Chapter 4 Misunderstanding

  • Ronan held a bouquet of red roses as he arrived at Davina's doorstep and rang the doorbell.
  • The door opened, revealing a man in a white tank top and black shorts, sporting red flip-flops.
  • "Who are you looking for?"
  • Fabian Xander leaned against the door, lazily eyeing the well-dressed man before him.
  • Ronan furrowed his brows slightly, calmly glanced at him, and asked, "Does Vina live here?"
  • He only knew his wife's name was Vina from Mrs. Agnes and assumed it was her real name.
  • Fabian nodded without hesitation, "That's right, Vina lives here. Are you looking for her?"
  • Davina and Fabian were fraternal twins, born just two minutes apart.
  • That's why Fabian never admitted Davina was his older sister and always called her Vina.
  • Confirming that Vina lived here, Ronan's face instantly darkened.
  • "What's your relationship with Vina?" he asked, his voice turning icy cold.
  • "She's my elder … "
  • Before he could say "sister," a woman's voice came from inside, "Honey, who's outside?"
  • Fionna Sterling, dressed in pyjamas, walked to the foyer with a pink towel wrapped around her head, clearly just finished showering.
  • Ronan coldly eyed the dishevelled woman before him, wondering if this was his wife, Vina.
  • "Fionna, why are you coming out like this! Quickly go inside, don't let this jerk see you like this?"
  • Seeing his wife wasn't wearing a bra, Fabian quickly spoke in the local Yarston dialect, asking her to come into the house.
  • Interestingly, the Yarston dialect's "Fionna" sounds similar to "Vina" in Estonian, leading Ronan to misunderstand that Fionna was his registered wife, Vina.
  • His expression darkened suddenly; two years was enough time for many things to happen.
  • Besides, he had never met Vina before, so it wouldn't be surprising if she had cheated on him.
  • Despite this, he felt a bit annoyed.
  • After all, they were married, and her behaviour seemed too casual.
  • Meanwhile, Fabian noticed Ronan's sudden, bitter expression.
  • He also saw the large bouquet of red roses in his hand, which immediately put him on alert.
  • Recently, a greasy man named Waylen Hayes had been pursuing Davina unsuccessfully and had been stalking and harassing her.
  • Concerned for Davina's safety, Fabian had temporarily moved here with his wife to support Davina.
  • Fabian stared sharply at Ronan and said irritably, "I remember now. You're that creepy stalker who's been following Vina, right? Didn't expect you to look somewhat handsome! But let me warn you, don't you dare harass Vina again, or I'll beat you to a pulp!"
  • After issuing his warning with a tight grip on his fist, Fabian slammed the door shut with a loud "bang."
  • As soon as the door closed, Fabian's body went limp. "That was terrifying! That guy is terrifying!"
  • "Honey, what happened?" Fionna hurried over from the living room.
  • "Fionna, didn't you see that creepy guy's look? He seemed like he wanted to kill me!"
  • Fabian said nervously, glancing at the clock on the wall. "Vina should be back soon. Call her and tell her that the stalker Waylen showed up again. She must be careful and avoid running into him on her way home."
  • "Got it." Fionna patted his head reassuringly before heading inside to make the call.
  • Ronan stood staring at the closed door, replaying Fabian's accusations.
  • Two things stood out: some creep had been harassing Vina recently, and Fabian mistook him for that creep.
  • How ridiculous!
  • Not bothering to explain, Ronan casually tossed the roses into a nearby trash can and walked straight to the elevator without looking back.
  • Just as Davina entered her neighbourhood, she received a call from Fionna warning her about Waylen.
  • Hearing Waylen's name gave her a headache.
  • Waylen was a client of her company. A short, fat man with a greasy appearance. A few months ago, they started interacting due to a project. It was supposed to be a purely professional relationship, but Waylen had taken a liking to her.
  • Despite her multiple rejections, Waylen seemed incapable of taking a hint. He kept sending her gifts and even went so far as to unfurl a banner declaring his love for her outside their office building, making the whole ordeal embarrassingly public.
  • Unable to deal with him directly, she had been avoiding him. She never expected him to show up at her doorstep!
  • Hanging up the phone, Davina looked around, trying to spot Waylen and avoid him.
  • She had yet to learn that the man who came earlier was Ronan, and the whole thing was a big misunderstanding.
  • But fate has a funny way of working things out. Waylen really did show up today.
  • As soon as he entered the neighbourhood, he spotted Davina.
  • "Davina," he called out, his greasy face lighting up as he shuffled over lecherously.
  • Hearing Waylen's greasy voice made Davina's skin crawl with disgust.
  • "I need to talk to you. How about dinner?" Waylen quickly stepped in front of her.
  • "I'm busy. I have plans," Davina glared at him coldly and turned to leave.
  • "Who are you meeting?" Waylen persisted, chasing after her.
  • "My husband," Davina stopped and enunciated each word clearly.
  • She repeatedly told Waylen she was married, but he pesters her.
  • "So what? Society is more open now. You always have the option to get a divorce. I wouldn't have any issues with that," Waylen grinned lecherously, his eyes roaming over her.
  • Davina's long hair flowed gracefully, her face bare of any makeup, yet she looked stunningly beautiful.
  • Today, she wore a white blouse paired with a light yellow pencil skirt that perfectly showcased her S-shaped figure.
  • Waylen's heart fluttered with lust at the sight of Davina's beauty and figure.
  • He swallowed hard, his eyes filled with desire as he stared at her. "Daviana, I'm serious about you. Stop rejecting me, okay? Be with me, and I'll give you 15,000 dollars monthly for your expenses. What do you say?"
  • "Mr. Hayes, watch your mouth!"
  • Davina snapped, her face showing apparent disdain and disgust.
  • If Waylen wasn't an essential client that her company couldn't afford to offend, she would've slapped him already.
  • Seeing that money couldn't buy Davina, Waylen sneered. "Let me remind you, your company has been acquired by Ronan. He's known for being ruthless. You'll be held responsible if I don't renew the Jacquar project with your company. When your boss flips out, you'll be packing your bags."
  • Waylen's attempt to intimidate her made Davina feel sick.
  • The company valued the Jacquar project immensely, and if it wasn't renewed, she could be fired.
  • But there was no way she would compromise herself; Waylen severely underestimated her.
  • Just as she was about to unleash her anger on this greasy pig, a low, cold voice came behind her. "Waylen. As of now, Quantum Xenon Tech is officially terminating all cooperation with your company. The Jacquar project will not be renewed."
  • Davina turned around to see a man in a black suit with an imposing presence standing behind her. It was none other than her company's CEO, Ronan!
