Chapter 2 Revisited
- "Ms. Valerie, let's get started—" A pleasant and gentle voice reached Valerie's ears. Her brain was whirling from the shock, but she was immobile in her limbs that had lost all bone. Valerie pondered, "What? Did I not pass away? I died in a village, am I right? Mrs. Valerie? Is that someone speaking to me? What makes this voice sound so recognizable? Valerie blinked quickly, straining to open her heavy eyelids. She turned her head to face the voice. She finally made out an elderly gentleman. "Jayvion?" Indeed, Ms. Valerie. Suddenly wide awake, Valerie sat up quickly.
- "Did you save me, Jayvion?" How come? Ms. Valerie, what are you talking about? Jayvion grinned in response to Valerie's peculiar query. His confused gaze was fixed on Valerie. It was unclear to Valerie whether or not she was dreaming. She posed the question openly. "Jayvion, are you also here?" "Miss Valerie... I'm not sure I get it. Where ought I to go? Valerie was also perplexed. The young woman and the elderly man exchanged questioning looks as they glanced at one another. Valerie scurried from her bed. She straightened herself on the bed and her heart fell. Her heart had completely collapsed. Valerie held up her hand and gave it a close inspection. She looked around her, touching her body and face in bewilderment. Everything had a familiar appearance. "Will I have to repeat this in the afterlife?" Valerie was taken aback. Jayvion couldn't think.
- Softly, he knelt in front of Valerie, his expression worried. "I apologize, Ms. Valerie." The elderly man placed his hand on Valerie's forehead after taking off his white gloves and adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses. "You don't have a temperature. Are you too worn out from creating the sachet that calms Mr. Kieran's nerves, Ms. Valerie? A sachet to ease the nerves? The word made Valerie feel something. She jerked her head toward her beat-up desk. Herbs known to ease nerves and a partially completed sachet were arranged on the desk.
- It was Valerie who had chosen those plants and created Kieran's sachet. A soiled full-length mirror was placed next to her bed. Valerie pivoted and peered at herself in the mirror. She noticed a small girl wearing pale pajamas. The girl had a sickly yellow tone to her skin and hair. Valerie gave herself a firm cheek slap. Jayvion shrieked at the din. "No, Valerie, Ms. What isn't right? Give up harming yourself. With tears in her eyes, Valerie continued smacking herself without stopping. She was venting her grief and rage by smacking herself. She had returned. Not only that, but she had returned to her youthful self.
- "Didn't I suffer enough last time?" Valerie wondered. Why was I sent back by fate? Why me? Valerie kept asking herself those questions in her heart. Her puffy cheeks streamed with tears. Jayvion halted her with an iron grip around her wrists. Valerie lowered her head. Snot and tears fell freely on the ground. She wasn't crying aloud, though. Her hunched back and trembling shoulder were the only obvious indicators of her feelings. Jayvion's shocked eyes became larger. In case Valerie damaged her any more, he gripped tighter.
- His breathing was so labored that his white bread trembled. When Jayvion witnessed this undernourished little girl's sobs, something inside of him snapped. "Miss Valerie... You are free to cry. It took Jayvion a long time to breathe. Valerie calmed down and felt better after hearing his soft voice. Okay, she thought to herself. I'm back, then. Life continues. Valerie finally composed herself and timidly glanced up at Jayvion. Jayvion's eyes also started to flush. Valerie saw the compassion shining in Jayvion's eyes. She came to the realization that the only member of the Horton family she could trust was this white-haired gentleman. Jayvion, I'm alright now. Jayvion let Valerie go after realizing she was no longer crying.
- He instantly took out a handkerchief and wiped Valerie’s face carefully. Alright. I'll fill a glass with water for you. You must have that. Jayvion got up and went to get some hot water from the kitchen. He was still reeling from the experience, so he didn't dare ask any more questions. He had sensed Valerie's deep sorrow before. She was in such a precarious situation. Jayvion was unwilling to let it out. After turning to face Valerie's chamber, Jayvion shook his head and exhaled deeply. He quickly made his way to the kitchen, blinking the tears from his eyes. Valerie need hydration.
- Alone in the center of the room, Valerie surveyed her surroundings. There were only four white walls in the room, plus some worn-out furniture. Valerie was required to go outdoors in order to use the restroom. Valerie proceeded towards the desk and retrieved the herbs she had gathered. She played around with the shoddy-made sachet. According to Jayvion, she made it for Kieran. Valerie gave a snort. The Horton family's eldest son and eventual president of the company was Kieran. He was a handsome, intelligent, and eligible bachelor who was 25 years old.
- Kieran was like a great prince in Capstead. Everyone needed to win over Kieran, aside from the Fisher family. The Fishers were unique, though, as they embodied the same noble Kieran. Valerie's knowledge from her past existence was one thing, though. To preserve the standing of the Horton family in Capstead Kieran had been working nonstop, suffering from headaches and insomnia. He was having more mental problems as a result of his insufficient sleep. But Kieran was unable to discover a suitable treatment for his sleeplessness.Valerie used to give Kieran a glass of water infused with vitamin B every night to help him sleep better.
- Valerie was positive that the person she had been before had thought Kieran had accepted her and that giving him the sachet would strengthen their bond. "No," she thought to herself. Valerie. You're so weak. Valerie silently finished off the sachet and tossed the herbs in the trash along with the needles and yarns. She didn't feel guilty about doing it. Jayvion reappeared carrying a bottle of hot water.
- "Miss Valerie, please sip some water. It helps your stomach as well, especially after a wake-up. Valerie's frigid demeanor vanished as soon as she spotted Jayvion. She gazed at the gracious man with a radiant smile. "I'm grateful, Jayvion." "Thank you very much, Ms. Valerie." With grace, Jayvion handed Valerie a glass of warm water, and observed as she sipped the entire contents. However, he had been sneaking peeks at the container from the edges of his eyes. Jayvion was full of surprises when he woke up. He was taken aback at that time when Valerie appeared to give up trying to win Kieran over.
