Chapter 2 Heartbreak
- Olina's accusation ripped through Clyde like a knife.
- Ignoring his throbbing body, he lunged to his feet, a plea erupting from his throat. "No, wait! It's not what you think! Dad, Mom, Odessa, please, you have to listen to my explanation!"
- A furious bellow from Odessa silenced him. "Shut your trap! 'Not what I think'? huh?"
- She roared, "Stop playing dumb! You lost control, didn't you? Did you try to hurt Olina? Would you have stopped if we hadn't gotten her call for help? You monster!"
- Fiona cradled Olina, her voice sharp with betrayal as she rebuked Clyde, "All these years, you fooled us. Such a convincing act – honest, hardworking. Who knew you held such darkness within you, targeting your sister-in-law?"
- Clyde's face turned ashen, his voice cracking. "No, I didn't..."
- Odessa's voice turned to steel. "Get the hell out of here, you creep! Don't you dare even try to talk!"
- Olina, her voice trembling with fear, spoke up. "Mom, Dad, you saw it yourselves. If we let this monster stay, I'll be next! Dad, we need to get rid of him, immediately! He's a danger to all of us!"
- Clyde, finally catching on, realized this whole thing was a set-up to get rid of him.
- Olina had always wanted him gone, but previously, it was only through biting comments. This time, she really went for the jugular.
- His face, which had gone from shocked to worried, now sank with exhaustion and despair.
- Marvin, who was fuming before, went silent after Olina's outburst. He looked hesitant. "Kick him out? But… your grandpa arranged the marriage himself!"
- "Dad, Grandpa's been losing it for years. His dementia's getting worse! How can we trust anything he said? Seriously! I can't, and don't want to be stuck with this freak any longer!" Odessa shot back, furious.
- Fiona joined the fray, glaring at Marvin. "Marv, come on! Are your dad's crazy ramblings more important than your daughters' happiness and well-being?"
- Marvin's face contorted in a struggle. "But your grandpa said, you remember… the guy he made a deal with? Some legendary figure, supposedly all-powerful, and apparently the entire Dove family's future depends on him, so we have to treat his grandson with respect."
- "A legendary super-being? Seriously?" Olina scoffed through tears. "Dad, are you losing it too? It's the 21st century, not the Dark Ages! Grandpa probably had dementia way before they diagnosed it, and you're buying his crazy story? I bet it was just some delusion he had back then!"
- Marvin winced. Maybe Olina had a point. He remembered when his father first told him about Clyde's family background. It sounded ridiculous then and even more so now.
- And with Clyde marrying into the family for over three years, besides doing household chores and cooking, he seemed useless at everything else, just leeching off the Dove family without adding any value whatsoever.
- Frankly, Marvin had long been fed up with it.
- Odessa and Olina, the Dove twins, were renowned as the most captivating beauties in King's Hollow.
- Affluent families were lining up, eager to marry into the Dove fortune. But then, three years ago, Leopold, in a move that defied all logic, married Odessa off to some nobody.
- This decision turned the Doves into a laughingstock. It was no longer a matter of mere embarrassment; their entire legacy was on the line.
- As Marvin wrestled with his thoughts, Clyde, lying on the floor, watched their faces contorted in disgust. He felt utterly useless, exhausted by the whole situation. Enough was enough.
- With a sigh, Clyde stood up, a hint of self-mockery in his eyes. "Odessa," he announced, "I'm divorcing you. As of now, we're over."
- Without another word, Clyde turned and walked away, leaving the Doves stunned into silence.
