Chapter 12 Online Unrest
- It was their first time participating in the filming of a live reality program and problems followed one after the other. They were suddenly confronted by a problem that normally would only be seen behind the scenes, catching everyone unprepared. Man Yu originally thought that everyone would unhesitatingly be united on the matter of saving a life and was really surprised by certain people's opinion on this matter.
- "Everyone, listen to me. I don't think we should invest any more energy on this child."
- She stood with a hand on her hip, with the stage presence she had when she performed violin on stage, sleeves rolled up, intending to conduct a "lecture". Her soft but strong voice instantly resounded throughout the tent.
- "Everyone's resources are limited. We still have to head towards the next target destination in this nasty weather. We can't even guarantee our own safety. Taking this child with us will undoubtedly put everyone's lives at risk."
- "Also, Man Yu has already given this child treatment. We've already helped him as much we can. Why don't we hand this child over to a cameraman to look after, and they can wait here for the rescue team to arrive. The rest of us can set off and continue filming the show."
- When Man Yu heard her words, her face immediately collapsed. Ignoring her leg injury, she struggled up, stood with a hand on her hips just like Nie Suhuan and retorted, "What do you mean by that? You're telling us to abandon this child and leave?"
- Nie Suhuan was tongued-tied for a moment, and then raised her eyebrows, "That's not what I mean. If that's how you interpret it then there's nothing I can do. I'm just stating the most effective plan right now, for us and for this child.
- Man Yu asked, "You think that this child will be safe this way? The rescue team is going to take two days to arrive. The cameramen also don't have the skills to survive in the wild. Also, we're in a thunderstorm right now. If anything happens again, will they be safe?"
- Big K stood up, "I think we should listen to Suhuan. Our team doesn't have many resources left to begin with. We've already used up a lot to save this child... We'll really be in trouble if we drag on like this."
- Small K also stood up to take Nie Suhuan's side, "Yeah, if worse comes to worst, we'll leave a few more staff here. There shouldn't be any more accidents."
- Man Yu was indignant. What were these people thinking? They were actually treating a human life as a joke. Not a single one of them were willing to save the child. The only thing they cared about was filming the program.
- She forced down her anger. A thin layer of mist coated her pupils. She said between clenched teeth, "Fine. You guys don't want to bring him, then I will."
- Nie Suhuan said in concern, "Man Yu, don't push yourself."
- Man Yu didn't answer. She exited the tent to go collect her belongings, completely disregarding the people and cameras inside the tent.
- The tent fell silent for several seconds. Everyone looked at each other and didn't say a word. There was a complicated feeling in their hearts.
- Kou Yan, who had been silent during the entire exchange, spoke up, "I suggest that the two teams share resources until we reach the next supply point.
- The KK Duo were dumbstruck. The staff members looked at each other in dismay.
- Nie Suhuan immediately reacted, "But Yan, we can't just randomly change the rules like this."
- Kou Yan touched his chin. His eyes were a bit dark. He looked like he was thinking about something. He then asked the director, "Director, is there a clause in the rules that prohibits sharing resources?"
- The director thought it over and said, "There's no problem. Helping and supporting one another is a concept our show should be promoting. Do what you want."
- Nie Suhuan still had something to say but Small K excitedly cut her off, "Kou Yan, that's great. Thank you guys so much!"
- Kou Yan politely returned, "No problem. It's what we should be doing. Lets take a rest and then prepare to set out. I'll take my leave now," and strode out of the tent.
- Nie Suyuan was not willing to accept this arrangement. She walked up to the director and made it no secret that she thought that way, "Director, did you know that if a live program goes off track, it will face backlash from the audience?" After she spoke she peeked at the computer screen which was currently streaming the show and was delighted at what she saw. She hadn't expected that even the audience would side with her.
- Without waiting for Nie Suhuan to finish speaking, Big K and Small K ran out of the tent to find Man Yu who was in the middle of packing her stuff.
- Small K said, eager to share the news with her, "Sis, I have some good news. Kou Yan has decided to share their resources with our team! We can bring the child with us!"
- Man Yu's hands paused. She raised her head and asked doubtfully, "What did Nie Suhuan say?"
- Big K thought back, "Suhuan didn't seem too happy, when we left just now she was still discussing with the director about something..."
- She knew that that woman wouldn't been so kind. How could a person, who didn't even care about the life of a child, show pity towards people from another team because they didn't have supplies?
- Man Yu calmly continued to pack and said with slight persistence, "In a while, we'll set off and directly go find the next supply point. I've already mapped out the path."
- Small K asked, "We're not going to wait for Kou Yan's team? We still need to work together with them."
- Man Yu replied, "Not waiting. I insisted on taking the child with me, if I shamelessly go find them for help, I will be scorned by the viewers."
- Small K hesitated, "But what if we don't have enough supplies, what do we do..."
- Man Yu raised her head, her almond-shaped eyes were filled with confidence and determination, "I've already worked out where a water source is. Trust me. Nothing will go wrong."
- "But..."
- "No buts. Right now, we're a team. If you want to leave a good impression on the viewers, then do as I say."
- In the end, Small K made up his mind, "Okay, I believe you."
- After the three packed up their belongings and equipment, Big K carried the child on his back, and they went to the director. The child's complexion had improved but he was still unconscious.
- Small K spoke first, "Director, we've decided to set off now."
- The director was confused, "You're leaving already? You're not going to wait for Kou Yan and Suhuan's team?"
- Big K said, "We've decided to find a water source first, and then meet up with them."
- The director thought for a moment, and decided to respect their decision, "You guys decide for yourselves. Be sure to take care. But... before you go, Man Yu, there is something you need to know."
- Man Yu was puzzled, "What is it?"
- The director pointed at the computer screen. He moved to the side and motioned her to come over, "Come over to have a look."
- Man Yu went up to the computer, bent over, and looked at the screen with bemusement across her face.
- The screen was showing a replay of their discussion about whether they should leave the child behind or not. Man Yu and Nie Suhuan stood with their arms on their hips, each stating their reasons. The spectator's comments swooped across the screen.
- Man Yu pressed pause on the keyboard. The replay stopped at the split second she finished speaking. The screen was littered with all sorts of comments from the viewers.
- "Why is Man Yu trying to show off? She should just leave the child for the staff members to look after!"
- "I think that Huanhuan is right."
- "They're short on supplies but she still wants to be a hero. Isn't she biting off more than she can chew?"
- "Does Man Yu want to be popular so much that she's gone mad?"
- "Saving a child in order to become famous, she's despicable."
- ......
- The comments were all either criticizing Man Yu for trying to show off, or saying that Suhuan was being reasonable. There were comments are every kind, scathing and heated. Some comments directly swore at Man Yu, bashing her until she was a mass of bruises.
- Man Yu raised her eyebrows. Oh, so this sort of issue can arise during reality shows too. These people all think they should abandon that child? When all is said and done, the audience didn't understand the actual situation on site. Those who didn't understand the true situation, really thought that the show could do anything and had all the resources.
- Although she felt a bit unhappy that she was being bashed by the entire web, Man Yu decided she wouldn't waste her time getting mad at these keyboard warriors who lacked common sense.
- She slowly straightened up, and sighed, "I'll think of something."
- She walked up to Big K and softly stroked the child's soft and slightly curly brown hair. Her eyes were extremely gentle, and her tone was filled with resignation.
- "C'mon, let's go look for water."
