Chapter 2 The Grand Return

  • Two years later.
  • London.
  • "Congratulations on your award, Miss Emilia Luke. Is there anything you would like to say, Miss Emilia?" the MC asked with a polite smile.
  • Emilia Luke, dressed in a elegant yellow gown, held a crystal goblet in her hand. Her long, slightly curled hair fell gracefully, and a composed smile adorned her face. "First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to my mentor and all those who have supported me. This award is not solely mine, but also belongs to everyone who has supported me. Thank you all!"
  • She spoke with a casual yet concise tone.
  • The MC smiled and inquired, "Receiving such an esteemed award is indeed an honor. May I ask what Miss Emilia plans are for the future?"
  • Upon hearing this, Emilia paused for a moment before responding, "Actually, I have made the decision to return to work at Y&G Group."
  • Whispers filled the audience upon hearing her announcement.
  • Y&G Group, a rapidly growing company that had dominated the market within a year. However, it was still a newly established company. How could Emilia let go of such a golden opportunity in London?
  • Emilia smiled, choosing not to elaborate, and simply walked off the stage.
  • The following day.
  • At 10 am, at Bristol’s airport, Emilia pulled her suitcase while wearing oversized sunglasses that covered half of her beautiful face. Even so, her remarkable presence caught the attention of many.
  • Removing her sunglasses, Emilia looked at the scene before her and felt a surge of happiness in her heart.
  • It has been two years. I am finally back!
  • She reminisced about the time she had left this place, pulling her suitcase behind her.
  • First, she would find a rental property, then return the keys and move in immediately.
  • It took half a day to tidy up. Within those two years, she had become more independent.
  • Just as she finished cleaning up, her phone rang. "Hello, have you arrived home?" Dudu asked on the other end of the line.
  • Dudu was Emilia childhood friend, her soulmate, closer to her than her own older brother.
  • "I have finished cleaning up. You did that on purpose, didn't you? Calling me just now!"Emilia playfully remarked as she laid down on the sofa to rest for a moment.
  • "I'm still busy, I apologize..." Dudu replied in a spoiled tone.
  • Emilia smiled and forgave him. "Yes, I forgive you!"
  • Dudu smiled and asked, "When will you start working?"
  • "Tomorrow!"
  • "Alright, tonight I will treat you to a meal to welcome you home!"
  • "Okay."
  • "Great, see you tonight. I'll get back to work now!"
  • "Okay!"
  • After hanging up the phone, Emilia rested on the sofa for a while. As soon as she closed her eyes, she fell asleep. Until her phone rang again, Emilia abruptly woke up.
  • "Hello?" she answered the phone, still feeling a bit disoriented.
  • "Miss Emilia, I am the HR of Y&G Group. Can you start working tomorrow?"
  • Emilia, still slightly groggy, responded, "No problem!"
  • "That's good. Please come directly to the HR
  • department."
  • "Alright."
  • The call ended.
  • Upon realizing that it was already evening, Emilia intended to call Dudu. Just as she was about to do so, the doorbell rang. Emilia went to open the door.
  • "Emilia!" Dudu exclaimed with joy as soon as the door opened, immediately embracing Emilia.
  • Emilia smiled. "I thought you wouldn't have time!"
  • "If I don't have time, I'll make time. Let's go, I'll take you out for a meal."
  • Emilia nodded, changed her shoes, and left with Dudu.
  • "Oh, by the way, Emilia, now that you're back, aren't you afraid of running into Mark Samuel?" Dudu suddenly asked during their dinner.
  • In regards to this matter, Emilia Luke was momentarily taken aback, but she continued eating nonchalantly before speaking. "Even though we have crossed paths, what significance does it hold? We are already divorced," Emilia stated.
  • To meet again, we are merely strangers.
  • Dudu inquired curiously, "There is nothing inherently wrong with your words, but are you truly not concerned?"
  • Considering this, Emilia pondered for a moment before responding earnestly to Dudu, "To say that I am not worried would be a lie. However, three years have passed, and perhaps he no longer remembers me!" Emilia remarked.
  • In any case, our marriage was purely a business arrangement devoid of emotions or communication. It is highly unlikely that he would recall.
  • And what kind of person is Mark Samuel? He only has an affinity for beautiful women, and I am nothing more than a nightmare to him!
  • With this in mind, Dudu broke off a crab leg to consume and commented, "If it were the you from three years ago, I believe he would certainly not remember. However, if it were the present you..." Dudu gazed at Emilia, his eyes filled with allure.
  • "If Mark were to see you in your current state, I bet he would never have divorced you!" Dudu confidently asserted.
  • Upon hearing these words, Emilia smiled and stated, "But we are already divorced!"
  • This predicament is irreversible!
  • Recalling this, Dudu became slightly curious and remarked, "Emilia, I commend you. Three years ago, you disguised yourself for an entire year, and considering that Mark is a prominent figure in Bristol, countless women covet him. Yet, your heart remained unaffected, even when you presented yourself in such a manner, causing him to despise you!" Dudu said.
  • "That is because I am not a fool. I understand the principle of how moths are drawn to flames and meet their demise!" Emilia replied while continuing to eat and converse with Dudu.
  • Initially, she married Mark Samuel for business purposes, devoid of any emotional attachment. However, Mark Samuel is someone who never lets go of the women he desires. Therefore, Emilia will not become one of them. Her objective is simply to succeed and resign.
  • Upon hearing this, Dudu nodded in agreement. Mark possesses a strong allure for women, and there is no reason to doubt this.
  • However, Dudu suddenly remembered something and inquired, "Hey, Emilia, what do you think Mark would do if he discovered that you had lied to him three years ago?"
  • Emilia taken aback before casually responding, "He would undoubtedly suffer a miserable fate!"
  • Observing Emilia's demeanor, Dudu couldn't help but feel amused.
  • "Oh, by the way, why haven't you returned to Luke's Company? Are you afraid that Mark will find you?" Dudu asked.
  • Emilia shook her head and replied, "No, there are various reasons, and I simply do not wish to return home," Emilia explained.
  • Dudu merely nodded in understanding without pressing further.
  • Throughout the evening, the two of them engaged in a myriad of conversations, seemingly endless in their topics.
  • After their meal, Dudu accompanied Emilia back to her rented house before returning home alone.
  • Satiated, Emilia returned to her rented abode, took a shower, called a mentor residing in London, and then retired for the night.
