Chapter 26 No Interference Allowed Between Them

• The heavy and labored breathing on the other end of the phone continued, causing Charlotte's hands to tremble uncontrollably. She couldn't fall asleep at all. Her heart was in turmoil, and she wanted to scream out loud. Finally, she calmly pressed the recording function until the other end hung up.
• She sat on the bed, her head hung low as she struggled to breathe, and it was a long time before she regained her composure. Sleep was out of the question, of course. As she stared at the time, every minute and second felt unbearably long.
• Finally, when dawn arrived, she heard someone knocking on the door. Her mind was buzzing, and she felt completely drained when her phone rang again.
