Chapter 2 Home Again

  • Natasha's demeanor softened as she heard Aria's voice, patting her head gently. "He is getting our things."
  • Suddenly, an overly made-up woman in a luxurious outfit rushed by, barely hitting Natasha's shoulder. "Sorry, get out of my way."
  • The voice rang a bell.
  • Natasha turned to study the woman, but the latter had moved on to another gate. Natasha felt shivers up and down her body as she recognized the woman, her pupils becoming smaller and gaze becoming disgusted.
  • Kateryn?!
  • Despite the enormous disparity in demeanor, Natasha could still tell who she was instantly, even with the horrible makeup. Natasha's eyes moved down to the golden-filigreed jade bangle on Kateryn's wrist, which had been left to Natasha by Theophania Carras. Natasha had misplaced it in the hotel room where she had spent the night with an unknown man back then but hadn't thought Kateryn would actually steal it.
  • Remembering Kateryn and Shawn's deceit, Natasha's gaze became freezing.
  • She would never forgive anyone who hurt her baby. Shawn, Kateryn—and everyone else!
  • However, that had to wait with her getting back only recently and not being able to familiarize Aria with the place.
  • Footsteps jolted Natasha from her thoughts, and she looked to the place it had come from, which was apparently another gate. A neat line of black-suited bodyguards acted as a barricade against outsiders, and Kateryn was somehow within.
  • Natasha continued to study everything while pushing aside her doubts.
  • "Mr. Fletcher's here!" exclaimed a voice before a procession emerged from the corridor.
  • The man in question was the one and only Sebastian, a Glendrian celebrity who was the only one befitting his status. Being Reginald's last-in-line grandson, he had taken possession of the head of the family status two years after his return, monopolizing the whole industry and brooking no disrespect with his stern and sharp ways. Natasha had heard word of his ruthlessness even overseas.
  • He was Shawn's youngest uncle as well.
  • The thought of Shawn brought loathing to her gaze, but she swallowed her feelings and looked through the crowd, discerning Sebastian instantly as he was far too recognizable. He sauntered steadily right in the center of the group, half a head taller than everyone while wearing a night-colored custom suit accentuating his height as well as wide shoulders. The air he exuded was extremely oppressive.
  • The bodyguards at the exit surged around him the instant he emerged. "Mr. Fletcher!"
  • Sebastian merely nodded emotionlessly in response, and everyone moved once again to either side of him.
  • Feeling Natasha's gaze, he stared at her from a distance commandingly with dark eyes, though nothing showed in his expression. She looked back fearlessly and even smirked at him, making him scowl in dissatisfaction. However, he then moved his gaze away as someone talked to him from one side.
  • Natasha gazed at his sculpted side profile with a puzzling emotion awakening inside her, as she abruptly recalled the unknown man she had accidentally slept with six years back.
  • As she was ruminating about this, she suddenly spotted Kateryn surging toward Sebastian and looping her hand through his, which caused Natasha to sneer. She hadn't anticipated that Kateryn would make her way up the social ladder with those means, with the enormous disparity between the Yarborough and Fletcher families. He didn't seem like the affectionate sort either, so why—
  • "Something on your mind?"
  • A calming masculine voice jolted Natasha back to real life, and she turned to see Angus Wyndham in a fuzzy camel-colored coat and a warm, cozy demeanor.
  • She smiled in greeting. "Got our things?"
  • "Yep, there weren't a lot of passengers." Angus smiled slightly before frowning, "What would make you come back right now? There are men looking around for you, and you know that."
  • "I do, but I need to find that thing Grandma has told me to—" Natasha looked down. The jade ring Theophania had instructed her to get back was here, not to mention Natasha was fixated on seeking revenge for Theophania's passing and discovering the reality of the occurrences six years ago.
  • "It's been some time." Angus paused when she remained quiet. "Anyway, do be cautious."
  • "Right," assured Natasha and took Aria's hand before leaving. She didn't like letting everyone in on her affairs nor inform them regarding anything, even Angus despite the fact he had saved her and Aria from dying back in Kingdom of Brundela.
