Chapter 5 In the Deluxe Room

  • Beatrice requested leave from Mike after Edward texted her back. Then, she left work early to prepare for the night ahead.
  • This was crucial for Mike and her future. Mike had breached the bank protocol by checking Edward's personal details from the Bauhinia Card.
  • Beatrice left the bank worriedly and she bumped into Randy who had just got out of his car.
  • But, Randy didn't notice anything wrong with her. "Beatrice, you're getting off work early?"
  • "Randy?"
  • Beatrice was surprised to see him here and she remembered that she had a date with him tonight. "Yeah, I'm not feeling well, so I left early after getting permission from the manager," she lied.
  • "Great! Since it's still early, let's find a place and play some games. I'm playing Armour nowadays and I can do a pentakill using him!" Randy said excitedly.
  • Beatrice frowned.
  • She felt a surge of anger looking at Randy. What the hell? I'm doomed and you're showing off your gaming skills?
  • She suppressed her anger and said, "I'm busy tonight, Randy. We'll date another time."
  • Randy was stunned. "But, we've made plans. I'll drop you home after dinner and we'll play games tonight!"
  • Beatrice knew that Randy was useless, but he was from the city.
  • She had to rely on him to buy a house in the city. She was clear that Mike wouldn't leave his family for her.
  • Randy was only her best backup plan for now. She would have left him if there was someone better.
  • She took a deep breath and pinched Randy's cheeks softly. "Darling, I really have something to do tonight. See, I'm still feeling unwell and had to leave work early. I had to catch up with my work tonight. Let's date another day."
  • "Okay." Randy felt dejected.
  • He then offered to drive her home, but she refused, so he hailed a taxi for her.
  • Mike happened to witness the scene and he chuckled. "What a fool!"
  • After getting on the taxi, Beatrice bit her lip tightly and trembled as tears rolled down her face.
  • She frustratedly ruffled her hair and looked out of the window.
  • She regretted acting on impulse earlier.
  • She didn't mind being pursued by a tycoon or even seducing them because that was what she wanted, or else, she wouldn't be together with Mike.
  • But, everything changed now.
  • She felt humiliated when she thought of what was going to happen later.
  • She couldn't arrogantly flaunt her beauty but had to be submissive to get what she wanted.
  • Edward rented a small two-bedroom apartment near Orilorn Hospital. It was convenient for him to care for Clara during her recovery period after discharge.
  • Upon signing the lease, he immediately arranged for a moving company to move his belongings from his old house.
  • He was upset when the old house was in a mess.
  • Olivia had moved her belongings. Edward and Clara's belongings were scattered across the floor.
  • Their wedding photos were destroyed, leaving only him alone in the pictures
  • The only photo of him and Clara had fallen to the ground, the frame shattered into pieces, with clear footprints on top.
  • Edward picked up the photo and gritted his teeth. "Do you hate us that much?"
  • He carefully placed the photo in his pocket and started to move his belongings.
  • It was already 6 PM after reorganizing everything at his new place. Beatrice texted him.
  • He stretched lazily and went to the hotel.
  • Oston Hotel was a five-star hotel with a city view on the top-floor rooms.
  • Beatrice, clad in a bathrobe, was lazily lounging on the sofa in front of the window, her hair still wet.
  • She was already tipsy from the wine. Her face was red as she gazed out at the skyline with teary eyes.
  • She was from the countryside and aspired to become a city resident. She would do anything to climb the social ladder.
  • Working at the bank elevated her level and she became egoistic.
  • She dated Randy not because of love, but because he could give her things she wanted.
  • For their marriage, he would give her 75 thousand dollars, a house, and a car that worth 45 thousand. These gifts were enough for her to show off for a while.
  • Although 75 thousand wasn't much, it was enough for her to buy a house before marriage as her pre-marital property. She wouldn't be left with nothing if she divorced Randy after meeting someone better in the future.
  • Unfortunately, her impulsive actions in the afternoon made her lose her pride.
  • She would have taken a different approach if she could turn back time.
  • Knock knock!
  • "The door isn't locked," Beatrice wiped away her tears and said coquettishly.
  • Edward entered the room with a straight face and saw Beatrice lying on the sofa. He was looking down upon her deep down.
  • The woman that the Thomas family liked so much, that they were willing to sacrifice Clara, was in front of Edward now.
  • He wondered about their reaction if they were to discover this.
  • "Mr. Raine ... "
  • Beatrice got up and poured a glass of wine. Then she handed it to Edward. "Mr. Raine, I'm truly sorry about this afternoon," she said alluringly.
  • Edward calmly accepted the glass of wine. "Do you know that checking a customer's personal information is a serious offense?"
  • Beatrice was caught off guard by Edward's response.
  • She smiled playfully. "I'm just doing this so that I can make it up to you, Mr. Raine."
  • "What would you like to do?"
  • Edward smiled and finished the wine in one gulp.
  • Before he could set down the glass, Beatrice lunged towards him.
  • Clank!
  • The wine glass shattered on the ground.
  • Under the light, the shards emitted a glow.
