Chapter 4 About Them
- Carl drives his car back to his building. In a swift move, he went back to his office. He clutches his chest as he tries to calm himself, but his head throbs in pain and it happened the moment he saw the stain of blood on the woman’s finger.
- “What happened, my Lord,” asked his secretary who was now assisting him as he went inside his office.
- He gasped for air the moment he successfully sat down. He clenched his fists and knocked on his table as he was still gasping for air. Why the hell is he having trouble breathing?
- “B-Blood,” he said between his gasps, “the tablet.”
- His secretary then got the message he was trying to rely on. He needs a blood tablet. As vampires have the special ability to move swiftly, the secretary went back immediately with a glass of water and dropped the tablet into it. The water then turned red and he handed it over to him.
- “What happened, my Lord? Why do you seem sick?”
- He didn’t reply and drank the red water in one toss. But still, he was troubled to breathe. Seems like it’s no use. He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth. As his thought traveled to the wounded finger of the woman, his fangs came out.
- “Have you found a prey, my Lord?” his secretary asked.
- He shook his head. “It’s just a pierce on her finger. It’s just a point of blood. Why do I feel like this?”
- “Of all the vampires, my Lord, you’re the strongest one who can resist any amount of blood you will see. But why do you seem weak?"
- That’s also his query to himself.
- He opened his eyes and retracted his fangs. “I want you to find that girl. All about her, Maria,” he said to his secretary.
- “Who is it, my Lord?”
- “The girl who’s with me.”
- “Ms. Arabella Monroe? She’s a student in a—”
- “No. The other girl. You’ve mistaken her as Monroe, but she’s not. Her name is Athena Johnson. Report to me where I can find her.”
- “Pardon me, my Lord, but is this because of her?” Maria asked.
- He nodded.
- “I will get back to you with the details then, my Lord,” Maria finally said, and was about to turn her back when he spoke again, “call Greg Roman. I need to check and discuss something with him. But never mention that."
- “Yes, my Lord,” Maria replied and bowed her head.
- “WHAT did you say, Athena? You ran away from your work?” Bethany asked the moment she got back to their apartment.
- When she gets back, Bethany is still there eating her pancakes. She unbuttoned her blouse and removed it, leaving just her black sports bra.
- “And why do you always dress like that?” her friend asked. “You’ve got big boobies; you should wear a bra.”
- She rolled her eyes and walked towards the fridge to grab some cold water.
- “Anyway, why did you leave your boss? You texted me that you had got in but a moment later, I saw you enter the house.”
- She shrugged her shoulders as she poured the cold water from the pitcher into the glass and sipped it. “I don’t know.”
- “What the hell, Athena? For your information, you’re a girl and must act like a lady. I knew it, you threatened your boss, so he fired you?”
- She put down the glass in the lavaBethany. “I think he has got a problem with his stomach. Maybe diarrhea,” she replied.
- “Are you being serious?”
- She nodded, trying to hold her laughter when she saw her friend's expression.
- “The owner of the PRIMO has diarrhea. Like what the F! No way. You tell me the truth or I’m going to force you?” Bethany threatened.
- She chuckled and shook her head.
- “Oh, Bethany, why do you always play authority on me? Do you think I'll be bothered by it?" she shook her head, "to give your heads up, maybe something urgent has come up, okay?”
- “So, what’s your plan then?” Bethany asked.
- She pulled a chair and tore a piece of pancake on the plate, “Giving up?” she chaffed.
- Bethany sneered. “As if giving up is your cup of tea. Come on, Athena. We’ve been together for years. I know you have plans lingering on your mind. Spill the beans.”
- She put the piece of pancake inside her mouth and chewed it before throwing a smile at Bethany. “I will just have to wait for their call.”
- “How sure are you that they will call you?” Bethany asked, furrowing.
- A sly smirk formed on her lips. “Trust me, they will.”
- “Eventually, all things fell into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moments, and know everything happens for a reason.”
- “YOU SUMMONED me, my Lord.”
- “You may take your seat, Roman.”
- Carl could feel that he had already regained his energy. But he took three blood tablets. A sharp question mark was still planted on his head. Confused why he took such a quantity of tablets. Bothered that his doubt must be true.
- It'd been a long time since he craved blood and that’s when he found his beloved, Laura. But when the woman died a few years ago, he never felt hunger. Not until today, when he saw the blood of that woman. It seemed like his throat was dry and he felt thirsty.
