Chapter 5 Clash Of Caliber

  • Chapter Five – Clash of Caliber.
  • Brielle barged into her office, seething and cursing after just lashing out at her employees.
  • Her twin sons followed behind her. Lucian had a disgusted face looking at his brother, Dorian picking his nose.
  • Brielle shook her head, slumping into her chair.
  • “Dorian, you’re being an animal.” Lucian said. “Just like mommy was yelling at people.”
  • His mother shut her eyes. The child spoke a lot like someone she disliked. Master Thales, his grandfather and the man who raised Dominic.
  • Brielle’s mind went to the prank that happened. That man seemed to know her mother and acted out the prank like he was indeed Dominic.
  • She reached for her phone immediately. “Could Dominic really be awake?” she whispered to herself while calling the hospital.
  • “The doctor clearly said he may never awake for the next ten to twenty years but, what if…” the line went through. “Hello, Doctor Phil?”
  • “It’s Matt, my love. How'd I help you, milady?”
  • Brielle internally cringed.
  • The Doctor’s assistant always flirted with her and she didn’t appreciate it. “Is my husband, Dominic Thales, okay? Has he woken?”
  • “Give me a minute to check his logs, but why are you asking, haven’t you moved on from him already?” Matt asked, quite annoyed.
  • Brielle folded her hands. “Just check, please.”
  • A minute later, the doctor sighed. “He hasn’t. His logs hasn’t been updated for more than four years. Honestly he’s as good as dead now.”
  • She wasn’t sure what he meant but she hung up immediately. It has been four years already. Lots of things had changed.
  • If he did awake there was nothing waiting for him and it was impossible for him to start from scratch.
  • She folded her hands. “I’m sorry, Dominic.”
  • Dorian staggered towards her, pointing at a little bruise he had. She bent to check it. “How?”
  • “Bruce hit him at school.” Lucian reported instead. “I hit Bruce back but he didn’t get hurt.”
  • Brielle sighed, then carried Dorian on her body. “Lucian, we’re going to your school. This is the fourth time Bruce is hitting Dorian.”
  • “But it’s the first time he hurt him.” Lucian replied. “And I don’t want to go to school…”
  • “Lucian!!” Brielle shouted. “Follow me now!!”
  • She stomped off as he reluctantly walked towards her. She wouldn’t always let it slide.
  • Her kids were always picked on for being Thales' kids and Allen's grandchildren.
  • She parked her car at the school’s garage and came down, looking around before leaving. Her twins slept off during the ride so she’d be back within ten minutes so they’d be safe.
  • The neighborhood was quiet for a school. She whipped out her phone and dialed a number.
  • “Ruth, I’m here and would like to see you. I don’t have much time.” She hung up immediately.
  • She had to get this done and over with. They were still pending cases on her desk.
  • “Mommy, see!” a kid yelped, pointing at her.
  • The mother of the kid wasn’t concentrating but had her eyes on her laptop. They were seated on a bench. “Who’s that, honey?”
  • “Brielle Allen. The model for Ginny’s noodles. She won best celebrity mom award.” The girl explained.
  • “Oh, is that so?” the mother smirked. “She must have bought that award. Haven’t her kids ran away from her three times already this year?”
  • Brielle’s hands clenched, she wanted to ignore it but her eyes were already shooting daggers at the lady. Her twins running away were mistakes from their nannies and drivers, not hers.
  • Her daughter smiled. “Yeah, she’s wealthy so she can buy anything she wants.”
  • Brielle was stunned. Wasn’t the girl fanning over her now, why did she quickly agree that she didn’t deserve the award?
  • “But she should enjoy ‘best celebrity mom’ as she could never win ‘best celebrity wife’ while being a horrible wife.” the mother added.
  • The girl snickered. “That’s horrible.”
  • “Yes, Suzy, don’t be like her, okay?”
  • “Yes, mommy!” Suzy laughed.
  • That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Brielle wanted to march over and drag the lady’s hair but the lady looked up at her and she froze.
  • There were a dark and dominating pair of eyes glaring deep into her soul, Brielle couldn’t move.
  • “Let’s go, Suzy. I’m too busy to deal with nuisances.” The lady got up.
  • Brielle frowned. “You are aware that I could hear everything you said, aren’t you?”
  • Suzy smirked. “Eavesdropping on people’s conversation isn’t right, Young Mistress Brielle.”
  • Young Mistress? That’s her title in the Thales family. Did they know her from then? She could recognize the lady but she didn’t know how.
  • Ruth, the school’s principal, who Brielle came to see, ran out a door at that moment. She stopped before the mother and daughter and bowed.
