Chapter 9 Riding Shotgun

• Quinley understood Winifred's intentions. In her previous life, when she had made the decision to divorce Joshua, Winifred had been the main instigator. At the time, Quinley believed Winifred was looking out for her best interests—until the divorce happened. It was only upon discovering the ambiguous messages Winifred had sent Joshua that she realized the full extent of Winifred's duplicity. With her arms crossed and her chin held high, Quinley asserted, “He came to pick me up!”
• Winifred was taken aback; she hadn't anticipated this kind of response from Quinley.
• She sneakily glanced at Joshua, noticing his eyebrows slightly raised and his piercing gaze fixed on Quinley. Winifred felt extremely embarrassed. Biting her lip, she stammered, “Quinley... but we go to the same school. Joshy is just being kind by offering me a ride too. Do you really want me to walk to school alone? We're besties, aren't we?”
