Chapter 39 Cake Controversy
- "Isn't it enough that our family took in Angela, gave her a place to stay, and a meal to eat? Why should we buy her special food and drinks?" Emilia's voice was filled with disdain as she continued her tirade. "What's the point of having a cake for a birthday? That cake wasn't cheap. Hecate, why on earth did you go and buy a cake for no reason? Isn't that just wasting money? We barely have enough as it is, and if we don't save, how are we supposed to get by in the future?"
- Hecate's smile wavered, discomfort creeping into her expression. She hadn't expected her mother to be so blunt, so harsh, especially in front of Angela. She hurried to explain, "Mom, the cake wasn't bought. It's just that the store made an extra one today, and the manager didn't want it to go to waste, so he let me bring one home."
- "Yes, Mom, we didn't spend any money on this cake, so there's no waste," Donald chimed in, trying to smooth over the situation with a cheerful tone.
