• The following morning Elsie woke with pains, when Ian slapped her the previous day the rings in his hands had injured her head, causing her to have a migraine.
• The bruise on her cheek also ached, as she stared at the purple mark it left on her cheeks she saw it as a painful reminder of Ian's rage, and a wake up to reality.
• She knew she had to tread carefully, to avoid any further wrath, but the thoughts of living in constant fear didn't sound quite pleasant to her.
