Chapter 2 A Reborn Female Student

  • The television news was broadcasting the discovery of a female body in the sea of City B the previous afternoon. The victim, believed to be around 25 years old, was identified as a wanted suspect involved in industrial espionage and murder. As the teenage girl attentively watched the news, her expression remained serious.
  • Little did anyone know that the soul of the teenage girl had undergone a fateful exchange with the soul of the deceased woman on the screen. Lisa Brooks had been reborn, her essence now residing within the newly discovered body.
  • It was an extraordinary occurrence, one that took even Lisa, renowned for her adaptability, a considerable amount of time to accept and come to terms with. However, since fate had granted her a second chance at life, she was resolute in her determination to fulfill the oath she had made in her previous existence. If she managed to survive, Matthew Greyson and Sara Brooks would undoubtedly face the consequences for their past actions.
  • Matthew and Sara, brace yourselves. Lisa Brooks had returned. She had returned to seek justice for the murder of her mother and the years of manipulation and abuse she endured at the hands of the Brooks family.
  • The body that Lisa now inhabited belonged to an 18-year-old girl named Evelyn Stone. She was born into a single-parent family, her mother having given birth out of wedlock. This circumstance had subjected both mother and daughter to prolonged humiliation and disdain from their relatives. Throughout her life, Evelyn was taunted and referred to as "the bastard."
  • Adding to her hardships, Evelyn faced constant rejection, isolation, and bullying from her peers at school. This unrelenting mistreatment had left her with deep-seated insecurities, rendering her introverted, fragile, and struggling to express herself.
  • Evelyn's mother, Olivia Stone, worked as a factory laborer and earned meager wages due to her lack of a college degree. Their lives were filled with hardships and financial struggles.
  • As a high school senior in City F, Evelyn's National College Entrance Examination was only a semester away. However, she was not academically inclined, making it challenging for her to secure a place in college.
  • Their relatives, unsympathetic to their circumstances, scoffed at their aspirations. Some even callously suggested that Evelyn should marry a random man after the exam for the sake of Olivia's well-being.
  • But as Lisa pondered the reason behind Evelyn's hospitalization, her eyes reflected a mixture of anger and displeasure. It seemed that Evelyn had faced a similar ordeal.
  • Prior to the accident, Evelyn had been in a relationship with a young man named Ethan Kane for two months. Ethan was a handsome and outgoing student from a wealthy background. His father held a high-ranking position in the tourism bureau, while his mother was a director in the hospital's obstetrics and gynecology department. Ethan belonged to an influential family.
  • It had been beyond Evelyn's wildest dreams to capture the attention of someone as exceptional as Ethan. Moreover, she had harbored secret feelings for him for an entire year. Despite knowing the mismatch, she couldn't bring herself to reject his advances, and eventually, she accepted his proposal.
  • However, their relationship abruptly came to an end the previous day.
  • Friday had started with great anticipation for Evelyn. She believed she was meeting Ethan for a romantic outing. To her dismay, Ethan arrived with Chloe Stone, Evelyn's cousin. It was then that Ethan callously announced his intention to break up.
  • Chloe, half a year older than Evelyn, had been raised to believe in her superiority over Evelyn. She took pleasure in tormenting her younger cousin, considering her an illegitimate child who deserved ridicule.
  • "Evelyn, Ethan never had genuine feelings for you. He was only with you because of a bet we made. I told him that if he could make you his girlfriend for two months and then break up with you, I would become his girlfriend. From now on, Ethan is mine," Chloe declared arrogantly, adding insult to Evelyn's emotional wounds.
  • The shock of the revelation left Evelyn momentarily paralyzed. She mustered the courage to question Ethan, seeking confirmation of Chloe's claim.
  • With a disdainful gaze, Ethan responded, "Absolutely true. Evelyn, did you honestly believe that I would be attracted to a poor girl like you, someone with nothing to offer? If it weren't for Chloe, I wouldn't have spared you a second glance. You repulse me."
  • Overwhelmed by shame and heartbreak, Evelyn fled the scene, desperate to escape the torment. Tragically, her escape was short-lived, as she fell victim to a devastating car accident. The impact resulted in severe brain damage and relentless bleeding, while the driver responsible cowardly fled the scene.
  • Upon regaining consciousness, Lisa found herself within Evelyn's body.
  • At that moment, two soft female voices emanated from outside the hospital room, diverting Lisa's attention. "Here's 30 thousand yuan. It's all the savings from me and your brother-in-law, but I'm afraid it won't be enough for Evelyn's surgery," Evelyn's second aunt, Ava Stone, expressed her worry. After a brief pause, she continued, "Have you tried calling our eldest brother?"
  • Eva's suggestion carried little optimism. "I did call him, but he claimed that all his money is under his wife's control. He's broke too. You know how our eldest sister-in-law is; money is everything to her. We would have to eliminate her before she would even consider lending us any money," Olivia resignedly responded.
  • Lisa couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt for not informing Olivia of her regained consciousness earlier. With her memories as Lisa Brooks intact, she was reminded of the profound love between a mother and child. Additionally, Lisa herself yearned for a mother's love, which made her swiftly accept Olivia as her own mother, drawing parallels to her late mother who had also been abandoned.
  • Although Olivia and Evelyn's lives were fraught with challenges, Lisa admired Olivia's resilience. Olivia resembled Lisa's own mother in many ways, yet she was alive—a stark contrast to the fate that befell Lisa's mother.
