Chapter 8

  • Chapter 8
  • Adrianna's POV
  • I went out in search of my father. I knew my seeing him might not turn out well but I needed closure.
  • I looked everywhere I knew he could be, but he wasn't there. "Adrianna."
  • Amelia. I recognized her sarcastic voice from anywhere. Maybe if I don't respond, she'll give you and leave.
  • "Adrianna, you're finally back." She said, her voice sounding displeased.
  • "Yes I am, Amelia," I said, not turning to face her.
  • "I hope it's not dad you're going around searching for."
  • "And if he is?" I questioned her to see where she was going with this.
  • "Then you should know that he doesn't want to see you. He doesn't want anything to do with you. He only agreed to let you down because Mom was sick.
  • The fact that you're back doesn't change anything. As you can see, he isn't here. He doesn't want to see your face."
  • I felt my heart shatter. I didn't know why I fell for this all the time. I had heard of this over and over again but I still give myself hope and it ends up being shattered.
  • Anyway, I was used to it so I wouldn't let it get to me that much.
  • "Seems like you brought company." I looked back to see if Jackson and Hayley were done with my mom.
  • She was referring to Shawn who was coming with Steven. I didn't know if Amelia knew Shawn just like Steven.
  • Shawn came forward, Hi. I'm Shawn, Adrianna's boyfriends."
  • You have got to be kidding me. I didn't want any of them to know that I was dating Shawn. I didn't want them to think I was in a serious relationship.
  • "Seriously?" Amelia asked doubtfully with a frown on her face. Shawn nodded. "Wow, Adrianna. You outdid yourself this time." She mocked.
  • I looked at Steven and he wasn't shocked at all. So, either Shawn told him or he was really smart. And I knew Steven wasn't really smart.
  • I began to hear the sound of cars driving into the compound. More like tires. If it was not a visitor, it would certainly be a dad.
  • "Looks like Dad is back," Amelia said. "Maybe he will be happy to see you."
  • She was getting on my nerves. She was trying all possible means to annoy me
  • Within a few minutes, the door was pushed. My father walked inside. He looked the same. The face which shouted strictly to everyone and his grey hair.
  • I waited for his eyes to meet mine. When it finally did, nothing. No emotions, no change in expression. It acted like he didn't see me at all.
  • "Hey, Dad." Amelia greeted, waving at him.
  • "Hey, dear. I just came from Fredrick's house, everything worked out." He said.
  • Fedrick? After rejecting me, he was still involved with my family.
  • "O my God?" She jubilated.
  • "Yes. So get ready, it's tonight."
  • He told her.
  • "Okay, Dad."
  • " Is your mom in her room?" He asked her while pointing towards her room.
  • "Yes, she is," Amelia answered.
  • "Okay." He said and headed to Mom's room.
  • I noticed Steven didn't acknowledge his presence. Neither did He greet him.
  • Maybe something must have happened.
  • My father acted like I wasn't there. He saw me, I knew he did. Our eyes met. I guess he hasn't changed at all. He still saw me the same way he did before.
  • "I guess coming back wasn't such a good idea," Amelia stated, right after Dad left.
  • "Amelia, just leave her alone. You got invited to a party, shouldn't you be getting prepared." Steven butted in.
  • Amelia smiled. " Oh yeah, I have a lot to say to you but I will do that later, I don't have the time. I have a party to attend with my betrothed, Fredrick, so I'm not going to waste much time on you." She said.
  • "Betrothed?" I wanted to make sure I heard the right thing.
  • "Yes, betrothed to Fredrick. Remember him?" She asked.
  • I could not forget the rude man who rejected me solely based on my appearance.
  • " You're betrothed to Fredrick?" I asked, just wanting to hear something else. Maybe I heard wrong.
  • "Shocked? You shouldn't be. Guys like that are always meant for girls like me. I'm just wondering how you ended up with him." She said pointing to Shawn.
  • She always made me feel I wasn't good enough for anyone.
  • ” I'm going to see Mom, Steven" I ignored her and started walking.
  • "I'll come with you," Shawn said and followed me.
  • I got inside the room to see Dad seated with Mom. The kids were playing around. My dad didn't seem to care for them.
  • I went inside the room. "Adrianna, have you seen your dad?" She asked.
  • I didn't know the right response to give. Whether to say I didn't see him. He would just find another reason to hate me.
  • "Hey, Dad." I greeted him.
  • He didn't respond. I looked at my mom and she gave me a sorry look.
  • I decided not to care anymore. I was still at the door but I stepped in to take the kids. Shawn stepped in also. "Shawn, my patents. Mom, dad, Shawn. My…my boyfriend." They both looked at me in surprise. Even my dad didn't waste time turning back.
  • "Good day, ma, Sir." Shawn greeted them.
  • "Oh, don't be so formal. You can call me Mrs Richardson." She requested. "It's nice to meet you, Shawn."
  • Shawn said. "It's nice to meet you too. I hope you get well soon." Shawn prayed.
  • "Mom, I want to take the kids to take their bath, “I said, lifting them.
  • "It's fine. We had a lot to say today. I feel so much better after talking to them." She smiled. She did look a little bit better.
  • "I hope you will be attending the party?" My mom asked and my dad shunned her to keep quiet.
  • "No, It won't be necessary. I have things to do. I have to settle in the kids." I said. It wasn't exactly a lie. I did have all those to do but I didn't want to attend the party.
  • "The maids can do that for you. There's no problem with that. You just have to attend."
  • My dad stood up and left without saying a word. I knew he wasn't comfortable with the conversation.
  • "Mom…" I tried to say.
  • "I knew that you didn't really forgive me."
  • "No, I have. I just…"
  • I couldn't think of any more excuses to give.
  • "Just come, Adri. You can even come with Shawn as your date. Please…" S
  • he begged.
  • "Fine." I said.
  • "Are we really going to a partyparty, mom" Hayley asked while staring at me.
  • "I guess so."
