Chapter 11 Biased For Her

  • EVANDER'S POV
  • "What is the stance on the recent rogue attacks? Also, I heard some weird activities were seen at the borders of our pack last night. What is it about? Is the council looking into the matter, or do they expect us to look into the matter this time as well?" I asked Jason as he sat in my office with a lazy look on his face.
  • "They said they'll look into the matter. However, they are hoping we could send our best spies to help their team. I think they are looking into the matter with the rogue head. They have been trying to trace him for a long time, and this time they are sure he is somewhere in our country. And regarding the weird activities of last night, we are still unsure as to what exactly had happened. Some security members on the patrol said that they saw a weird wind pattern flowing outside our pack, and some said they had an illusion of a tornado-like thing forming in the sky.
  • I am sure the member who said this was drunk. A tornado in the sky without touching the ground? That to be when there were no witches in the area? He has to be drunk," Jason said before rolling his eyes, and I sighed.
  • "The rogue head is in our country? We need to try to keep track of him too. We can’t sit still like this when so many activities are taking place simultaneously. You know how that guy is. We can never predict what he is up to, and when he attacks any pack uselessly just because he is in the mood. Also, be it the wind pattern or any drunk illusion of some pack member, I need you to find out about it too. It's not good for us. It can be our enemies who might be trying to form allies with the evil witches to take us down. We need to find what it was and why it happened," I said, and he nodded his head.
  • "I knew you would say something like that, and that's why I have already called the council head and had asked him to ask the witch friend of his if there was some witch who passed through our pack last night or if someone tried to play some trick with us," Jason said, and I nodded at him.
  • "That's good. Wait for their reply, and let me know what they have to say regarding the rogue matter too. Is there anything that needs my urgent attention? I have to take the English classes of the second senior class in twenty minutes," I asked him, and he sighed.
  • "I know it's useless to say this, but why don't you quit this teaching job? These responsibilities and jobs are taking a toll on you, and I can see that. Just look at yourself. When was the last time you had a decent sleep?" Jason said, and I nodded my head.
  • “Last night. For some reason, last night I was able to sleep peacefully,” I told him dreamily as Avyanna’s sleeping face when I was carrying her to her room appeared in my mind, making me sigh.
  • “What did you say?” Jason asked me, and I shook my head.
  • "I know you are only looking for me, but I can't agree to it. You know it was mom's dream to teach in a school after I was five years old and capable of taking care of myself. However, she died in the rogue attack. I don't want her dream to die. It makes me feel I am able to do something for her," I said, and he nodded his head.
  • "Well, as you wish. Just know that I am always here if you need help with -" he paused mid-sentence when Alex opened the door with a loud bang, making me look at him as if he was wishing for his death for making so much noise.
  • "Evander, I know you hate it when I act like this, but this is serious. It's about your sister. She.." He took a deep breath, making me immediately stand as I looked at him urgently, already making my way out of the door.
  • "What about my sister, Alex?" I asked him, and he sighed.
  • "She got into some trouble. She is fighting with the girls from the sinister pack. They are beating her," he said, and I growled under my breath.
  • "What did you say? They are beating my girl, and rather than saving her, you came here running like a wuss, complaining about what is going on? You are seriously trying to get on my nerves, aren't you?" I asked him, and he looked at me before gulping as my wolf Cyrus started to get angry.
  • ‘He dared to let them hurt what is ours!’ Cyrus growled, wanting to take over my body, and I took a deep breath before telling him to calm down and let me handle the matter.
  • "Evander, it's not about that. After seeing her repulsive reaction on the breakfast table on a thing as small as you dropping her, I wasn't sure if we should meddle in her business like this. What if she flips out?" Alex asked me, and I rolled my eyes.
  • "Do you really think that should be our prime concern at the moment? She might get hurt badly and feel traumatized for god’s sake!
  • Also, if we will save their fight, it will be in the name of preventing the kids from making a fuss and maintaining the school's decorum,” I said, and he nodded his head, making me sigh.
  • “Now, what are you waiting for? Go and see if the infirmary is ready and the doctor hasn't gone on a stroll again. What if Avy needs immediate medical attention? You just hope that she is alright, or I am going to beat you today," I couldn't help but warn him as I rushed towards the canteen, multiple scenarios going inside my head.
  • 'Please be safe, Avyanna. I won't be able to forgive myself if something happened to you today. I know you are hurt. I know you are mad at what's going on around your relationship with your mother, but please don't harm yourself like this. I will never be able to look into my dad’s eyes if something happened to you," I thought in my head, looking at Alex angrily, making him bow his head as he rushed towards the scene, walking even faster, his widened eyes when he stopped at the gate of the canteen, making my heart thump as I expected the worst.
