Chapter 4 A Relationship Based On Lust, Not Love

  • Charlotte felt irritated, both at her own lack of strength and at the fact that he knew her so well.
  • He was aware of her love for him and was confident that she couldn't refuse him.
  • In order to avoid being completely consumed by him, she turned her head and said, "It's just a normal physiological reaction, and besides, I have a boyfriend."
  • Henry let out a slight snort. "That real estate agent?"
  • "That's his profession. Don't underestimate him."
  • "I don't look down on any profession. I look down on him as a person." Henry took out his phone and played a recording.
  • "Mr. Cooper, as long as you entrust me with the management of the properties in your hands, I will break up with Charlotte."
  • "Weren't you planning to get married?"
  • "Our parents arranged it. I have no choice."
  • "Don't you like her?"
  • "I'm still young. I prioritize my career. Besides, weddings cost money. Moreover, I can tell that you two are more compatible, so I'll congratulate you in advance."
  • Henry put down his phone. "He's your boyfriend? He doesn't treat you like his girlfriend."
  • Charlotte held her breath, but she had no outlet for her frustration.
  • She couldn't blame Max for making this decision. If she saw him intimately involved with another woman, she would also choose to break up.
  • As adults, they had already learned how to use relationships to their advantage. Max used the breakup to negotiate with Henry, knowing that he still wanted to be with her.
  • "Your desire to get married has gone down the drain." Henry lightly embraced her waist and nibbled on her earlobe. "Isn't it better to enjoy the moment?"
  • His breathing became rapid, and his hand slipped into her clothes as he kissed her collarbone.
  • Charlotte's mind was unusually clear. She tilted her neck and said, "I don't want to play with you anymore."
  • The kiss on her chest came to a halt.
  • Henry looked up and saw that her eyes were like a stagnant pool devoid of any interest.
  • "Are you serious?" His voice took on a husky tone of desire.
  • "Yes." Charlotte tugged at the clothes he had pulled open and said calmly, "This is ultimately not the way."
  • Henry squinted his eyes. "Do you want to end things with me completely?"
  • "Yes," she said firmly and resolutely as her heart broke into pieces. Deep down, she knew that he was simply not tired of playing with her yet.
  • Their relationship was purely physical, devoid of any emotional connection.
  • Henry left in anger and slammed the door with a resounding noise.
  • Charlotte straightened her clothes and wiped her face. She had to make a tough decision; otherwise, she would waste her whole life on him.
  • ...
  • After finishing two morning classes, Charlotte returned to the office. The subject teacher informed her that there seemed to be a problematic teenager who had transferred to her class.
  • Junior high school students were already going through their rebellious phase, and the class Charlotte taught was the most difficult to manage in the whole school. She had received a challenging task right at the beginning of her teaching career, and she had shed tears for those students many times.
  • Perhaps it was because she appeared pitiful when she cried, coupled with her sincerity towards every student and her ability to joke around and connect with them, that she had become friends with these kids. They saw her as an older sister and were willing to listen to her.
  • And now, another one was being added, which meant that there would be another period of unrest.
  • Just as she took a sip of water, the principal called Charlotte.
  • After hanging up the phone, the subject teacher reminded her, "I heard that his family conditions are very good, but he is difficult to manage. His uncle came to handle the procedures for him, and he doesn't seem like an easy person to deal with. Even the principal bows to him."
  • Charlotte furrowed her brow and walked towards the principal's office as she knocked on the door.
  • "Come in."
  • Charlotte pushed open the door and entered. "Principal, did you call for me?"
  • "Miss Charlotte, allow me to introduce you. This is Mr. Cooper," the principal said with a kind smile, his face radiating affection.
  • Charlotte followed his gaze and looked over. Henry sat there with a proud posture and a cold gaze.
  • Seeing him was a bit unexpected, but she maintained her composure.
  • It had been almost half a month since he last visited her house, and she thought she would never see him again.
  • Sitting next to him was a boy who bore a striking resemblance to him, with a hint of arrogance in his eyes and brows. He resembled Henry, someone aloof.
  • "This is Mr. Cooper's nephew, Simon Perry," the principal said. "Simon has been studying abroad until this semester. From now on, he will be in Class 1."
  • Charlotte had no say in the matter, as the person had already been brought here. This was just to inform her.
  • She didn't expect Henry to have a nephew at his age.
  • She didn't want any further interactions with Henry, but if the child was in her class, she might have to meet him as a parent.
  • What a headache.
  • "Miss Charlotte, I am Simon's guardian in the country. If there is anything related to him in the future, please contact me directly," Henry said in a cold and distant tone, as if they were meeting for the first time.
  • She also treated him as a stranger and responded with a grunt.
  • Upon seeing this, the principal quickly said, "Then, please leave your contact information. If there is anything, we can inform you immediately."
  • Charlotte wanted to pretend, but then she heard Henry say, "Miss Charlotte, you didn't delete my phone number, did you?"
  • His gaze carried a hint of aggression with ill intentions.
  • The principal stared blankly at Charlotte.
  • Simon also glanced at Charlotte a couple of times.
  • The former was just curious about how Charlotte and Henry knew each other, while the young boy was surprised that his uncle's phone number was given to a woman other than family members.
  • ...
  • Charlotte walked out of the principal's office with Simon, feeling a bit upset.
  • "What's your relationship with my uncle?" Simon asked, perceptive as ever.
  • "There's no relationship," she replied.
  • Simon looked as if he saw through her. "You're so eager to deny it, which means your relationship with him is not shallow."
  • Charlotte frowned, and she was about to explain a few more words, but Simon walked ahead with his backpack, swaggering. "If you want to be my aunt, I advise you to give up. My uncle is a confirmed bachelor."
  • She felt a pang in her chest. Was this kid here to taunt her?
  • "I have a boyfriend." Charlotte didn't want to embarrass herself by lying.
  • He turned around and glanced at her before suddenly smiling, saying, "I was overthinking. You're not his type at all."
  • Charlotte calmly walked past him. "What do you know, you little brat?"
  • "I know very well. My uncle likes girls who are as pure and innocent as white flowers," Simon commented.
  • Charlotte's heart trembled, and she felt a slight sting. The first time she met Henry, he said she looked excessively enchanting, like a fairy. It was hard to imagine her as a teacher.
  • He was discriminating against her.
  • He questioned whether she could be a good teacher, and now he even sent his nephew to her class. Wasn't he afraid she couldn't handle it?
  • Charlotte settled Simon and returned to her office.
  • "Miss Charlotte." Simon stood at the door of the office, his posture lazy, and for the first time, his cool lips called her by that name.
  • Charlotte thought he had left and put on an air of superiority. "Is there something you need, sir?"
  • Henry was serious. "Simon has a bad personality and a temper, so please bear with him."
  • "They say the nephew resembles the uncle." When she saw his expression change slightly, Charlotte continued, "He is now my student, and I will educate him well. Of course, as a parent, you should also set a good example for your child. Teachers only play a supporting role. Leading by example is the most important."
  • Henry's deep peach blossom eyes narrowed slightly. "I'm just reminding you not to call me for no reason. After all, some teachers deliberately pick on students to get closer to parents."
  • Charlotte felt a tightness in her chest, infuriated by him. She took out her phone in front of Henry and found his number, then she ruthlessly blocked and deleted it.
