Chapter 12 You Want Me to Act Like Uncivilised Man?

  • Melanie paused for a second, setting down her bag and slipping off her coat. Her tone was casual as she said, "Are you here for Yuki's matter?"
  • Otherwise, she couldn't figure out why Yohan would show up.
  • Yohan looked up, not giving a direct answer but throwing the question back, "What took you so long to get back?"
  • Melanie stayed half an hour longer than usual to revise Yuki's report.
  • She poured herself a cup of hot water to shake off the cold.
  • Yohan still had his eyes on her, sprawled out on the couch as if he owned the place.
  • "I had to work overtime, and with the rain outside, I got held up," Melanie explained.
  • "You're not too happy with Yuki," Yohan remarked with a slight twitch of his eyebrow, sounding pretty sure of himself.
  • Taking a sip of hot water, Melanie instantly felt more at ease. She wasn't really in the mood to discuss Yuki with Yohan. "As long as you're happy, does my attitude matter?"
  • Melanie's tone took on a hint of displeasure as she paused before asking, "Any other reason for dropping by?"
  • Yohan's phone buzzed on the coffee table. Before he raised his gaze, he glanced at it. His calm eyes assess Melanie.
  • In the next instant, he shifted his attention back to his phone, typing out a reply to the message. Then, his gaze returned to linger on Melanie's slender waist, a chuckle escaping him as he said, "What other reason could there be?"
  • There was an unspoken understanding among adults, especially given their years of intimacy.
  • Melanie, on the other hand, appeared somewhat distant, her mind wandering as she listened to the rain outside.
  • Yohan had playfully pinched her waist and leaned in to plant a quick kiss on her lips, his voice low and teasing. "Melanie, focus."
  • Yohan had been in a good mood that night.
  • When it was over, he even did something rare and helped Melanie clean up.
  • But the marks on Melanie's body were too noticeable and hadn't faded by the next day.
  • Trying to cover them up only made them stand out more, so Melanie opted for a long-sleeved shirt and high-waisted pants, looking quite put-together.
  • But Yohan accidentally or deliberately left a mark on Melanie's neck. She didn't notice, but others did.
  • Yuki had a sour expression all day, shooting glares at Melanie from time to time.
  • At noon, when Melanie hadn't left yet, they heard some faint arguing from the CEO's office. Soon after, Yuki stormed out, her eyes red, and slammed the door on her way out.
  • As she walked past Melanie, she hesitated for a moment before quickly walking away.
  • Melanie remained calm, gathering her belongings as she had a meeting with a client later in the afternoon.
  • When she returned from the meeting, Yuki's eyes were still red.
  • Melanie guessed she hadn't patched things up with Yohan yet.
  • But she didn't dwell on it and just grabbed the documents to find Yohan.
  • Handing it over, she said, "Need your signature on these."
  • Yohan grunted, and then suddenly glanced at her neck, frowning. "Why didn't you cover it properly? Were you trying to let her see?"
  • Melanie replied, "I didn't notice."
  • She understood that if he had argued with Yuki, he must have felt uneasy and needed a reason.
  • She said, "If needed, I can explain it to her."
  • Yohan was taken aback. His pen-twirling halted, and then he let out a scoff. He asked, "Explain what?"
  • "I slept with someone else. It has nothing to do with you."
  • "Melanie." After hearing her words, Yohan remained silent for a while. He looked at her blank expression as if she genuinely believed it didn't matter who she slept with last night.
  • Yohan pushed his tongue against his cheek and then tossed the pen onto the table. He asked sarcastically, "Do you want me to act like a reckless, uncivilised man?"
