- I looked around the table, taking in the myriad of expressions that flickered across the faces of my board members—surprise, disbelief, intrigue. It was a bold move on Monique's part, and a part of me found it laughable, almost absurd. I nearly burst out in laughter to mask the tension that was suffocating the air. Instead, I forced myself to keep my expression neutral, but my heart raced, a wild drum echoing in the silence.
- "What are you talking about, Monique?" I asked, my voice steady, but inside I was spinning. Was this some kind of elaborate joke? Surely she couldn't be serious. The memories flooded back, fragments of our time together swirling chaotically in my mind.
