Chapter 15 A Despicable Couple

  • "I've noticed you are getting more brazen by the day. Do you really think a money-grubbing woman like you will get a second glance from me?"
  • Nelson was amused by the accusation.
  • Sadie snapped, "Am I wrong? The day you came back, you even had Audrey put on an act with you. You even faked an engagement just to piss me off, right?
  • "Do you think you deserve Audrey as a debt-ridden pauper who owes a massive debt and has no way to repay it? And now you show up here and claim you have some business to attend to? You're just stalking me, hoping to reconcile, aren't you?
  • "Let me give you some advice. You better give up on that idea. My heart belongs to Warren now!"
  • Sadie lifted her head like a proud peacock. She was confident in her charm. Sadie was sure Nelson, this simp, would resort to stalking her in a desperate bid to reconcile.
  • "Yes, you're right. There's nothing between Audrey and me. Are you done? If you did, you should get lost!"
  • Nelson couldn't stand Sadie's self-righteous expression and said it with irritation.
  • One day, when his clinic prospered. Nelson knew this opportunistic woman would regret her actions.
  • "What's the matter? Did I hit a nerve?"
  • "Have you seen this business license in my hand? Warren knows I returned from studying abroad and am skilled in medicine. He didn't want me working for others, so he helped me set up a clinic. We just issued the business license today."
  • Sadie waved the newly issued business license and hugged Warren's arm intimately. She continued to sneer and mock, "Nelson, you are nothing compared to Warren!
  • "I just regret not breaking up with you sooner and wasting years of my youth on you!"
  • Warren also spat out angrily. He cursed, "Nelson, you make me sick.
  • "Didn't I warn you not to bother Sadie again? Now that you follow her around? Do you want me to break your legs?
  • "And why would Audrey put on an act with you? Did you get any dirt on her? You're digging your own grave. An aristocratic lady like Audrey isn't someone you can manipulate with petty tricks."
  • Nelson's disgust was evident, and he continued, "Did any of you see me following you two? I'm here to get my business license, too."
  • As Nelson spoke, Linette handed him a form. Her tone was cold as she spoke.
  • "Check the details and sign the papers. Your business license will be ready today."
  • "And take your quarrel outside. What did you take this place? This is the Department of Commerce, not a market!"
  • "I'm telling you, the top leader is visiting today. If you damage the reputation of my department, I will report you all and ensure your blacklisting!
  • Warren and Linette were both stunned. They didn't expect Nelson to be genuinely here for business. How was that possible?
  • "Did you make a mistake? Nelson, isn't your family bankrupt and deep in debt? How do you have the money to start a business? Did you take out a high-interest loan? Are you out of your mind?"
  • Sadie was shocked.
  • "I know without the need to guess. This guy must've taken a high-interest loan. No one else would lend him money!
  • "He's always dreaming of getting rich, but he's just a liability that's good at nothing. He'll end up losing everything and getting his limbs broken by loan sharks."
  • Warren sneered and ridiculed.
  • Someone as useless as Nelson was better off working a blue-collar job. Yet he dares to dream of starting a business. He's just setting himself up for misery!
  • "Hey, Nelson. Are you going to open a clinic? You didn't even finish college when you joined the military. You don't have the qualifications to practice medicine. Do you think you can open a clinic? Is this a joke?"
  • Sadie's sharp eyes caught the details on Nelson's form, on writted he intended to start up a clinic. She couldn't help but mock him.
  • Honestly, she didn't want to see Nelson make progress. If he succeeded, it would prove that leaving him for Warren was a mistake and showed her poor judgment in men.
  • "Hey! Look at this loser! He thinks he can open a clinic. Are you planning to sell fake medicine to make fast money? After all, your father did it. You have the experience!
  • "I have to report you as a responsible citizen!"
  • Warren laughed hysterically and became more brazen with his speech.
  • "You just signed your death warrant!"
  • Nelson's anger surged as Warren insulted his father. The pen nearly snapped in his grip as his eyes blazed with rage.
  • "What's wrong? A loser like you can't handle the truth? Don't I have the right to report you for selling fake medicine?"
  • Warren provoked him.
  • "Enough, all of you! What nonsense is this? Take your rubbish outside!"
  • Linette finally lost her temper. She was already in a miserable mood due to her menopause.
  • "Who do you think you're yelling at? Do you know who I am? I'm Warren, from the Hamptons. My uncle is the Department of Commerce director. One word from me, and you're out of a job!"
  • Warren was enraged; he glared at Linette in dissatisfaction.
  • "Oh, Mr. Hampton! My apologies, please continue."
  • The change in Linette's attitude was stark. She began to bow and scrape to appease Warren.
  • "I can't believe the Department of Commerce entertains anyone nowadays! Do you even know who this guy is? His family is heavily indebted and has gone bankrupt. Their reputation is highly questionable. Who knows where he swindled some money from; now he wants to open a clinic?" Warren accused, and his voice was dripping with contempt.
  • "If you dare issue him a business license and his clinic ends up selling fake medicine or causing someone's death, don't think you'll be off the hook!"
  • Warren threatened.
  • "But, Mr. Hampton, even if his credibility is in question, it doesn't affect his eligibility to obtain a business license. My department doesn't have such unwritten rules," Linette said.
  • She felt as though she was in a challenging situation.
  • "How dare you talk back! I'm warning you. If you give him that license, I'll report you to my uncle. You'll face the consequences!"
  • Warren threatened further.
  • He disliked Nelson and was determined to make things difficult for him. Warren would stop at nothing to make sure Nelson couldn't obtain the license today.
  • "You should leave now. Your conditions don't meet the requirements for a business license. Don't bother to come back again."
  • After considering the pros and cons, Linette said it coldly.
  • "Why? Just because he threatened you, you're not going to issue me the business license? Are all public officials at the Department of Commerce this cowardly, only bullying the weak and fearing the powerful?" Nelson demanded, his eyes blazing with indignation.
  • Nelson seethed with anger.
  • "If your uncle was the director, I would have handed over the license to you without a second thought!
  • "Do I have to spell it out? Get lost! Blame yourself for offending Mr. Hampton; don't drag me into this!"
  • Linette replied impatiently, not wanting to risk her job over Nelson.
  • "Nelson, didn't you hear her? Get lost! How dare a broke loser like you mess with me? I'll make sure you regret it!
  • "As long as I'm around, you can forget about getting that business license. My uncle is the director of the Department of Commerce, after all!"
  • Warren spoke arrogantly, wrapping his arm around Sadie's waist.
  • In reality, this so-called uncle was just a distant relative whom he had only met a few times. But it didn't stop him from flaunting the connection.
  • "Nelson, do you see the difference between you and Warren? Just one word from him can make it impossible for you to do business in Cloudhaven. How can you compare with Warren?" Sadie taunted, enjoying Nelson's misfortune.
  • "So, forget about getting the business license today. It's your fault to upset Warren."
  • She continued, gloating.
  • "How about this? If you really want the license, you need to get down on your knees and bark like a dog. Maybe if I'm amused, I'll consider it!" Warren said.
  • He changed his tactic, as he had not yet finished toying with Nelson.
  • "Do you think I won't hit you?"
  • Nelson's eyes were filled with chilliness. His fists clenched tightly, as he was genuinely ready to beat the crap out of Warren.
  • This vile couple was pushing him to his limit.
  • "Oh! So, the loser wants to fight now?"
  • Warren mocked. He then called out to the security guards at the door, "Guards, come here! Someone's causing trouble. Get him out!"
  • One of the guards replied with a stern expression, "The top leader is here to inspect our department. They're right outside. You all better behave, or none of us will be able to handle the consequences!"
