Chapter 2 Don't Kill Me
- "Mr. Ziegler, I appreciate your offer, but I believe I can manage this situation myself. I think it would be best if you went home," Whitney stated coldly, her voice slicing through the tension in the room.
- Before Kennedy could respond, Henry exploded with indignation.
- "Whitney, are you out of your mind? Mr. Ziegler is here to assist us! You can't just dismiss him like that!"
- "This is my problem, Dad! Please stop making decisions on my behalf!" Whitney retorted firmly, standing her ground.
- "You're acting as if you've suddenly gained wings and can ignore my words! Sit down next to Mr. Ziegler right now!" Henry shouted, his expression one of frustration.
- He quickly turned to Kennedy, forcing a strained smile. "Mr. Ziegler, I truly apologize for my daughter's behavior. She can be quite blunt; I'll have a word with her later ... "
- "It's fine, really. I should have approached this differently. I'll invite Whitney out for dinner at that renowned steakhouse in Lyndale soon," Kennedy replied smoothly, maintaining his polite facade, though his thoughts were laced with ulterior motives.
- He envisioned a scenario where, during the dinner, he could get Whitney intoxicated and take advantage of the moment.
- Even if Whitney is a married woman, she's still attractive. Playing with her a few times wouldn't be a waste.
- At that moment, Charles, who had been entirely overlooked, finally found his voice. "Mr. Ziegler, I'm sorry, but it seems my wife isn't particularly receptive to your visit. I think it's best if you leave."
- "Oh, so this is the worthless son-in-law of the Chadwicks! I believe it's you who is unwelcome here!" Kennedy scoffed, directing a disdainful look at Charles, entirely dismissing him.
- "Charles, how dare you talk to Mr. Ziegler like that! Go prepare dinner immediately!" Henry ordered, treating Charles as if he were merely a servant in their household.
- "I think you should leave Whitney alone. A failure like you can't offer her a happy life!" Kennedy jeered, casually placing a hand on Whitney's shoulder as he continued to taunt her.
- In an instant, Whitney forcefully shrugged off Kennedy's hand, stepping in front of Charles with a frosty glare. "My husband is not a failure, and I won't allow you to speak about him in that way! And as for me, I don't accept handouts. Mr. Ziegler, I kindly ask you to leave my home before I lose my patience."
- As her words lingered in the air, Henry, Kennedy, and even Charles looked on in disbelief, shocked by Whitney's fierce defense of Charles.
- "Honey, you ... " Charles stammered, overwhelmed by emotion and left momentarily speechless.
- When Charles and Whitney married, they had agreed to a contract stating they would only pretend to be a couple. However, Charles had always treated Whitney with genuine care over the years. In her eyes, the sincere Charles was worth far more than the flashy Kennedy.
- Meanwhile, Kennedy's expression darkened, anger flickering in his eyes. "Whitney, are you really going to do this? Defending that loser? I've genuinely tried to help you, and you still refuse me?"
- "Charles, show him the door!"
- With a flick of her hair, Whitney turned and headed toward the kitchen, her senses awakened by the enticing aroma of chicken soup, her mouth watering in anticipation.
- The reason Whitney hadn't been enjoying chicken soup was not that she had grown tired of it; instead, its unique flavor had become increasingly irresistible, leaving her craving it more.
- However, after overindulging, she had recently felt an unusual warmth in her body after eating Charles's soup, which left her feeling uneasy.
- "Got it, Honey!"
- Charles smiled and approached Kennedy, giving him a gentle pat on the shoulder. "Mr. Ziegler, it's time for you to go."
- "Don't you dare touch me!" Kennedy shouted, his calm facade shattering as he swung a fist at Charles.
- Having trained in combat, he was used to easily dealing with ordinary people and figured that confronting someone like Charles would be a piece of cake.
- However, to his astonishment, Charles vanished like a shadow, and before Kennedy realized what was happening, he found his wrist gripped tightly, yanked behind his back!
- "Ah!"
- Kennedy cried out in pain, his eyes blazing with fury as he grabbed an ashtray from the TV stand and hurled it at Charles's head!
- Taken aback by Kennedy's violent reaction, Charles felt his anger rise to the surface.
- He locked eyes with Kennedy, his gaze chilling and intense, as if emanating from the very depths of darkness.
- "If you want to live, let go of that!"
- Feeling the icy aura radiating from Charles, Kennedy trembled uncontrollably.
- This guy has definitely killed someone before, and not just one person; he is undoubtedly dangerous! Who is he?
- The overwhelming sense of murderous intent emanating from Charles made Kennedy genuinely believe he was in grave danger, and he blurted out in desperation.
- "L-leave me alone, Mr. Draco! Don't kill me! I swear I won't do this again! Just spare me!"
- Desperate to save his life, Kennedy pleaded, his former arrogance completely evaporated.
- "Tr*sh."
- Charles shot back, and when he noticed that Kennedy had actually wet himself in fear, the unpleasant odor filled the room.
