Chapter 8 Death

  • Dinner ended with Sumire barely able to finish her food due to the heavy pressure around her. Small chatters broke the place. Even though the people at the table were ignoring her, she could feel their questioning eyes darted on her.
  • The young boy is silent in his seat and Bjorn is having a conversation with his mother, Lady Qarinah. Sumire feels she's out of place but this is way better than bombarding her with incessant questions by these unfamiliar people. That's more exhausting.
  • "Mort, can I head to my room first?"
  • Slightly leaned, Sumire unbelievably excuses herself. Instead of bidding byes to the adults, she decided to say goodbye to the boy.
  • "I'll let Klauss accompany you to your room."
  • His eyes bore into hers, Mort replied however, Sumire declined quickly. She flashed a small smile at him revealing her dimple on the left cheek.
  • "No need. I still remember where the room reserved for me is."
  • Sumire held his gaze with eyes to reassure him. Mort stared at her for a long moment, locking her eyes with his before nodding.
  • "Good night."
  • She added in a gentle tone. A soft lips landed on Mort's forehead which stopped him for a second from breathing. He could feel his dead heart skipped a beat. Sumire kissed him on the temple before ruffling his hair and leaving the place.
  • As she walked off, more faint chatter filled the room.
  • Sumire decided to wander the place first while digesting what she ate. She then headed to the 4th floor of the manor.
  • She sauntered the long hallway unaware where the path leads her. She didn't care where it would take her as long as she didn't run into anyone.
  • The never-ending hallway had a black tile floor that shined in front of her. She smiled while walking past the thousands of closed wooden doors that led way to newly designed rooms. She continued down the hallway, gliding her hand across the white cement walls with ancient paintings that she could find hard to decipher.
  • Sumire peered all the way to the end of the narrow hallway. She could barely see the double doors ahead.
  • The hallway was a bit dark and the light flickered through the place. She couldn't tell if it was on purpose. Sumire now cautiously felt her way further into the seemingly endless hallway. She didn't feel anything strange as she just kept walking.
  • Until she realized that two men were tailing her from behind. Even though she hadn't seen their appearance yet, Sumire knew it was the twins she met on the stairs.
  • Her heart pounded, and her hand began to feel clammy against her bouncing knee. She didn't know what to do. A nervous feeling rose in her chest as they were getting close to her. As the twin approach her place, she can feel their ill intentions towards her.
  • Her pace quickened until she found herself sprinting off the hallway. Sumire turned around to see the twins now chasing after her like prey with creepy evil smiles on their faces but vanished into the darkness before her eyes could blink.
  • "Haaaa....where are they?"
  • Sumire uttered breathlessly. She was so nervous she began hyperventilating and the extra oxygen made her dizzy.
  • She stopped running when she couldn't see them, panting and sweating, as she sat on the floor while leaning her back at the closed door. She could feel herself about to throw up all the food she digested.
  • A creak broke the place and hands loomed large behind her. Eyes widened in surprise, her screams left in the air when a strong arm suddenly pulled her inside the room. And before Sumire could struggle to free herself, she lost consciousness.
  • The twins had been staring at the lady for almost half an hour. They had injected her with sleeping pills that had an effect of almost twenty-four hours.
  • The pair didn't tie Sumire up, especially since she was just a lowly person, and she couldn't escape from their grasp. Now that they have Sumire in their hands they're unsure what to do. Are they going to kill her or let her live?
  • "What Mort would do if he knew what we did to his mate?"
  • Hajin asked his twin brother, he had icy white hair. Jihan, on the other hand, had raven black hair cast a long stare at him.
  • "Of course, he would gone mad."
  • Jihan replied, stating the obvious thing that would happen made Hajin frown.
  • "Is this weak mortal more important to him? We all know that from the beginning it was forbidden for them to be fated mates. One of them must die. And it must be this mortal."
  • Hajin said, eyeing the lady in contempt who was unmoved and unconscious on the floor. His twin slowly nodded.
