Chapter 12 She Was Lying

• The couple only went out together very few times. However, she had never bought anything for Su Qi.
• Liu Nian picked out a suit from a designer label and passed it to Su Qi. “Try this on and see if it fits.”
• He was shocked upon seeing the extortionate figure printed on the price tag. “I don’t need such an expensive suit. Let’s buy a cheaper one.”
• “Just try it on. What’s the big deal?” Liu Nian was impatient.
• Knowing Liu Nian’s temperament, Su Qi took the clothes and went into the fitting room without saying a word. A few minutes later, he got dressed and came out. Everyone in the store was amazed by his transformation. Even his wife was dumbfounded. Standing at 1.8 meter, the suit fitted his tall frame perfectly. He sprung an alluring aura with vigor and vitality, he was brimming in glamour. The man bore a resemblance of a Greek god.
• “How do I look?” he asked nervously.
• The perfect image shattered the moment he spoke. Liu Nian was so disappointment and regained her senses.
• Liu Nian, no matter how presentable he may look, one can’t change the fact that he’s a loser.
• “It’s a waste of such good suit. No matter how extravagant it may be, you will never be good enough for it.” As usual, his wife abused him verbally. “We’ll take this.”
• Then, her cellphone rang in a melodious tone. The caller ID was - Him.
• Su Qi saw the uneasiness flushed across Liu Nian’s face. “Stay here and wait for me,” she said to her husband.
• “Please wrap this up.” Then she turned her attention to the salesman.
• Something was fishy!
• Su Qi knew his wife well after being married for 5 years. Judging from her reaction, it was evident that she was hiding something from him.
• “Who is it?” he asked casually.
• “A friend.”
• “A man or a woman?” He asked again.
• “It’s a man.” She frowned. “Does it matter whether it’s a man or a woman? Do I have to report to you whenever I take a call?”
• Her raised voice which attracted everyone’s attention.
• After that, she ignored him and stepped outside to take the call. Su Qi was left alone in the store to face the curious stares from the other customers.
• “Poor thing. Is that beautiful woman his wife?”
• “It seems that his wife just received a call from her lover.”
• “He has no reaction at all. Is he living off the woman?”
• “I believe so. Think about this, his wife was so fierce, yet he didn’t dare to utter a word. She must have hated him for being such a loser.”
• “That’s true. No wonder his wife is having an affair. She’s very pretty, too.”
• Su Qi felt awful after hearing the gossip. Despite the ridicule contempt from others branding his as a live-in son-in-law, he cared a lot about Liu Nian.
• On his way out to look for her, he bumped into Liu Nian who was walking back. The call obviously delighted her. However, her cheery smile disappeared as soon as she saw him. “Didn’t I tell you to wait for me in the store? Why did you come out?”
• “I was worried. Why are you being so fierce to me?” Su Qi suppressed his anger while trying to stay calm. “Who was that? You were acting strange. Do I know him?”
• He studied her expression and spotted uneasiness in her, “That was Hong. He’s a colleague from the administrative office.”
• She’s lying! But why? Does she have a lover just like what those gossipers presumed earlier?
• He was certain that he saw the caller ID as ‘Him’ on the screen of her cellphone.
• This very discovery suffocated him.
• “Oh, yes. Hong asked me out for lunch. I won’t be sending you home. Take a cab and go back on your own,” said Liu Nian. After making payment, she drove off without even giving Su Qi a chance to change her mind.
• Looking in the direction where Liu Nian drove off, Su Qi felt uneasy as something troubled him. Hence, he hailed a cab and followed her. He wanted to find out who she was meeting.
• “Please follow that car in front.”
• “Hey, I don’t do this.”
• He placed a note on the driver’s thigh and his eyes lit up instantly. “Mate, don’t worry. No one in Hua County can outrun me.”
• Ignoring the driver’s bragging, Su Qi put all his attention on Liu Nian’s car.
• Twenty minutes later, she pulled up and get down in front of a restaurant entrance. Su Qi alighted too. Soon, he caught sight of the person his wife was meeting.
• That was a very good-looking man.
• The man was around his age and wore branded clothes.
• He looked smart and successful, and far more gorgeous than those young male celebrities in the entertainment industry. The usually aloof Liu Nian transformed into a cheerful woman. Su Qi could see the joy on his wife’s face from a few meters away.
• She had never once smiled at Su Qi in that manner!
• This heart-wrenching pain had resulted in him to burst into a cold sweat. It was unbearable.
• As Liu’s live-in husband for five years, he had been abused and scorned. However, none of that could beat his feeling at this very moment!
• He would have stormed up to them and beat the man up if it was not for the 5 years spell that was yet to be lifted. He shouldn’t be acting recklessly.
• After taking a deep breath, he hid at the side and observed them in discreet.
• He was hoping that it was nothing like what he imagined. Maybe Liu Nian was simply meeting an old friend whom she had not met in a long time and nothing more and she had not betrayed him.
• Even though he knew it was highly unlikely…
• He hid in the corner like a ghost or an ornament without attracting any attention.
• But gradually, his heart started to grow cold. Liu Nian and the man chatted happily; she couldn’t stop smiling. As a man, he knew what it meant!
• “Niannian, it’s been quite a while since we met. You’re getting prettier.”
• “Really? Tao, don’t tell me you’re trying to coax me?”
• “It’s true. Why would I lie, Niannian? You’re the prettiest and most elegant woman I’ve ever met,” the man fixed his eyes on Liu Nian without even attempting to veil his passion for her.
• His stare made Liu Nian felt feverish, “Tao, stop looking at me like that. I’m already married.”
• Upon hearing this, there was a flicker of gloominess on the man’s expression but it became in depth again in split second, “Niannian, I’ve been waiting for you all this while. Just leave him and be with me. I swear I’ll make you the happiest woman on earth!”
• He vowed by raising three fingers.
• Liu Nian raised her head and looked at him. She sighed and said, “Tao, give me some time…”
• “How much more time do you need? I’ve waited 2 years and don’t want to go on waiting,” Tao got emotional as he reached out hold Liu Nian’s hand.
• At this moment, a beer bottle came crashing down on the table in front of them. It almost hit his hand. A silhouette appeared before them, “Get your hands off her!”
