Chapter 11 Man Yu Is Injured
- With great effort, Man Yu steadied herself. As the storm raged around her, she laboriously opened her eyes. She seemed to have thought of something and suddenly turned her head around, and to her astonishment, her eyes met a pair of red and chilly black eyes.
- "Kou Yan?"
- Perhaps the day of sudden and chaotic events had paralyzed her nerves, or perhaps she was feeling a bit indisposed from being caught up in a storm, Man Yu's expression looked a bit lifeless. She turned back to look at the tall man protecting her. She moved her lips but unexpectedly didn't know what to say.
- "Are you okay?" Kou Yan's eyebrows were tightly knitted, trying hard to suppress the enormous panic in his heart.
- Man Yu's stared blankly for a few seconds. It was evident that she didn't notice that there was a faint tremble in the man's low voice.
- "I'm o-... hiss!" She was about to stand up using Kou Yan's arm as support when she was caught off guard by a sharp wave of pain on the skin of her lower right leg. Her body immediately went limp again before she had even steadied herself.
- "Sis, are you okay?!" Big K and Small K and the production crew rushed over, worry all over their faces.
- "Kou Yan? You're back!" Small K exclaimed in surprise as he looked at the person who was protecting Man Yu in his arms, and then quickly went forward to take the unconscious child.
- Big K originally wanted to go up and help Man Yu up but saw Kou Yan lower his head and wrap one arm around her waist. Kou Yan carefully extended his left arm to her knees, and then carried her in his arms, taking Man Yu by surprise. After a short cry of alarm, she involuntarily wrapped her arms around the man's neck.
- Seeing their series of actions, the KK Duo and the film crew were a bit stunned. Big K asked woodenly, "Kou Yan, is Sis... injured?"
- Kou Yan raised his eyes and expressionlessly asked, "Where's the medical kit?"
- "Ah... Oh! Follow me!" Big K snapped out of his daze. There was no time care about what just happened in front of him. He hastily brought Kou Yan to the tent a few meters away.
- When they reached the tent, Kou Yan carefully put Man Yu down. The frost on his face hadn't cleared yet. Without wasting any words, he started to tear the bottom of Man Yu's trousers.
- He rolled the trousers up to her knee, revealing a shocking over ten centimeter long, thumb-wide and silt-covered gash before everyone's eyes. A mixture of muddy water and blood dripped along her ankle staining her white socks red. The dark red cut looked especially jarring against her fair skin.
- Big K placed the medical kit down next to Kou Yan's hand. When he saw Man Yu's wound, he cried out in alarm, "The wound is so serious! Does it hurt? Sis...I'm so sorry. It's all our fault. If you hadn't saved us you wouldn't have..."
- Seeing Big K's guilt-ridden face, Man Yu endured the pain, and comforted him, using the gentlest voice she could muster, "It's okay, it's just a scratch, I'm just glad that you guys are okay."
- Big K repeatedly apologized and then went out to grab a dry towel and her backpack.
- Kou Yan took off his own two-strap backpack from his shoulder and found an unopened bottle of drinking water from inside. He twisted open the lid, and started to tip the bottle towards her calf without any hesitation.
- Man Yu quickly stopped him, "No need, I'll do it myself."
- "Do you know how?"
- "..." Kou Yan indifferently pushed aside Man Yu's hand, and continued cleaning her wound.
- Man was a bit speechless. She didn't know what was up with him and also had no idea whether she should thank him or apologize.
- Kou Yan was holding a water bottle and a cotton swab in his hands, and kneeling with one knee on the ground. His defined fingers gently and carefully cleaned the silt from her wound.
- His eyebrows were lightly knitted, his eyes were chilly and his tightly pursed thin lips suggested that he was in a slightly unhappy mood right now. Man Yu twitched her mouth. She guessed that maybe the reason Kou Yan was unhappy was because her getting injured had brought him trouble.
- Perhaps she felt that the atmosphere was a bit awkward; Man Yu decided to make conversation, "Did you guys encounter some trouble?
- "It's already solved."
- "Oh."
- Forget it. This person has an unpredictable temper. It's better to stay quiet.
- After around two minutes of silence, the bottle of drinking water was used up but Kou Yan's face didn't have a trace of regret. After he finished cleaning the wound, he threw the empty bottle into his bag, turned and rummaged through the medicine back and dug out bottle of povidone-iodine.
- Man Yu stopped him again, pulling back her right leg slightly. She reached out to take the bottle, and politely said, "I can apply the povidone-iodine myself. You don't need to trouble yourself."
- This time Kou Yan didn't bother replying. He dodged her hand, and grabbed her retreating right ankle.
- Man Yu was about to say something more, but even though she was thick-skinned, this sudden direct skin contact made her feel a bit flustered.
- After he finished disinfecting with povidone-iodine, Man Yu thought that this ordeal was finally over but then saw Kou Yan rummage through the medical kit again, and pull out a bottle with the label "Medical Ethanol."
- Man Yu inwardly gasped and then said somewhat diffidently, "Povidone-iodine is enough for a minor wound like this, there's no need to use ethanol, is there?"
- Kou Yan raised his eyelids, and seeing this always strong woman reveal a childlike expression, an undetectable glimmer of a smile flashed across his cold face.
- "Scared of pain?"
- "I'm not. I just think that in our current situation, we should use our medicine sparingly. We haven't gotten new supplies yet, and we still have to last for one more day..." The clear lack of confidence in her voice betrayed her inner thoughts.
- "There are all kinds of microorganisms living in the tropical rain-forest. Do you really think that you'll be able last until the time we go home?"
- "But... what if someone else gets injured?"
- Kou Yan remained undeterred and twisted open the bottle. He teased, "It's fine, there's still a big bottle left, there's enough."
- Man Yu immediately gave up hope. A watery layer of mist spread across her eyes. Isn't it just a bit of pain? I can handle a something as small as this. She turned her head to the side, "Then, thank you in advance."
- This time she didn't offer to apply it herself. The woman's eyes were closed, with an expression like she was going to her doom. Her slightly pale lips were tightly pressed together. Her eyelashes were lightly trembling because of nervousness. Kou Yan curved his lips in amusement, and actually felt that this unreasonable woman was a bit cute.
- "Don't worry, I'll be as gentle as possible."
- While Man Yu was being subjected to "torture", Nie Suhuan arrived in a rush with the production crew. Everyone quickly stormed into the tent.
- Everyone was clearly a bit baffled to see the two of them in the middle of treating her wound.
- The director quickly went up and asked, "Man Yu is injured? How did it happen?"
- Man Yu wiped away the sweat on her forehead, and said somewhat shakily, "I'm okay, I got scraped by a tree when it fell. It's just a scratch. Nothing serious."
- The director let out a breath of relief, "Thank goodness you didn't injure a muscle or bone. It's really been a hard night for you."
- Nie Suhuan looked at the man in front who was attentively and skillfully treating Man Yu's wound. A slight chill welled up in her heart. If she had known earlier that Kou Yan would come back at this time, she wouldn't have run back to find the director. If the person who got injured protecting that child was her, the person who everyone would be paying attention to right now would not be Man Yu.
- The director asked, "Suhuan told me that you found a kid?"
- Nie Suhuan snapped out of her reverie. The calm expression on her face almost slipped, "Ah, that's right. He should be in another tent. I'll take you there."
