Chapter 10 Truth Juice
- “Well, if you don’t say anything, I will have no choice but to assume that you’ve agreed.” Seeing that Christopher hadn’t responded for a long time, Luna said again, “Well, then, I’ll inform the Human Resources department on your behalf. Go get busy!”
- After saying that, Luna seemed to really have something to deal with. She took out a document from a folder and began scanning through it.
- Without saying anything further, Christopher left the office after nodding slightly at Luna. He closed the door behind him gently. Once he left, Luna raised her head to double-check. In fact, there were no documents waiting for her to review. At once, she threw aside the documents and took out her mobile phone to make a call.
- “Hi, big sis, what made you call?” As soon as the call connected, an adorable female voice came from the speaker. Judging from her tone, she was young.
- “Big sis?” Hearing how this lady addressed her, she merely let out a chuckle. “So I’m big sis to you now?”
- “Well, not really, but your breasts are bigger than mine! Hmph, I’m jealous, so I’ll just call you ‘big sis’.”
- Sigh, Scarlett Sparks. Luna shook her head helplessly. Sometimes she really didn’t know what to do with her.
- “Alright now, stop fooling around! I have a serious matter to ask you.” Retracting the smile on her face, Luna continued, “Didn’t you say that you wanted to come to my restaurant to be the head chef? The position is now vacant, so what do you think? Do you want to come by and help me?”
- “Finally?” Scarlett got excited and exclaimed as soon as she heard the head chef position was vacant. “Yes! Of course, I am coming over! Luna, you don’t know this but I’m bored to death here in Eryshire! That old fart Lawrence not only prevents me from shopping but also forces me to practice cooking every day. How exhausting!”
- Old fart? Luna smiled when she heard how Scarlett addressed her grandfather. Is there anyone who calls their grandfather like that? However, she immediately forgot about it soon after; with Scarlett’s personality that loved all-things-chaotic, it wasn’t strange for her to call him that at all!
- “Great! Since you’ve agreed, when will you be coming in?” Luna continued to ask.
- “When will I be coming in?” Scarlett’s initially cheerful tone somehow became sad again. She was a little aggrieved. “I want to come right away but that old fart definitely won't agree to it. What’s more, he’ll be sure to go on and on about how we shouldn’t easily trust anyone and anyone can betray you bla bla bla. I don't even know if he will let me go!”
- “As for Chef Lawrence, don’t worry too much about it.” Hearing Scarlett’s doubts, Luna replied with a light smile, “I have my ways to change his mind—you only need to pack your bags and book the ticket to Brentwood. Just leave the rest to me!”
- “Alright! I’ll trust you!” Immediately, Scarlett’s voice turned cheerful again, “How about tonight then? I will fly over tonight!” She couldn’t help but feel excited at the thought of escaping from Eryshire.
- “That’s set!”
- “Yes!”
- As Luna was about to hang up, she seemed to have suddenly recalled something. She put the phone that she had taken away back to her ear, and called out Scarlett’s name. “Scarlett.”
- “Yeah? What is it, Luna?” Scarlett on the other end of the line answered sweetly.
- “Do you know how to use Dual Wielding?”
- “Why do you ask?”
- “Nothing much. I want to introduce someone to you.”
- …
- Night came.
- When Christopher finally finished with his work, it was almost ten o’clock in the evening. After walking out of The Serenade, he felt like he was in a dream—too many things had happened today and he felt the need to sort his thoughts out.
- When he walked into the restaurant this morning, he was still a mere helper in the kitchen—a nobody. However, everything was different now when he left the restaurant for the day—all thanks to the thumbs-up system!
- After getting on the bus back to his rental house, he fished out his mobile phone to check on the system again. As he clicked into the system, the familiar interface unfolded in front of his eyes yet again. He noticed that the 1,121 thumbs-ups were still there. This means I can draw the lottery ten more times!
- Naturally, he knew he couldn’t afford half the things in the online mall. In addition to the limited-time power foods, the cheapest item—the Parallel Universe Kitchen Appliance and Storage—cost 100,000 thumbs-ups!
- 100,000 thumbs-ups! How long would that take for me to save up?
- “Nah. Let’s not think about that for now. We’ll go with the lottery!” In fact, Christopher was a little excited. A Dual Wielding skill for 60 minutes earned him a thousand thumbs-ups. If he was able to draw a higher level of knife skill, what would that bring him?
- What am I waiting for? Let’s just draw! With that, Christopher clicked on the ‘draw’ button, and instantly, the roulette started spinning.
- Seconds later… The familiar robotic voice rang in his ears again. “Ding! Congratulations host, you have received The Scroll of Fire Skill Experience. Your Fire Skill experience points will increase by 100. There are 9,900 points of experience before your next upgrade.”
- Christopher was dissatisfied with this result. Scroll of Fire Skill Experience? I don’t need that! After the number of likes he got previously, the lottery draw would be more useful when drawn ten times and a hundred times simultaneously. He believed the more he drew the lottery, the better his rewards. To achieve an upgrade in his skills, a mere ‘Scroll of Fire Skill Experience’ was nothing short of a drop in the bucket. Now what he needed was some magical props similar to Dual Wielding in the ‘other’ categories.
- “Ding! Congratulations host, you have received The Scroll of Tasting Skills Experience. Your Tasting Skills experience point will increase by 100. There are 9,900 points of experience before your next upgrade.” Christopher drew the lottery again and received a Scroll of Tasting Skills.
- “Ding! Congratulations host, you have received The Scroll of Choosing Skills Experience…”
- “Ding! Congratulations host, you have received The Scroll of Knife Skills Experience…”
- “Ding! Congratulations host…”
- “Ding!”
- “Ding!”
- “Ding…”
- At this point, Christopher had drawn eight times in a row, but not once did the white pointer point to the ‘other’ category. So far, he had obtained a total of one ‘Scroll of Knife Skills Experience’, two ‘Scrolls of Fire Skills Experience’, three ‘Scrolls of Tasting Skills Experience’, and two ‘Scrolls of Choosing Skills Experience’.
- Could it be that my luck has run out? Christopher thought to himself. However, he refused to believe that and clicked on the ‘draw’ button again.
- Whoosh! Immediately, the white pointer turned again, and this time, it finally stopped on the ‘other’ category.
- However, Christopher was taken aback by the result again as the prize displayed on the ‘other’ region turned out to be nothing. Nothing? Nothing?! How could this be? Why didn’t I know that there were such settings?
- Christopher felt devastated. One hundred thumbs-ups had gone to waste just like this. No doubt, it was not worth it at all.
- “In for a penny, in for a pound. F*ck it!” Initially, Christopher wanted to save another 100 thumbs-ups for emergency situations. However, now that it came to this, he no longer wanted to save them anymore. He refused to believe nothing good would turn up even after he drew 10 times continuously!
- The white pointer began to turn after he clicked ‘draw’ again. This time, Christopher got lucky and the pointer stopped on the ‘other’ category, but this time it was actually something useful.
- “Ding! Congratulations host, you have received a bottle of Truth Juice.” As soon as the robotic voice finished talking, a drink can about the size of a can of Coca Cola appeared in front of him which had ‘Truth Juice’ written on the can.