  • 'Please let her be safe,' I whispered in my head before taking a deep breath.
  • "Step aside!" I said before gently pushing him aside.
  • Traveling my gaze around the canteen, my eyes darkened when I took in the scene in front of me.
  • "Avyanna, what the hell is going on here?" I couldn't help but growl her name when I saw her on the ground, and I know I should be going there and helping her up rather than shouting at her like this, and I would've surely helped her if she wasn't like this.
  • I would’ve surely helped her if she wasn’t the one on the top while the other girls lay on the ground, at her mercy.
  • Avyanna wasn’t the only girl lying on the ground. Three more girls were on the ground along with her, her limbs pinning them down.
  • Her left leg was twisted around a girl's neck while her other leg was pressing the other girl down with her hand gripping the neck of who I remember as the head of these girls from the Sinister pack.
  • As if shocked by my sudden intrusion, she looked at me like a deer caught in headlights.
  • "Bro- Eva- Mr. Sterling, I... they started it!" She said wide-eyed, looking at me with an unadulterated gaze like that of an innocent kid, and I couldn't help but feel my heart softening at her gaze, all my anger dissipating in a second.
  • She was looking like a kid who was caught in the act and was now trying to blame others for her sins, and no matter how much I told myself that I was her teacher and I was supposed to act unbiased towards my students and was supposed to scold her, I just couldn't bear raising my voice at her.
  • 'That's what we call whipped, Evander. You are whipped for her already. I think years of loneliness are finally catching up on you, and now you can't think of harming the girl who has come to live by your side and has suddenly become a part of your life,' Cyrus whispered in my head, and I pressed my lips into a thin line while looking at him.
  • 'Last time I checked, I never asked for your opinion,' I said before blocking him, much to his dismay.
  • "You said she was being beaten up?" I asked Alex, who was still looking at her with shocked eyes, and couldn't help but shake my head at him for scaring me so much.
  • "Can you first get up so that we can see who was at fault and who wasn't?" I asked, and she chuckled awkwardly while everyone was looking at them.
  • "What are you guys looking at? Is this some kind of amusing show to you? Do you want me to detain you for not calling a teacher as soon as you saw them fighting?" I asked the crowd angrily, and everyone dispersed as soon as I uttered those words.
  • "I think I need to talk to your alpha," I said to Melinda, who was the leader of the girls' group before holding Avyanna's hand and helping her up by untangling her limbs from around those girls.
  • "Ouch," She winced slightly when my hand touched her elbow, and I turned it, my eyes darkening when I saw some blood dripping.
  • “Does it hurt a lot?” I couldn’t help but ask her, and she bit her lips before nodding slightly.
  • "I had heard you were a trouble maker, but I didn't know you were such a trouble magnet, who would invite such a mess on the first day of her school. Let’s get you treated," I said, holding her gently as I massaged the back of her palm, not knowing why I was comforting her in the first place.
  • Looking up at me as if offended by my sentence, she pouted her lips while looking down, and I couldn't help but sigh.
  • I was having this strong urge to hold her in my arms and pick her up bridal style and just rush to the infirmary. However, I knew it would become a nuisance for her later as she doesn't like it and people will indeed start gossiping. Thinking this, I knitted my brows in annoyance before gritting my teeth as I helped other girls to appear unbiased.
  • "All four of you, in the head's office right now," I said to them coldly, my gaze sweeping through Avyanna one last time as I barely controlled my instincts to go ahead and pick her in my arms to check where was she hurt and if she was really as okay as she was showing me.
  • Yes, I know I am acting weird, and as much as I hate to admit it, I was scared for her safety. It's been so long since I last cared about someone else other than my family, and though I was always repulsed by the thought of having someone to care for and have her become my weakness, for some strange reason, I liked caring for her already.
  • I don't know what was happening to me. I haven't even met her for twenty-four hours, and she is already living in my mind rent-free with her thoughts clogging up most of the space.
  • Was what Cyrus said really true? Was I already getting whipped for the girl I met not long ago?
  • "Evander? The kids are waiting," Jason, who I completely forgot about and had accompanied me, said, and I nodded my head before biting my lips, sighing loudly as my gaze met with the kid who was going to be the next alpha of the Sinister pack.
  • "I will talk with you later about how you are letting your members hurt innocent people," I told him, looking at him without an expression on my face, and he nodded his head respectfully, making me turn around and leave.
  • Now I need to check what exactly happened for that troublesome girl to show her claws on the first day of her school. I thought before smiling as I remembered her pouting face.
  • “Evander, is something the matter? Why are you smiling?” Jason asked me, and I looked at him monotonously.
  • “Are you drunk? Who is smiling?” I said before walking ahead, biting the inside of my cheeks as I realized I had indeed smiled.
