Chapter 2 You Are My Patient
- Raphael lifted his head and tossed her wrist aside. With an icy gaze, he scanned Elena's face and uttered in a threatening tone, “Do you know how much I hate to see your face?”
- Isn't it enough that she appears in my dreams every night? And now, she's appearing in front of me.
- Elena shuddered.
- Staring straight into his cold eyes that were filled with disgust made her throat dry. Even breathing became a difficult task.
- He really hates me.
- Not wanting him to sense how panicked she felt, she feigned calmness and averted her gaze. Coincidentally, she noticed the back of his hand was bleeding. Thus, she turned around to get a roll of surgical tape while finding her voice with difficulty.
- “You're my patient,” she informed.
- She tore off three strips of tape and was about to fix the needle when Raphael's hostile voice, which was laced with disgust, rang out. “Out!”
- Her hand froze in mid-air. Her eyes trembled, but she tried her best to speak calmly while retracting her hand. “I'll get a nurse to do it, then.”
- “I don't want to repeat myself.” His voice sounded colder and a bit forceful.
- The atmosphere in the room was so cold that one could freeze to death.
- Taking another glance at her made Raphael feel disgusted.
- A feeling of agony filled her heart as she gave him a brief answer. She placed aside the stethoscope and medical records, saying, “Okay. Then... Please press the bell if there's anything you need.”
- Alas, the only reply she got was the hum in the cold air.
- Lying on the bed, Raphael pursed his lips so tightly that they formed a straight line. He did not utter a single word, making Elena keep her distance from him.
- On the other hand, Elena had no intention of continuing to make a fool out of herself. After putting away the stethoscope and medical records, she turned around to leave the suffocating room.
- Just then, the emergency room door was opened from the outside, and an attractive voice rang in the air. “Raphael... Are you feeling better?”
- Elena turned toward the source of the voice, immediately noticing Vanessa Collins, who was dressed in a white wedding gown, standing by the door.
- As Vanessa lifted her gown, she spotted Elena by the side. Immediately, the former's smile froze.
- Vanessa was trying out a wedding gown when the employee informed her that Raphael had fainted and was rushed to the hospital. She was so worried that she hurried to the hospital without even changing out of the gown. Never did she expect to meet Elena there.
- Most importantly, Elena was Raphael's doctor.
- Vanessa could not help but tighten her grip around the gown. Regardless, she quickly forced a smile and asked while entering the room, “Elena? W-When did you return?”
- “A week ago,” Elena answered truthfully.
- She was just dispatched by the overseas headquarters to her current hospital a week ago. Never in her wildest dreams did she expect to meet anyone she knew in such circumstances.
- Elena shoved her red, clenched fists into her pocket and made way for Vanessa.
- “Oh, I see.” Vanessa froze. She glanced at the quiet and indifferent Raphael lying on the bed and then at the awkward-looking Elena. Clarity instantly washed over her.
- However, she still pretended as if nothing had happened. Vanessa sat beside the bed and said gently, “Raphael, you've been all right all this while. Why did you suddenly pass out? You gave me the shock of my life.”
- Elena turned sideways, suppressing the pain that was flooding her heart. With a calm voice, she explained, “Mr. Gardner fainted due to acute gastritis. In the future, he has to eat foods that are blander and less oily. Make sure he has his meals on time. One more thing.” She paused. At first, she did not want to say it. Nonetheless, she could not help but add, “Having an irregular diet for a long period is one of the contributing factors to this illness.”
- Raphael narrowed his eyes and glared at Elena, his gaze cold.
- Irregular diet? She seems to remember that clearly, eh?
