Chapter 6 Check Ariana

  • Martha let out a piercing scream, disregarding her dignity.
  • This news was like a bolt from the blue for them.
  • Jared asked, "How could this happen?"
  • Jared's face turned pale. Didn't they say Simon isn't interested in women? At twenty-seven, Simon hasn't even been rumored to be dating, so how could he suddenly be married?
  • Elaine, unwilling to accept this, snatched the phone and adopted a sweet, demure voice to probe. "Adam, do you know which young lady Mr. Hunt has married? It would help us prepare a gift for the wedding."
  • On the other end of the line, Adam was instantly touched by her generosity and shared everything he knew.
  • "Miss Ransom, you're too generous. But we haven't met Mrs. Hunter yet. We will be sending you a generous gift later as a token of our apology," Adam said.
  • When she heard this, Elaine's expression darkened. After exchanging a few pleasantries with Adam, she realized he was tight-lipped and had to let it go.
  • Once the call ended, a cloud of despair settled over Jared's family.
  • Jared said, "This is a disaster. The golden opportunity for the Ransom family to rise to the top has just slipped through our fingers."
  • He slammed his hand on the coffee table, and his gaze toward Elaine turned cold.
  • "Mr. Hunt is married, and the seniors of the Hunt family didn't even know. I doubt this marriage will last. There's still a chance for Elaine," he said.
  • Sensing Jared's dark mood, Martha quickly tried to salvage the situation.
  • She said, "Why don't I call Hannah and ask her about it?"
  • Elaine was fuming and picked up her phone, ready to call her best friend Hannah Campbell.
  • Hannah was Simon's distant relative and currently lived in the Hunt family.
  • "What bad luck. I'm going out for some fresh air." Jared coldly cursed under his breath, not even glancing at the two women as he strode away.
  • Martha touched her face, wincing in pain.
  • She had been married into the Ransom family for ten years, but this was the first time she'd been in such a humiliating situation, and to make it worse, Jared was disgusted with her.
  • Martha looked up at the second floor, her eyes filled with venom.
  • Martha said, "It's all Ariana's fault. One day, I will tear her into pieces."
  • Elaine said, "Mom, she won't be smug for much longer."
  • A glint of malice flashed in Elaine's eyes as she pulled out her phone and opened her private chat with Daniel, sending a message.
  • In the dimly lit room, Ariana sat at her desk, her fingers flying across the keyboard.
  • She quickly pulled up a raw chat interface filled with codes and sent a message to Nine.
  • As soon as she sent the message, she received a flurry of question marks in response, followed by a sentence.
  • Ariana stared at the screen, her expression darkening.
  • Six months ago, Ariana placed in the top three at the World Hacking Competition, gaining notoriety on the dark web and connecting with the powerful dark web merchant, Nine.
  • Through Nine, she occasionally took on small tasks to earn some extra cash, but to avoid trouble, she never accepted high-difficulty jobs.
  • But now, the situation was different.
  • Ariana hadn't avenged her mother, and she still owed Simon 99 million dollars.
  • After finishing her chat with Nine, Ariana closed her laptop and took out her phone to message Simon.
  • She initially considered calling him but remembered that it was his work hours, so she decided against it.
  • After sending the message, Ariana waited for over ten minutes, but there was no reply.
  • Surely he wouldn't run off with my money, would he?
  • A wave of anxiety washed over Ariana, and she stood up restlessly, her gaze landing on a glass jar on the shelf.
  • Inside the jar was a cheap plastic ring meant for children, engraved with a name.
  • Seeing the ring made Ariana's heart soften as memories of her time at Rivera Orphanage flooded back.
  • Those brief ten days were the most extraordinary days of her life.
  • Without him, she might have died ten years ago.
  • When can I see you again?
  • Ariana rubbed her aching nose and forced herself to stop reminiscing.
  • She opened the drawer, took out a set of medical tools, and began practicing earnestly.
  • This was the most important thing her mother had left her, and she would never let it go to waste.
  • For all these years, Ariana had followed her mother's advice, practicing quietly and never letting outsiders know.
  • *****
  • Aaron entered the CEO's office on the top floor of the Hunt Group. He held a stack of documents, looking serious.
  • "Boss, I've gathered the information on Ariana," Aaron said.
  • At the desk, Simon was signing a contract when he paused at Aaron's words, raising an eyebrow.
  • Aaron quickly presented the documents and added, "Time was tight, so the information isn't complete, but I can confirm that Ariana has never been to Rivera Orphanage."
  • "Have you verified this?" Simon asked.
  • "Yes, it's confirmed. Although Ariana's mother passed away ten years ago, she has been living with her biological father, Jared," Aaron said.
  • In other words, Ariana could not have been at Rivera Orphanage.
