Chapter 76
- Amaya
- After making the promise before the cream of the Camorra, surprisingly, all the men in the room bowed as a sign of respect, and I didn't think they would. In fact, I thought it was crazy of my sister-in-law Gemma to suggest that I make a blood promise in the style of the organization, exactly like the promise Alessio made to me. Nevertheless, doing just that with a confidence I didn't entirely feel had managed to make such an impact on them that my husband was too proud, enough to smile and kiss me in front of everyone, staking his claim before all of them.
- It struck me as very caveman-like on his part, but I didn't question it. If it made it clear to everyone that I was important to my husband, then I said I would do it in private, in the warmth of our intimacy. After all, we had an agreement never to challenge each other in front of anyone unless our lives were at risk. And there was a valid point to that which I wouldn't refute. I had a belief that he had made that agreement more for my sake than his, thinking that I could be so stubborn as to not want help in a dangerous situation.
