Chapter 14 The Announcement

  • Upon hearing the news, Charles couldn't help but furrow his brow in disbelief. Are these people really so full of themselves? Without asking a single question, they already assumed that a contract with Dracorise Group is unattainable for us.
  • And how could Old Mrs. Chadwick even dare to bring up that bet? Didn't she realize that soon, Melissa would be required to uphold her end of the deal and grovel at our feet in front of the entire family?
  • Whitney had just signed the contract and was feeling elated, but as she entered the headquarters and overheard the mocking comments from others, her enthusiasm began to wane. Now, Samantha was even demanding that she divorce Charles!
  • This left her heartbroken. "I'm sorry, but I refuse to divorce Charles. I'm genuinely happy with my life right now, and I've secured a partnership with Dracorise Group! Their new chairman has high hopes for me."
  • "What? You must be joking!
  • "Someone like you? There's no way you could possibly land a partnership with Dracorise Group!"
  • The Chadwicks dismissed Whitney outright, laughing at her claim.
  • Melissa sneered, "Ha! The new chairman of Dracorise Group is so enigmatic that no one even knows what they look like or their name. There's no chance he'd be interested in you, Whitney. Do you have any idea how pathetic you are?"
  • Faced with their scorn and disbelief, Whitney, in a surge of anger, yanked the contract from her bag and slammed it onto the table.
  • "The proof is right here! This is the signed contract with Dracorise Group. Please, take a look, Grandma!"
  • The sound of the contract hitting the table resonated like a thunderclap, causing gasps to ripple through the Chadwicks.
  • "The contract is signed? This can't be real!"
  • Melissa was the first to voice her skepticism.
  • "Let me see that!" Samantha, her emotions clearly heightened, shouted in surprise. But when someone finally brought the contract to her and she began to read the terms, her expression darkened. "Well, well, Whitney, how dare you attempt to deceive me with a forged contract!"
  • "What? A fake contract? I knew it! How could she possibly secure a partnership with Dracorise Group?"
  • Hearing Samantha claim that Whitney's contract was fraudulent, Melissa felt a wave of relief wash over her. If Whitney had indeed won that wager, her own plans would be ruined.
  • "This contract is completely genuine!" Whitney protested, baffled by Samantha's accusations.
  • Samantha coldly shot back, "Are you still trying to get out of this? The contract specifies that the Chadwicks will hold 20 percent of the partnership with Dracorise Group, which is nearly 600 million dollars! That's outrageous! Even the Zieglers, who are leaders in the medical community in Lyndale, wouldn't take on that much!"
  • "Six hundred million, Whitney? How dare you present such a fraudulent document! Why don't you just say that Dracorise Group gifted you this hospital?"
  • Melissa taunted, leaning closer to Samantha and whispering, "Grandma, she's making a fool out of you. This is incredibly disrespectful. You need to teach her a lesson!"
  • Samantha was furious. Whitney's behavior was utterly ridiculous. If news of this alleged forged contract got out, and Dracorise Group took offense, it could ruin everything for the Chadwicks.
  • The partnership with Dracorise Group—forget about 600 million; even getting close to them was a miracle. Old Mrs. Chadwick might even consider paying just to win back their favor.
  • "It seems I have no choice but to kick Whitney and her family out for good. How naive of me to think I could find any value in them. Lord, grant me mercy; may Mother Mary forgive me. I've been forced into this situation!"
  • Just as Samantha was coming to this conclusion, a younger Chadwick burst through the door, panic evident on their face. "Oh, my God! Dracorise Group's official website just announced a partnership with the Chadwicks, and they're giving us 20 percent of the project ... Someone pinch me. I must be dreaming!"
  • Everyone in the room fell silent once more.
  • After a moment of stunned disbelief, they all hurried back to their desks, logging onto their computers to verify the news on the Dracorise Group's website.
  • Sure enough, at the top of the homepage, an announcement was displayed.
  • "Dracorise Group has confirmed its first partner for the three billion Angel in White Project. Vice chairperson, Sherly, has signed a partnership agreement with Whitney, representing Lyndale's Chadwicks, granting the Chadwicks a twenty percent share in the project."
  • As they read the announcement, gasps of disbelief echoed around the room.
  • Whitney had truly secured the partnership, and it was indeed for 20 percent of the project!
  • Dracorise Group made the announcement so quickly?
  • This is entirely unprecedented!
  • Melissa felt as if the ground had been yanked out from under her. This is the end; everything has fallen apart.
  • The fact that they had previously been rejected by Dracorise Group had already left Samantha feeling frustrated, but thankfully, she had cleverly shifted the blame onto Norman.
  • She had assured Samantha that as soon as she noticed the Simmons were declining, she would divorce Norman, which had preserved her position within the Chadwicks.
