• I walked out of the school, with Mara following me in silence. She hadn't uttered a word since the hallway incident, so I was hopeful she would finally respond once we were alone.
• "Okay, start explaining!" I demanded, dropping my bag on the ground without caring that it might need cleaning when I got home.
