Chapter 2 I Want A Divorce
- Laura's POV
- "What do you mean by that, Laura." His voice was terse and his face grim.
- His eyes sparkled with an intensity that was far too frightening. I could detect the hint of danger that lay beneath the surface. It made me want to buckle, to submit to the force of his power. Like I've always done.
- But I wouldn't!
- I've had enough these past three years, submitting to him every single time and letting him treat me the way he wanted without complaining.
- Taking a calm breath, I levelled my gaze on his. "I said I want a divorce!"
- The coldness of his hazel orbs was enough to freeze hell and it made me shiver down to my bones as I felt as though my soul was being sucked away.
- He suddenly cackled with laughter. "Smart girl." He breathed. "Sarah is back and you already figured we'll have to get a divorce. Unfortunately, I'm the Lycan king. and we can't just get a divorce without the rejection ritual. So, I'm afraid you'll have to continue your Luna duties till the goddess of blood festival."
- His face was void of any emotion as he spoke and I felt a slight ache in my heart. The divorce wasn't going to affect him in any way. He wasn't even going to feel any pain when our mate's bond is finally severed.
- This was what he wanted! He must have already been tired of me but had been putting up with me.
- The lumps in my throat were already rising in my mouth and I tried to hold the tears back. I shifted my gaze to his face and realized he was studying my stomach.
- Before I could speak, he was already saying something.
- "I heard you lost the baby." He said as he trained his gaze back on my face. "I'm not going to punish you for it since I have a child now. So, all you have to do is wait till the festival and we'll get a divorce then so that Sarah can take her place as Mrs Shawn."
- "Punish me? You think you have the right to punish me? I'm in pains, Julian!"
- He moved closer to me. "I have every right to punish you for losing the Lycan king's child. What you did is as grave as murder!" He bellowed.
- "But, I'll let it slide!"
- He didn't wait for me to say anything else before he turned to leave. As I watched him leave, I couldn't stop the tears from sliding through the corners and landing on my cheeks.
- To tell the truth, Sarah was a better and ideal wife to Julian than I was. She was of the elite class in the pack while I was just the disgraced daughter of a fallen alpha who had gotten his pack massacred overnight.
- I wiped at the corner of my eyes as I went out of the hospital gate. This shouldn't hurt this much but it still did. I should have known sooner or later that Sarah would come back but I had been too stubborn, thinking that the marriage would work out fine.
- Three years ago, after I found out that Julian was my mate, I had approached him and seduced him. At that time, I did it not just because he was my mate but because I needed his help because my pack had been falling apart then.
- And since he was the almighty Lycan king, he had helped me and everything was resolved fine and good. Julian had always been known for his aloof nature and indifference towards women and the rumor had said that the only person he loved was his first love, Sarah.
- But I had been too stubborn to listen back then and had slept with him. He had marked me and had surprisingly proposed to me but little did I know, it would lead to the downfall of my pack.
- A year after our marriage, Julian became a completely different person--- so cold and indifferent towards me and I realized that the life I had imagined and fantasized about with him was only wishful thinking on my part.
- My pack was massacred overnight, leaving only my father seriously injured. That time, Sarah had also been taking a school program in my pack's college and she'd been affected by the massacre too.
- But when Julian had shown up, he had risked his life to save Sarah and had left me behind. But even then, I hadn't stopped loving him. Not even when I found out that the massacre had been orchestrated by him. I had simply just swallowed down the hurt and had kept on loving him.
- But now to repay me for everything I had endured and my decision to him, he brought Sarah back.
- My phone beeped with a notification, jolting me from my straying thoughts. A text popped up and a sigh involuntarily left my mouth when I read it.
- "Hello, Mrs Shawn. This is Crescent Moon Pack's general hospital. Your father's condition has suddenly deteriorated and immediate treatment is required!"
- I needed no further warning as I raced back inside the hospital. I walked to the office of the doctor in charge of Dad and barged in.
- He was surprised to see me but a smile quickly spread across his lips. "Good day, Luna." He greeted me politely.
- "What is wrong with my dad?"
- The doctor's face clouded a bit before he motioned for me to sit down. I did as he asked, watching him snake a hand through his hair.
- He cleared his throat. "Since the beginning of this month, the hospital has not received any payment from you, so we've not been able to treat him."
- "So what exactly happened?" Urgency and fear laced my words.
- "As a result of him not receiving the proper treatment, he had a panic attack and he's in a vegetative state now. I'm afraid we'd have to ask the Lycan king for help!"
- I jerked off my seat in horror as my throat clogged and tears clouded my eyes. That was definitely the last option I would take.
- Last year, after I had found out I had been pregnant, I had tried to make some findings about why Julian had done what he did to my pack.
- I found out that Dad had done something terrible to him. Although I couldn't find out what exactly Dad did to him, one thing I knew for sure was that Dad was his greatest enemy and he would stop at nothing to have him dead.
- But when Dad was injured and our pack was engulfed in fire, I had no choice but to sneak him into the pack's general hospital.
- My heart thumped in my chest and my fingers went numb as my ears rang. I felt a panic attack creeping in on me.
- "We can't do that!" I choked on my tears
- He glanced at me. "I really don't understand why you are keeping this from the Lycan king. The only person who can help you is the hospital's director and--" he trailed off as he checked his wristwatch.
- "He should be leaving the hospital any moment from now and if you want to see him, you have to go now!"
- I needed no further warning as I dashed out of the office. Luckily, I bumped right into the hospital's director.
- I held his hands.
- "How may I help you, Luna?" He asked.
- "It's about my father. If you could just give me till next month to pay the bills. I really---"
- He cut me off politely. "Luna, I'm really sorry, but this is above my power. This can only be done if it's coming directly from the Lycan king himself."
- Left with no other option, I fell flat on my knees with a loud thud, attracting the surrounding patients' attention. I didn't mind anyway.
- "Please, just do this for me this one last time." I pleaded desperately.
- A derisive laughter made me spin around only to find myself staring into the very nemesis of my existence.
- Sarah.
- She regarded me with disgust. "Luna, isn't it so shameful to see you on your knees begging your subordinate?"
- My face flushed with embarrassment as I realized everyone now had their eyes on me. I rose slowly and gave her a warning smile.
- "Who I kneeel to has nothing to do with you, Sarah!"
- She scoffed. "You must be really bent on disgracing the king. Have you no shame at all? You couldn't even successfully give him a child but here you are, going down on your knees before an ordinary doctor. Are you begging him to sleep with you like you did Julian three years ago?"
- I ignored her hurtful words and turned to the director now. "Please, help me out!"
- He glanced at Sarah and she must have given him a secret sign because he shook his head firmly. "No, Luna. I'm afraid you'll have to tell the Lycan king about it."
- With that, he left, leaving me to wallow in my utter helplessness and despair. I turned to leave but Sarah's voice stopped me.
- "Hmm, not so fast, Luna. Did you just do the abominable by bringing your father into the pack?"
- Blood drained from my face as I felt my knees go soft. A sharp retort was on my tongue but emotions clogged my throat.
- "Did you bring your father to my pack?" Julian's cold voice permeated the lobby like a thick smoke and I felt my heart freeze with fear.
