• When Sean had been courting Abigail, he put much thought into getting his efforts reciprocated. However, he had to remind himself that if Abigail hadn't explicitly asked for his kindness, why should she feel obligated to give him what he wanted?
• Similarly, Kevin showed kindness to Irene on his own accord. Irene never asked for this treatment, so why should she feel compelled to reciprocate his feelings?
• If everyone assumed that being kind to someone made them entitled to establish a relationship of some sort, wasn’t that a violation of the other person's autonomy?
