Chapter 11 Don't Jump!

  • Madeline took a leave of absence from school on the third day after framing Noelle and began filming.
  • The film crew had been informed about the incident at school. Even though everyone agreed Noelle was better for the job, they didn't want to hire someone with scandals.
  • This was Madeline's intention.
  • Two days later, Blake arrived in the country for an inspection, and the hospital he chose happened to be in this city.
  • When Noelle informed Nelson about this, he was astonished.
  • He had almost forgotten about the matter. Nelson never imagined that a random online acquaintance could actually bring a world-class expert to the country with just a word.
  • Nelson realized that this online friend was definitely not an ordinary person but didn’t know what to say. Therefore. He kept thanking her repeatedly.
  • Noelle put away her phone. She learned from customer service that Nelson's darkening value had dropped to 60.
  • She exhaled a deep breath of relief.
  • At this time, she noticed a girl walking slowly up the stairs. Her back was against Noelle's, but her posture was rigid.
  • They were in the tallest building on campus. That girl was already on the ninth floor. The rooftop was the only place higher.
  • Why was that girl going to the rooftop?
  • Noelle hesitated for a moment, but then she quickly walked into the classroom. She approached the teacher, who was in the middle of preparing the lab equipment. Noelle spoke urgently and quietly, "Teacher, I saw a girl heading to the rooftop. She seemed a bit off."
  • The teacher was stunned. She frowned and immediately decided, "I'll go check."
  • In such situations, it was better to be safe than sorry.
  • Noelle was still worried. She followed her teacher upstairs. As they reached the rooftop door, they saw the girl already at the edge. The teacher's expression changed instantly.
  • "Hey! What are you doing?"
  • While she called out to the student, the teacher shakily pulled out her phone to call the school's security office, and then she immediately called the cops.
  • The girl turned around slowly. Her face was pale and tear-streaked.
  • The teacher was panicked at this point. She repeatedly said, "Don't do anything impulsive! Talk to me! Don't do anything rash!"
  • As she tried to approach, the girl screamed, causing the teacher to stop in fright.
  • "They're leaving me no way out; I can't live."
  • "I made one mistake, just one; why can't I turn things around?!"
  • The teacher was on the brink of tears. Other students heard the commotion and more footsteps approached from behind; those were the other students who heard the commotion.
  • At that moment, Noelle learned from customer service that the girl had fallen victim to a predatory e-loan scheme. Her debt had skyrocketed from 1,000 to 15,000, and the loan sharks had posted semi-nude photos of her in the school chat group.
  • The girl began to inch closer to the edge. Noelle called out, "I can help you!"
  • The girl paused and said in a teary voice, "You can't help me, 15,000 dollars! I borrowed just 1,000, and now it's 15,000. My parents are unaware of the situation and can't afford it. I can't face them; I've let them down."
  • The girl was terrified by the compounding debt. She was even more terrified when those people posted her photos online. People had been discussing this matter all morning, but Noelle was unaware of it.
  • When the girl climbed onto the railing, Noelle couldn't care about anything else and shouted, "I'll pay it back for you. I have the money. I'll pay it back for you."
  • The girl scoffed coldly and retorted, "You think I don't know you? You're just an imposter that pretend to be rich. You have no money! Stop lying!"
  • Noelle sighed and took out her phone. She offered, "If you don't believe me, give me your account number. I'll transfer the money right now. Just give it a try, it won’t hurt to try. Think about it, if something happens to you, what about your parents? They can't go on without you."
  • She reassured the girl and said, "It's just 15,000 dollars. I really have money—a lot of it. I can transfer it to you right now."
  • More students had arrived on the rooftop, and they were all terrified. Everyone was pleading with the girl, some were even crying.
  • The girl didn't truly want to die; she was just desperate and scared. She saw Noelle had pulled out her phone; the girl hesitated and gave her account number.
  • Noelle didn't hesitate. She transferred the money immediately.
  • The girl's phone buzzed. When she saw the transfer, she widened her eyes and looked at Noelle in disbelief.
  • She genuinely received that money.
  • Noelle put away her phone and carefully approached the girl. She extended her hand, softly coaxing, "It's okay now. Come down! It's dangerous up there!"
  • The teacher quickly walked up and echoed, "Yes, come down quickly."
  • The girl bit her lip. She paused for a moment, looking at Noelle. After a moment, she slowly retracted the leg she'd placed over the railing, but just then, she slipped and fell backward.
  • The old railing, which had been in disrepair for years, creaked loudly before suddenly tilting. The girl screamed and fell straight down.
  • In that instant, Noelle lunged forward and grabbed her ankle. The force dragged Noelle down, slamming her arm into the railing with a bad scrape.
  • Screams erupted behind her. More students rushed to help.
  • The teacher immediately hugged Noelle's legs, fearing she might also fall, while a few boys rushed to the railing to help.
  • Liam was the first to reach out. He grabbed the terrified, screaming girl's ankle. Then he saw Noelle beside him, clutching the girl's other leg, with blood streaming from her scraped arms.
  • She almost dragged over the edge herself; her arms trembled, but she gritted her teeth and held on to the girl's ankle, her knuckles white from the effort.
