Chapter 12 Evander
- A tiny figure suddenly rushed in front of her car. Angeline flinched. She stepped down hard on the brakes, and the car came to a screeching halt.
- The sudden stop threw her body forward. Her face planted into the steering wheel and a sharp pain shot through her forehead.
- The car had stopped just as it touched Floretta. The girl fell to the ground, bruising her exposed arms and knees.
- Trickles of blood slid down her bare leg.
- “Ouch! So painful!” Floretta bawled. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
- Angeline immediately turned off the engine, pulled the handbrake, and rushed toward Floretta.
- At that moment, a group of people appeared at the entrance of the parking lot.
- Evander had just crossed the entrance when he noticed Floretta sitting on the floor, crying pitifully. His eyebrows furrowed.
- “Floretta!” Evander called out to her impatiently. His voice had a cold, stern edge.
- He walked over quickly. It took him just a few long strides to reach Floretta and Angeline.
- Behind him, Olivine tottered unsteadily in her high heels, following in his path.
- The walk exhausted Olivine. My heels must be worn out by now! This is all that silly little girl's fault!
- “Floretta, who allowed you to run around like this?”
- The man ignored Angeline. He bent his tall figure down and scooped Floretta into his arms. Floretta wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his neck, sobbing pitifully.
- “I didn't mean to do it! Who told you to find me a new mommy? I don't want a new mommy! I want my own mommy!”
- Floretta burst into tears anew as she beat her tiny fists against the man's broad chest.
- She continued crying loudly. “I'm not okay with that! Let Angel be my mommy...”
- Angeline was stunned. The corners of her lips twitched as she tried not to laugh.
- Did this girl really run in front of my car just because she wanted me to be her mom? How bold of her! This man must be her father, right? Is he a single father? He must be such a terrible father if even his own daughter refused to acknowledge him! She's already running away from home at such a young age!
- “Uh... I'm so sorry! She ran out into the road suddenly. I...” Angeline tried to explain what had happened.
- As soon as she began speaking, Olivine's face immediately snapped in her direction. Her eyes widened. The image of the woman who had bumped into her at the hotel earlier was still vivid in her memory.
- “Is that you, the woman from the hotel earlier?” Olivine asked loudly in a rather rude tone.
- The woman looked familiar. Her voice, too, sounded familiar. Olivine glanced at the way the woman was dressed, and she immediately knew that this was the woman who had crashed into her at the hotel earlier that day.
- Evander, too, was surprised to hear that voice again. He turned his attention away from his daughter and looked at Angeline.
- His eyes were icy, emotionless, and distant. A shiver ran down Angeline's spine when she met his gaze.
- Yet, Angeline was enraptured. She could not pull her eyes away.
- Evander? So, it's Evander!
- She looked at the pair of father and daughter in front of her in disbelief.
- No wonder the little girl looked so familiar! I can see the resemblance between the two of them now that they are here together! She really is a mini version of Evander! So, her father is Evander? No way. How is it possible for Evander to have a five-year-old daughter? I have never heard anyone say that he has a daughter before!