- According to the ancient scriptures in the vampire realm, a member of royal vampires can only experience hunger once they find their beloved—the one they may be bonded with through a blood contract in a short period of time or for the rest of their existence.
- Royal Vampires can find their beloved more than once. When their beloved denies them, they can still find another without receiving death. Vampires are immortals but can die once a hunter's weapon is pierced into them. They contain all the special abilities a supernatural being can have but some have limits.
- It’s been a long time since vampires got along with humans. Both societies, the vampires and hunters, desire a peaceful co-existence on both sides.
- The vampire realm consisted of three ranks; the Royals, Purebloods, and the Elders. Royal Vampires or Royals were the eldest known family of Vampires, the highest-ranked in their realm. They have the final say on everything. Pure Vampires or Purebloods are responsible for the command of the Royals.
- While the Elders, they’re the councils of vampires, the oldest being who manages to live for a long time, they’re the ones who guide the Royals. Both Purebloods and Elders served the Royal Vampires. And the Evans Family is the only remaining bloodline of the Royals.
- Carl, being the next to the throne, needs to fulfill his responsibilities—keeping the peace between vampires and humans.
- “I found a stray vampire lurking in the ABCD. Dressing like a sexy lady who lures men and wants to suck blood. If this happens again and if those ex-humans set a foot in the human realm, you know I won’t give them mercy,” he said.
- “Pardon me, my Lord. It won’t happen again.”
- “I assigned you, Purebloods, to look for them, yet one stray escape?”
- Stray vampires, or simply called stray, are once humans who were forced into the vampire side by military power ages ago during their great grandfather's existence. According to the Elders, his great grandfather was once greedy about power. But that stopped when he was killed by a hunter.
- Stray vampires are dangerous once they taste human blood. They may get out of control and kill everything that gets in their way.
- Greg Roman still bowing his head while his hand rests on his abdomen, showing respect to him.
- “Vampires were once humans’ foe, but my father managed to arrange a union between us and humans, thus gives peace to both sides. But one mistake can turn to another chaos, once you don’t fulfill your duties, Purebloods,” he said, calmly.
- The Hunter society remains to lay low because of the agreement, but when vampires break any rules in the agreement, they might alarm them. Thus, a war might happen again after a long time. But the earlier he tackles it, the earlier it will prevent any war from happening.
- “We are sorry, my Lord.”
- He clasped his hand and rested it on his table as he looked directly at the man. “You may leave.”
- Greg left the room swiftly and Maria came over and laid a folder in front of him.
- “This is all the information I’ve got, my Lord.”
- He nodded and his secretary left. He then reached for it and opened the folder. The woman’s picture caught his eyes. There’s no doubt that the woman is beautiful but still young compared to him. As vampires don’t age, he still looked young even if he’s already fifty years old in their world, but like a bachelor in his mid-twenties, in the human realm.
- He admits he liked the girl, and the smell of her blood was sweet—he never fails at describing the scents of blood. There’s something in the woman’s blood and he needs to find it out. And it’s also impossible that he will be bonded with a mere human.
- He grabbed his phone on the top of the table and dialed the number he had seen on the woman’s resume. He’s been living in the world of humans since then and he has already adapted to their actions and their lives.
- In just three rings she picked it up.
- “Yes?” said the girl. He closed his eyes, even her voice was like an angel descended from heaven.
- “This is PRIMO Inc—”
- “I’ve been expecting your call. What now?”
- He secured his grip on his phone. If he uses his ability, the phone might be burned into ashes by now. But he knows how to control himself by using any of his abilities. The woman has got that attitude ever since he met her. All through his life, there is no one who throws glares and disrespects him. But this girl, she has the guts.
- “It was you who followed us that night.”
- He grinned when he sensed that the body of that woman stiffened.
- “Are you surprised, little one?” He played the pen in his fingers. “Let me warn you, honey. You won’t like to mess with Primo Evans.”
- It was a minute, but the girl still didn’t respond.
- “And one more thing… you were right all along. A vampire does exist.” He hung up.
- He has no intentions of frightening the girl or threatening her. It’s just that he thinks it’s the best way to get closer to her.
- “Who are you, Athena?” he whispered. “Why do you have the sudden effect on me?”
