorry to have scared you. I didn't come here to do anything to you or hurt you in any way. When Maggie told me how she had left you all alone here, I decided to come and just help you out with whatever you might need," I said softly as her scared expression turned into disgust.
- "That's sick. Why would you want to see a blind girl bathe? Do you get off on seeing naked bodies of defenseless women?" she asked, shocking me.
- For the first time, I couldn't see the scared lady that was cowering a second ago. The lady I was looking at was a strong woman ready to defend herself despite showing her weak side.
- "Actually, no. If I had such a hobby, I would have easily called one of my women to act vulnerably in front of me, and believe me when I say no woman in this place would have hesitated to give me such an act," I answered calmly.
- "Then is it a pity you feel? Seeing how you are here, you must want something from me, or is it that your women lack something?" she whispered as I angrily let out a loud growl.
- She took a deep breath and lowered her gaze to the floor.
- "Don't scare her. Remember, she is human! Her being away from the people she knows is hard for her as it is," my wolf growled back in warning.
- He was right. Although she had said all those stupid words, she was still trembling in fear in front of me.
- "I'm sorry. I apologize for scaring you again. I just lost my cool for a second. To answer your question, I am not taking pity on you, and I'll never ever do that. I'm also not a messed-up guy who takes an interest in defenseless women. I know I'm not a perfect man, and neither are most of my family. We all have scars that we bear, but that doesn't make us feel ashamed. We show them off proudly and look at them as a remembrance of the past," I said, then moved closer and knelt on my knees in front of her.
- "To be honest with you, I came here to spend some time with you and to get to know you better. You can't understand what I truly mean, but I'll try to explain this to you. The moment I set my eyes on you, I felt like I had known you for a very long time. There was this familiar feeling I felt. When I heard you beg for death, I felt sad, and I wanted to help you see the beauty in living. You might not believe me now, but I promise you that what I'm saying right now is the truth," I said.
- I was about to move my hand and touch her shoulder when I heard the bedroom door open.
- "Alpha Damon, are you still around?" Maggie asked.
- "Yes, I'm in the bathroom," I answered as I stood up.
- "By the way, I'm Damon. But some people here call me Alpha Damon. The first name is actually a word that means the same as a leader," I said, then kept quiet, noticing how she had relaxed upon hearing Maggie's voice
- "If you don't mind, may I know your name?" I asked softly.
- She looked to the side and kept quiet.
- I sighed heavily in defeat and walked to where my clothes were, putting them on despite my boxers being wet. I wasn't going to walk half-naked in front of Maggie.
- "Sherry," she responded, as a smile formed on my face.
- "You have a beautiful name," I said, then walked out of the bathroom, going to the bedroom where Maggie was waiting.
- Immediately, she looked at me, then lowered her gaze to the ground.
- "Go and attend to her. She was really terrified of me," I said honestly.
- She quickly went to the bed, putting her clothes there and rushing into the bathroom.
- I smirked, then went out of the room to give them enough privacy. I was going to take a bath in my study room and change into a clean set of clothes. After all, there was enough progress between me and my mate.
