Chapter 35
- Being a mother is not an easy matter.
- Johanne began to feel the smoke from the fire invading her nostrils; the alarms were blaring, and a squad of firefighters was arriving at the scene. Although half-asleep and nearly suffocating from the inhaled fumes, she got out of her bed and took her baby in her arms.
- "Help me, please! Help me!" Her cries were desperate and muffled; her little one was also starting to show signs of distress. As best as she could, she reached for the sink faucet in her bathroom, wetted a towel, and placed it over her child's face while trying to exit the room, but everything was engulfed in flames.
