Chapter 7 Who's the Father of the Children?

  • "I've been raising the children alone for five years," Clara admitted.
  • "What, five years? You got pregnant back in the country, and before your family went down, it couldn't be Ryan’s!" Hazel paused, considering the possibility, but Ella clearly had mixed heritage.
  • "Clara, who is the father of the children?" Hazel asked bluntly.
  • Ethan suddenly pushed open the door and walked towards Hazel. "We don't need a father. Ella and I only need Mommy," he declared.
  • His words tugged at Hazel's heartstrings, a child of only five speaking such words.
  • "Ethan, go outside. Mommy is having a conversation." Clara gently nudged Ethan towards the door.
  • Before Ethan left, he gave Hazel a stern look. "Don't bully my mommy," he warned.
  • Hazel immediately nodded, and only then did Ethan leave with a peace of mind.
  • "Your son has quite the presence. I'm terrified of him," she exhaled in relief, patting her chest as if to calm herself.
  • Clara arrogantly raised her chin. "You're the CEO's secretary; why do you get scared so easily? Ethan just said a couple of words," she remarked.
  • Clara mentioning the CEO reminded Hazel. She continued, "You've been working as a business planner in Efril for years, and it just so happens our company is hiring. With your qualifications, there's no issue for you to get in."
  • "Give me the company name, address, and email." Clara nodded, finding the suggestion appealing.
  • "Wood Corporation is a huge company; its assets far outweigh the Curtis Group, a world away. Let's get it done now. Send your resume to my email, and I'll direct it to the HR department tomorrow," Hazel suggested.
  • Hazel's eyes lit up brightly. Clara would undoubtedly land a job at the Wood Corporation. Her CEO was formidable, his tactics ruthless, and his looks striking—many women were vying for his favour.
  • Clara's hand, which was moving the mouse, paused. Wood Corporation ... Leon Wood, he ...
  • "Clara, why are you spacing out?" Hazel quickly grabbed the mouse and sent the resume from Clara’s email. "Done! I'll print it at the company and deliver it straight to HR."
  • Hazel grinned slyly. Her eyes sparkled again. She said, "Our CEO reputation has skyrocketed in recent years; his insight is sharp and decisively ruthless—every media company is scrambling to cover him! Oh, you'll see when you go there tomorrow."
  • Clara didn’t respond, her thoughts swirling. Unfortunately, Leon was her arch-nemesis.
  • Still, if she wanted to get to the bottom of her family's bankruptcy, she needed to get into a bigger corporation than the Curtis Group. The Wood Corporation was undoubtedly the best choice.
  • "Hazel, I'll send you a new resume," Clara said, making a few edits to it.
  • "Huh? Clara, why are you changing your name?" Hazel questioned.
  • She had renamed it Kara Robson.
  • "Stop asking me questions; just do as I say," Clara replied firmly.
  • Hazel admitted defeat. "Okay! You're the boss; I'll do as you say!"
  • At Wood Corporation.
  • Clara dressed in baby blue work attire with her hair done up in her usual old-fashioned style and wearing gold-rimmed glasses.
  • Security stopped her at the door. "Miss, you're not an employee of Wood Corporation," the guard informed her.
  • "I'm here for an interview," Clara replied with a polite smile.
  • "The employees of Wood Corporation have a far better fashion taste. You should go home and dress up properly."
  • "How dare you question the taste of the CEO's secretary, Hazel Harper?" Clara threatened with a smile.