  • “Miss Saunders, I’m sorry you waited. Thank you for helping me win my case. I thought it was hopeless till you came.” The principal smiled.
  • Miss Saunders? Brielle’s heart skipped a beat. That was the name of the Thales family butler. They definitely knew her.
  • “Now I know why you’re called ‘Case Closed’. I’m deeply moved, thank you.” Ruth bowed numerous times.
  • “No worries. It’s not like I did it for free, right?” Miss Saunders laughed. “And call me Selene. ‘Miss Saunders’ is a syllable too long.”
  • Ruth smiled. “Yes, Selene. Thank you!”
  • Selene and her daughter left, leaving Brielle shocked to the bones and Ruth, the principal, very grateful.
  • “Case Closed? Like the popular celebrity lawyer ‘Case Closed’?” Brielle felt agitated.
  • That lawyer was feared in the business world. If a company hired her for their case, the case was as good as won. She had never ever lost a case.
  • Brielle frowned. Did she just get insulted by such a personality? And Case Closed was related to Mr. Saunders, a butler?
  • “Miss Brielle? Sorry to keep you waiting…”
  • “You rather entertain a brattish lawyer than me, Ruth?” Brielle scolded immediately.
  • The principal looked down. “She has been waiting here for three hours since school was over. She came to pick her daughter so I decided to steal my chance…”
  • “That bratty daughter goes to this school? I’m pulling my kids! My kids wouldn’t stay in the same school as that girl!” Brielle scoffed.
  • Ruth gasped and began begging. “No, please. It means a lot to me that someone of your caliber is in our school. Don’t take them away…”
  • “Why? The important Miss Case Closed's girl is schooling here. Isn’t that caliber enough?” Brielle yelled.
  • She didn’t mind being petty as long as her point was sent across. The lady’s daughter could feed her kids lies about the Thales family. Also, she was tired of her kids being bullied.
  • “Suzy? Suzan Jones is an adoptive daughter of Miss Selene. I don’t know the details but Miss Selene hides her from public. Plus, Suzy is really a good girl.” Ruth defended.
  • Hearing Ruth defend the girl, Brielle sighed and began walking away. “My words are final. I’m no longer interested in your school.”
  • She hurried to her car and slammed the door. The audacity! Did the lady have any idea how her life tumbled when Dominic fell into a coma?
  • Why was she being judged by her decisions without anyone hearing her side of the story?
  • She drove off angrily.
  • Behind her, Miss Selene, also known as Miss Case Closed, smirked as she saw Brielle’s car dove past. “I really got to her skin, didn’t I?”
  • Her eight year old daughter, Suzy, giggled and nodded. “Yup, you did, mom.”
  • Selene shrugged. “Okay, your uncle Jamie sent a text that we’re expecting a visitor, so let’s go welcome him. I mean, don’t try to scare him.”
  • Suzy smirked. “I’d try my best to be good.”
  • Selene smiled and started her car.
  • It was barely an ten minutes later and she was at her apartment. She helped her daughter get down and they both rushed inside.
  • She sighted Jamie and a lean looking man on the dining table. Her face contorted to a scowl.
  • “Jamie, I said to bring me the Young Master of the Thales family not some roadside beggar.”
  • Dominic’s blood ran cold hearing her voice. It was on the way that Jamie actually introduced who his elder sister was.
  • Case Closed, a feared and reputable lawyer with a viper’s tongue. She was his mate in highschool and colleague in business school. He couldn’t believe such a woman would show him kindness.
  • “That’s mean, don’t you think?” Dominic folded his arms and faced her. “I know I don’t look like myself but…”
  • “Then start looking like yourself, young master. I’m not here to babysit you but assist my brother perform his duties as last generation butler, the last butler of the Saunders family to Thales.”
  • Dominic glanced at Jamie. Was that what the ‘last-generation’ thing was all about? Jamie understand him and nodded. “She’s right.”
  • The young master sighed. “Selene, I appreciate you hosting me but I’d also like you to give me space to take in everything that’ve happened.”
  • Selene smiled, taking steps back. “Well, sure. You do have three months to stay and recover. Maybe some magic would happen.”
  • Jamie chuckled and Dominic rolled his eyes. He understood she meant well but expressing the fact she meant well had always been an issue.
  • “Thank you, Selene. I’d do my best.” He replied, then was ushered to a room by Jamie. He saw a little girl staring at him, mischief in her eyes.
  • He sent a wink to her and her cheeks flushed. The little girl looked away and he shook his head, he still got it in him.