  • "Mort is smart. He's next in line for the throne so he knows our plan to kill her now is the right one."
  • Hajin added, justified their plan. They can all agree on one thing: she must die before the dawn breaks.
  • "Are we going to do this for Mort?"
  • Jihan asked as Hajin froze in his seat.
  • "You know that truth. If he doesn't have a mate and a successor, he can't sit on the throne. And that's what all vampires want. We're tired of just staying hidden in the dark and feeding on the animals' blood..."
  • Hajin stood up from the chair and paced back and forth in the place.
  • "If we're going to feed on humans we had to do it secretly to avoid the King and his son's attention, for DEATH is the punishment for those who get caught. We should be the ones living freely in this world, not the humans who are supposed to be our food. Why didn't our father become the Vampire King? Why must not be him?"
  • Eyes narrowed to slits, said Hajin who sets Sumire on invisible flames through his wildfire gaze. He was furious.
  • "I don't understand, father was born first before Uncle Bjorn, however, Mort's dad became the Vampire King. The Vampire Codex stated that the first blood should be the one reigning..."
  • Hajin continued and Jihan was listening quietly in the place. He feels the same way about his twin.
  • "And now it is certain that Mort would inherit the throne. Especially since he found his fated mate earlier than we expected."
  • Jihan said, interrupting his twin brother.
  • "We had tried to find her but who would have thought that his mate was a mortal? No one could even talk about this situation as fear prevailed among them. So, we should do what must be done."
  • Hajin said and eyed back to the lady.
  • "Then let's kill her."
  • Jihan said in a finality tone. The twins stride forward together, one of them holding a pointed sharp blade.
  • A dagger was about to strike Sumire's chest when an unknown, powerful force blew the place. Making all the things inside in disarray.
  • "What is happening...Ji..han..."
  • Exchange glances, Hajin said and looked at his twin brother to see his slitted head slowly fall off his neck. Jihan witnessed how Hajins' head fell on the floor making the place bloody and in gruesome sight.
  • "Hajin..."
  • Their heads were cut off from their torso and faced one another on the floor stunned written on their paled visage.
  • The twins saw a pair of feet standing in front of them and elongated sharp nails filled with blood dripping next to them. Hajin and Jihan glanced up to see the young Mort throw them a cold, hard stare whose eyes glow in red and whose pupils were vertical slits like a cat's concealed with murderous intent.
  • "Bring them to me."
  • Eyes devoid of emotions, Mort coldly ordered Klauss, and that the butler immediately obeyed.
  • Klauss picked up the decapitated twins' heads whose eyes were dilated in horror and gave them to his young master. Both are still alive even though their heads have been severely cut off.
  • There was a trace of horror on Hajin and Jihan's faces when they saw how their headless bodies fell to the cold marble floor. Words left unspoken, Mort's overwhelming dark and foreboding aura engulfs the entire place. They felt that Death himself had held their heads.
  • The twins peered at the small crowd that had gathered to see their father looking at them and couldn't do anything about what Mort had done. And with that moment, their death is inevitable. Repentance is visibly painted on their faces.
  • "You take care of Sumire."
  • Mort then left the room holding his twin cousin's heads. All the vampires who sensed what happened inside the room were now standing on the outside. Gasping filled the air every time Mort took a step forward and passed them. For a young kid, Mort holds such a tremendous power.
  • "Why did they do that?"
  • "They had dared to lay a hand on Mort's mate on the very first day..."
  • "Have they lost their minds?"
  • "Idiots."
  • A series of whispers broke the silence. Outside, the night clouds huddle together ominously, their dark curves mocking the landscape and the violent wind hurtles around. They feel the young master's anger in the air as his eyes are bloody red like the moon hanging on the seething starless sky.
  • A tempest of caterwauling creatures descended through the carrion-black sky. A horde of vultures gathered outside to meet its master.
  • Mort saunters the place as his whole body emanates darkness around darker than vantablack, heavy and oppressive as if his shadow merged with his body.
  • "This is hell."
