• The dress is stunning. I stand in front of the mirror, taking in the sight of myself in this off-shoulder, black evening gown. It’s not the kind of dress I usually wear—elegant, long, and sophisticated. I feel a bit out of my comfort zone, but there’s something empowering about it too.
• The jewellery they bought for me is beautiful, though I’m not entirely comfortable wearing it. It felt like too much, but I didn’t want to seem ungrateful by refusing. It takes me ages to get ready, and I’m still worried about how I look. The dark bags under my eyes are only slightly hidden, despite the layers of makeup I applied to cover them.
