Chapter 4

  • Caitlyn's POV
  • "Seriously, what are you going to do?" Leona asked after I told her everything between Talon and me.
  • "I-I... don't know," I replied, pursing my lips nervously. Unprepared for all of this, I couldn't help but feel a wave of panic at the thought of a life growing inside me.
  • "Have you... thought of giving up on this baby?" Leona's voice was deep after a long silence.
  • Leona's words struck my chest like a heavy fist. My heartbeat quickened and the sound around me began to blur.
  • "Are you okay?" Leona asked, her voice cutting through my haze.
  • "Yeah! Sure!" I responded immediately, trying to convince her that I was all right.
  • “Listen, this is not your fault," Leona said. " but we need to take the consequences seriously. Talon’s brutal in nature. I’m worried that he may not accept you and the baby. You don't want the baby to grow up without a father, do you?"
  • I understood Leona’s concerns. She had lost her father when she was very young. She knew very well how life was like for a child growing up without a father.
  • "Thank you, Leona. I know you want the best for me. But somehow I think Talon is not as cruel as rumors have it." I turned to look at Leona.
  • “Stop dreaming, my princess! It's just like when you were infatuated with Jayce before. To people like them, woman’s just a disposable plaything. They don't care about your feelings at all!" Leona spoke to me with indignation, disappointed that I still had delusions in man.
  • "Listen, the happy picture you're having in your mind now is just an unrealistic dream. The harsh truth is that once it’s found that you’re carrying Talon's child, you'll be cast out from the pack as a rogue. Even if you survive, you and the baby will face an even more difficult life."
  • "Caitlyn, it must be tough to bear all this alone. But I’ll always be by your side. Remember, we're best friends."
  • Leona flashed her signature smile as I nodded firmly.
  • "Well, it's a rough day today. Now go back home and take a hot bath." Leona sent me home, and then disappeared around the street corner.
  • Just as I turned to go home, a sudden dull footstep sounded behind me.
  • "What are you doing here?" I frowned in disgust after turning back and finding it to be Jayce.
  • "Look, I'm sorry for everything." Jayce disregarded the disgust in my eyes and game me a smile instead. "But believe it or not, since the day I met you, I had fallen in love with you. It’s just that, as the future Alpha, there are things out of my control."
  • Jayce pretended to be sincere as he moved towards me slowly.
  • "Do you expect me to forgive you when you abandoned me only to bond with another girl?" I looked at Jayce and couldn't help but sneer.
  • "You’re a human, Caitlyn. You’ll never understand how cruel the werewolf world can be. I made this decision because that’s the best for the pack. As the future Alpha, this is my duty." Jayce looked into my eyes when telling this grand lie. He might still see me as a naive girl I used to be.
  • "Stop it, Jayce! A strong Alpha would never play these dirty tricks. Don't justify your cheap deeds with grand excuses!" I said coldly to Jayce as another wave of vomiting from pregnancy rose in my stomach.
  • "Caitlyn, what's wrong? Are you all right? Let me help you inside." Jayce offered immediately, with concern in his voice.
  • "Get lost. Don't put on that fake act." I gave him a cold glare, deciding to walk past him.
  • "Caitlyn, I know you're still mad at me, but believe me when I say you’re the only one that I love. Even if I can't make you my Luna, we could still be happy together. I’m pretty sure that you’ll get along with Morgana. Plus, we’re expecting our baby now."
  • Jayce's earnest gaze seemed like he was about to propose, but his words could no longer arouse anything in me. This jerk even thought the baby’s his!
  • “Clap!” With a crisp sound, I gave a sharp slap in Jayce's face.
  • "Get out of my life right now! I’d never share you with Morgana even if you make me a rogue!"
  • I shouted at Jayce, who looked shocked by my action.
  • "You bitch! How dare you hit me?" Jayce growled, his eyes widening in anger. He grabbed my wrist with a tight grip and raised the other hand.
  • I could see his wolf was gonna take control. Closing my eyes out of instinct, I expected a hard slap in my face.
  • But nothing happened after quite a few seconds. Jayce's hand never made landed on my face.
  • When I opened my eyes slowly, a strikingly handsome face came into my sight.
