Chapter 8 Reject

  • Methis Delis POV
  • It must have been the reason I refused him last night but I was not very sure. Perhaps I was just trying to escape the greater pain of child birth in the future.
  • Thoughts of last night made me look weak, even to myself so I stopped thinking about it. All I just wondered now was how much angrier I had made the Lycan King. He was an angry person on a normal day, he sent me off angry just when he was about to get into a good mood. I was at fault to be blamed here.
  • I did my mouth and took my bath but was now concerned that not even a single servant had entered my room to inquire of my health or my need for food as they usually did. If I was to die right here right now, I do not think any of them would notice. I had begun to get hungry and not being brought up in a royal family, I knew just how to setup my own breakfast without the need of servants so I got up from bed and headed to the kitchen. Except now there was one problem: where the hell was the kitchen?
  • I had forgotten just how massive this place was so I might had overestimated my ability to find the kitchen. It took me three hallways and four sets of stairs to find, nope, not the kitchen, but a servant that I believed knew their way around the place.
  • “Hi–“ I was about to start saying and without even sparing me as much as a glance, the servant walked away. Perhaps that one was busy.
  • But I began to doubt is as I walked past about three more servants but none of them responded to my greetings, some looked in my direction but refused to say anything. I thought that was the worst of it until I met one who gave me a look of utter disgust as she walked by. What was wrong? Clearly there was something that had happened that I was the only one that had no idea about.
  • Suddenly, my mind flashed back to the last night incident where I had rejected Jamal and I suddenly felt less confidence. It felt like they could see through my clothes into my heart. Had they heard of it? Surely it was only I and Jamal that was there last night when it happened, what was now the deal with everybody.
  • Soon enough, I got my answer for my curiosity as I turned a corner, I spotted a maid and a guard standing and talking in hushed voices. I hid myself and listened on to their conversation.
  • “…refused to that’s what I heard,” the maid said.
  • “Come again. Did I hear you right?” the guard asked.
  • “Of course you heard me right. King Jamal was uninterested in our new bride here that he went to sleep in the study. I swear I saw it with my own eyes while on my shift.”
  • “Wow.”
  • “I have always known that this new one was the very wrongest of choices. I mean, think of it, three noble women had died trying to wed our king and somehow they want an inferior breed to suddenly wed the king and make him an heir. Those past three were of noble wolf blood, what sort of blood is this Methis made of?”
  • “That’s a very treasons statement to make. You could get yourself in trouble for saying these things. You might be executed,” warned the guard.
  • The maid laughed. “Piss off. You are the only person I have told so if I get in trouble, I know it’s you. Besides, everyone hears whispers it, if they wanted to execute the whisperers, there would be no one left to fend for the king or protect the palace.”
  • “Believe me King Jamal would be willing to pay that price any day if it would get him away from this new partner,” the guard joked and they both laughed.
  • I could hardly believe my ears. That was not what happened that night. Part of me wanted to burst out in the scene and set things straight. Who started this rumour? It pissed me. But to what end will that be? If I were to argue against the rumour. At least now I knew why the resentment against me today existed. I had displeased their king. What displeased the King displeased them all.
  • I finally made my way to the kitchen. There was no one there, not as much as even a chef. The two serving girls who were there exited the moment they saw me. I did not care any way. I could make myself my own breakfast, and that was exactly what I planned to do.
  • I searched every cubboard I could reach, I looked on all the counters in the kitchen but not once did I see any ingredient or even a pot. The only logical explanation was that this particular kitchen was no longer in use as this massive place would definitely be able to sport more than one kitchen. Or, they emptied it on purpose as punishment for me.
  • Tired of all the petty game, I went out to source for food on my own. One good thing about living in a castle was that money was never a problem. So after a quick search, I was able to find some gold coins. I did not know how much they were truly worth or what their purchasing power was, but at least they could probably get me a loaf of bread.
  • On my way out I met with Jamal. I tried to avoid him but he saw me first.
  • “What are you doing outside?” he asked.
  • “Going to buy food,” I replied.
  • He laughed. “No really what are you doing outside?”
  • After I explained what had happened earlier while omitting the part of the gossip, Jamal was furious. He barged back into the castle and assembled all the servants and guards. That was the loudest telling off I had ever heard. He yelled instructions and corrections loud at every one of them and demanded that breakfast be served immediately.
  • The speed at which breakfast was served surprised me. We sat at the table, I, Jamal, some of his elders and one missing seat where Conrad was supposed to be but he was absent. Probably taking care of some pack affairs I presumed. But I was too hungry to think of anything now so in a split second, I had emptied my plate of bacon and the entire table went silent.
  • “Never in my life had I seen a lady eat so uncourteous,” Jamal said, I face flushed red and he laughed.
