Mistaken
Narrated by Leo
Jack walks past me with a motherfucking smile on his face, he seems to be happy and delighted to be there.
Close behind comes his father, he too with a shitty smile on that shitty face.
I don't understand why they come to smile.
Frank - But you're very innocent kid - he says, not taking that stupid smile off his mouth.
Nicholas looks me up and down like I'm a bug he could squash at any moment.
Nicholas - But what did you think, little housewife, that my daughter, a Carter, would really run away with you? What innocence boy. Don't you see where you belong, and where Evelyn Carter belongs? - he speaks dryly.
I really don't know what they're talking about.
Frank - You don't say anything? Are you going to stand there with that beast face? - He tries to provoke me.
Leo - Where's Evy! What did you do with her? - I ask suspiciously, I'm about to kill these two hyena guys here in front of me.
They both laugh out loud, and that sound even makes my soul shiver.
Nicholas - What did we do with her? But you're such a fool, how do you think we knew you were coming here today? What was the fairy of secrets that came to tell us? And don't you wonder why Evy hasn't shown up yet? - he looks at the watch on his wrist - it's too late! She is never late. Do you think she's still coming? I can't believe what he's saying, is he just saying it to hurt me, or not? I look at their house, hoping she'll show up and tell them it's all a lie, but she doesn't.
Frank- It's not even worth looking at, kid, Evy isn't even here anymore, she wanted to leave before the night came. At this hour, she is already far away, to the place she chose, far away from you. It's true, she sent you a message. To forget her, that what you had was a big mistake, and that thank God, she woke up in time to make a big mistake. To never look for it because it wasn't even worth it.
I by this time, tears fell down my face.
Frank - Ohhh, poor dad, he was really in love with Evy - he says mockingly.
That said, he laughs and the father does the same.
Nicholas - Come on son, let's sleep.
And they turn their backs and walk away, leaving me there not knowing what to think, not knowing what to do, not knowing how to act.
I don't want to believe I've been deceived all this time, I can't have been that blind, no, they're lying, they can only be lying.
I look at the house one more time, but it's all dark.
Now in the silence of the night, the only thing I hear is the wind blowing, bringing the rain briefly.

After that fateful night, Leo came home and tried to get his thoughts together, called her cell phone over and over, but he was always out of the loop.
Monday arrived, and he was hoping to see her at school, but he didn't, for three days, he was always looking for her, nobody knew about Evy.
But someone knew, or claimed to know.
After a week, he didn't know what to do, or who to ask.
Cinthya was always studying him from afar, and when she saw the right time, she decided to put the second part of her plan into action.
She approached him, softly, like a snake approaching its prey.
Cinthya - I know what happened to Evy - she says, leaning against the wall next to him.
He was startled when he heard what she said.
Leo - You know? So please tell me. She is fine? he asked worriedly.
Cinthya - I think so, from what I know from a reliable source, she asked her father to leave, to another city, far away from here.
Leo looks at her surprised and confused.
Leo - Did she ask? But why? Was it her father who forced her?
Cinthya-And why would her father oblige? - she says, pretending to be silly - No, Leo, from what I've been told, she wanted to leave, I think there was a boy who wouldn't let go of her, and she felt sorry for him and stayed with him, until he asked her to run away with him. Obviously Evy at that time saw that this boy was crazy, her words, and asked her father to send her to another city far away from here. - she says carefree.
Leo - Who told you that? - he asks in panic.
Cinthya-A maid at Evy's house, told one of my maids, that she likes to gossip a lot and told me.
Leo cries, after all it's true, she deceived him, more than a year to be deceived.
Cinthya continues her drama, puts her hand over her mouth if doing it by surprise.
Cinthya - Oh my god, you are that boy!
She pulls him into a more discreet corner.
She hugs him, and he cries on her shoulder, she smiles, the plan is almost complete.
Cinthya - She's not worth that Leo - she says, pretending to be affectionate - you deserve much better, she was always a pretender, a wolf in sheep's clothing.
He pulls away from her and quickly wipes away the tears.
Leo - You're right, I'm not going to cry anymore, not for her, not for any other woman - he says decidedly and bitterly.
He turns his back and walks away at a hurried pace.
Of course, from then on, Cinthya didn't rest until she went to bed with Leo, which she managed, they walked together, but for a short time.
A month and a half later, Leo left Wyoming, on a scholarship, for the great city of New York.
