• Lily could hear Victor's big steps, following her up the stairs. Something seemed dragging her feet as she ran until she closed the door to her room. Even though she knew it was also pointless, she locked it. She was at a loss for what to do. For Orion to be lying on the floor, Victor must have done something to him.
• Opening the sliding door on the balcony for escape was a considered plan, but unless she intended to die, she ought not to have jumped out. The ground-level ceiling in Drew's home was taller than typical, which made the upper floors even higher.
