Chapter 5 More Threats
- Mary Davies
- I took in air, inhaling it in a rush, I sobbed quietly. I was weak and I hated the fact that I was weak. I was trembling, my fingers shook and my lips trembled.
- "What is happening here?" The voice repeated again. I turned around to face a tall man with a rounded framed glasses.
- "Young lady, are you okay?" The man asked worriedly. I nodded my head in response, I could see Hawk giving me a death stare with the corner of my eyes.
- "Hawk, care to tell me what just happened in here?" The man asked.
- "Nothing, I was just getting familiar with the scholarship student." He replied, rolling his eyes.
- "Oh! She is the scholarship student. The smart lady who blew our records off. Come forward."The man who I assumed must be a teacher beckoned.
- My legs felt like jelly as I walked, I got the front of the class and at that moment I felt like disappearing. All eyes were on me, and I hate attention.
- "Introduce yourself to the class," the man said.
- "Hi... hi... hi... hi.... " I stuttered.
- "Oh my goodness, she is so lame." a voice said and the whole class laughed.
- "Hi.... hi... hi..... hi" someone mimicked me. "Are you about to sing or something, dummy?"
- I sank my teeth into my lips, bowing my head. I was finding it extremely difficult to say something.
- "Quiet everyone," The teacher ordered. The class became quiet.
- "Hi, I am Mary Davies." I said with a low voice.
- "It is nice meeting you Maria Davies, I am Mr Anderson and I will be teaching you guys Literature."
- "You can go back to your seats now."
- I walked back to my seat, carefully avoiding the legs that were stretched out to make me trip and fall down flat on my face.
- I avoided eye contact with Hawk, I knew he was watching me as I took my seat. My hands shook uncontrollably, I tried controlling it, but it was beyond me.
- "Bring out your literary texts, Pride and Prejudice." Mr Anderson said out loud.
- Suddenly I felt a breath on my neck, the smell of cologne filled my nostrils. I stopped breathing, scared of what might happen.
- "I'm going to make you pay for this, trust me. You will forever regret this." Hawk whispered into my ears, then I felt something wet on my neck. His tongue, he just licked my neck.
- ****
- It was hard to focus, I touched my neck for the tenth time today, or was it the thirteenth time, I was not keeping counts actually. But it was hard to forget the fact that Hawk licked my neck. I shook my head, it wasn't real, it can't be real.
- "Are you okay?" My mum asked, raising a brow up.
- "Yes mum, I am fine, what makes you think I am not?" I replied, shrugging my shoulders.
- "Oh, the fact that you have been lost in your own thoughts since you got back from school."
- "And you have been cutting one single onions for the past ten minutes. We are not going to sleep here tonight, but if you keep working at this slow pace, we might end up sleeping right here in the kitchen."
- I looked at the onions in my hand, that was true. I still have more onions to cut and I wasn't even done slicing the one I was holding.
- "I am sorry about that mum," I replied, hurrying up.
- "Just focus Mary and stop zoning out." She scolded.
- "Are you really sure you are okay?" She asked.
- "Yes mum, very sure." I replied.
- "You know you can talk to me about anything right?" She probed.
- "Absolutely, I know." I replied, giving her a smile.
- ****
- Jessica wasn't at the table this evening, she must really hate mum's food for her to miss dinner. Maybe she just hates our present.
- "Thank you Anna," Mrs Andrews said, giving mum a thank-you look. I scoffed, I felt tempted to hiss out loud, for some certain reasons I didn't just like Mrs Andrews, she seems to me like she was pretending. The other side of her must be really bad.
- "Oh Mary, you won't be seeing my son today, he should be back by now. Maybe tomorrow," she said to me smiling.
- I wanted to tell her right into her face that, I didn't care about her son whom she fancies so much. But I kept mute, I don't understand why she badly wants me to meet her son.
- I was not intending to give her a response, but mum's hard glare made me say something.
- "No problem ma'am." I replied, forcing a smile, while giving my mum the 'are you satisfied expression'
- "Hope you're enjoying your stay here in Beverly Dale?"
- "Beverly Dale is a very cool town." She added, I faced palm mentally.
- "Layla, can you please stop talking. Table manners please." Mr Andrews said, raising his voice.
- Mrs Andrews kept quiet immediately, I took that as a sign for me to leave. I turned around and my face met with a hard wall, I stepped back, rubbing my head in pain. The wall shockingly had legs, and those legs were wearing a pair of expensive looking white Nike sneakers.
- That really hurts, I looked up gradually, wondering who the intruder is, and my eyes met with a familiar set of black eyes. I gasped loudly, stepping back.
- "No, it can't be." I mumbled under my breath.
- What was he doing here, what the fuck was Hawk doing here in the Andrews mansion.
- His scowled looking at me with disgust, his gaze roved over me from head to toe, I still had the kitchen apron tied to my neck and waist. I looked a mess, I don't need a mirror to confirm that.
- "What are you doing here?" I asked, my lips quivering. He smirked, glaring at me.
- "What am I doing in my house?" He asked, scoffing.
- His house! No! No! No! This can't be happening.
- "I should be asking you that same question."
- "What the fuck are you doing in my house, scholarship student?"
