Chapter 6 Visits

  • ~Landon~
  • It did my heart good watching Tia and Kian come into our office. I’m beyond grateful that she’s up and about. I know that Adela’s dying was taking a toll on her, and I was getting worried. I don’t know what Lynn said to her, but I owe her a big thank you.
  • Tia kisses me on the cheek, and I take Kian from her. She walks to Lincoln’s desk and sits on his lap. Kian sits on my lap and starts to reach for the items on my desk. I move the dangerous items out of the way, leaving some loose paper for him to play with.
  • Lynn walks into the office and plops on the couch. Surprisingly, she’s alone, but that doesn’t last long as her mates walk in minutes later and sit next to her. I would prefer that my dad was going to be in this meeting, but I know he’s helping a grieving Doc, and I don’t want to disturb them.
  • “So you wanted us to meet. What about?” Lincoln’s voice is slightly muffled since his face is buried in our mate’s neck. I find it funny, but reserve my chuckle for later.
  • “I spoke to my brother, and he had something interesting to tell me,” Lynn tells us about her conversation with Mark, and I swear my blood runs cold. I find it a bit coincidental that they find one of their warrior’s bodies at their border with the blood drained. That sounds like a vampire through and through. One has to wonder what a vampire would be doing in that territory. Is it by chance or by design?
  • “So what’s the plan? What do we know for sure?”
  • “Lynn and I were thinking that they should go to Mark’s pack and investigate further. We will stay here and keep an eye on things. We’ve already contacted our allied packs to be on alert, so there really is nothing else to do. I hate the waiting game, but what other choice do we have?” I nod in agreement—Tia’s right. As horrible as waiting is, there is no other choice.
  • “I’ll call him right now and let him know we are coming out.” Lynn takes her phone out and dials Mark’s number, placing the call on speakerphone. It doesn’t take long for a sleepy-sounding Mark to answer the phone.
  • “What, Lynn?! Speaking to you once a day is enough.”
  • “Whatever, ass. I was just calling to tell you that my mates and I will be heading out there. We want to see the body and anything else related to it.”
  • “Ok. I will let Jenna know and make sure we have rooms for you.”
  • “Rooms? I’m just coming out with my mates, no one else.”
  • “Yeah, and my little sister is not going to shack up with two men under my roof.” Lynn huffs, and I laugh. I have no other siblings besides my brother, but I’d imagine I’d be the same way if I had a little sister.
  • “Mark, stop. Leave your sister alone. Hey, Lynn. I will make sure we have A room set up for you and your mates. I’m excited to meet them.” Jenna sounds truly happy. I’m glad she was able to find her happiness in Mark.
  • “Thank you, my most amazing sister-in-mate. We will leave here within the hour.” Lynn hangs up and leaves the office with her mates. I have to admit that I’m worried about what’s to come for us, but I have to have faith that the Moon Goddess will keep us safe.
  • ~Sonya~
  • I’ve been in this cell for a while, and it sucks. I stopped counting the days a while ago when it was clear that I would never make it out of here. My father has been coming to see me, but I don’t have much to say to him either. He didn’t have my back when I needed him to, and I’m still upset about that.
  • Can we talk about that shit pack and that bitch Beta for a minute? I can’t fucking believe that I’m here because of that pack and that bitch. Devonte was mine; he said I was his chosen mate. She comes along, shaking her ass, then I end up in the royal cells. If I could snap my fingers and make them pay, I would have done so already. “VISITOR!”
  • Footsteps are getting louder, and they come closer to my cell. I’m sure it’s my father because he’s the only one who has come to visit me since I’ve been here. We will do the usual: sit across from each other and say nothing. Well, I will say nothing, and he will try to get me to speak to him. It’s still too fresh for all that.
  • My cell door slides open, and I fight the smile that tries to grace my face. It’s my favorite jailer, and I’m happy about that. I know I look like shit, but that hasn’t stopped him from looking. I slowly turn around and place my hands behind my back. I have to get silver-laced cuffs on to be escorted out of my cell. It’s not enough that they put wolfsbane in the food, but whatever, right?
  • His hands gently touch my wrists as he places the cuff on me. I let a soft moan escape my lips, and I catch his sharp intake of breath. I love messing with him, and if I ever get the opportunity, I swear I will make good on these silent promises.
  • He gently takes my arm and leads me out of my cell. We walk down the hall and stop in front of an interrogation room. I wait while he opens the door and stands to the side, so I can walk in. I was right; my father sits at the table with doe-ass eyes. It’s really disgusting, but what can I do? One wrist is uncuffed, and I’m led to the table. The cuff is attached to a ring on the tabletop, and I sit across from my father.
  • His eyes are pleading with me to acknowledge him, but I just don’t have it in me right now. He abandoned me when I needed him most. If he had remembered that I was his daughter instead of kissing that bitch’s ass, I probably wouldn’t be in here right now. “Hello, my daughter. How are they treating you in here?”
