Chapter 8 Exception

  • "What are your terms?"
  • Charmaine spread her hands and said, "I already mentioned it. Back then, I had no choice because of the dire situation I was in. I had no intention of taking advantage of Mr. Emyr.
  • "But there is one condition. For the best treatment results, I need to live with you."
  • Kane was deeply moved. "Wow, Chara! You're so eager to offer yourself and move in together? Emyr, you've hit the jackpot. Chara's madly in love with you!"
  • Emyr was speechless.
  • Charmaine had no words.
  • Ignoring her goofy younger brother, Emyr squinted slightly, staring at Charmaine.
  • He let out a cold, sarcastic smirk and said, "Ms. Nelson's attempt to get my attention is a little too lowly, don't you think?"
  • He thought she was different from the other women who tried to get close to him, but it turns out she's not that different after all.
  • Charmaine's mouth twitched. Was this man overly full of himself?
  • She reiterated, "It's purely for the best treatment results."
  • Emyr scoffed, clearly not buying her earnest declaration.
  • Charmaine didn't bother explaining further.
  • Kane swiftly moved between them, beaming with joy.
  • He promised, "Chara, don't worry! Just stay with us. I guarantee you'll be so happy here that you'll never want to go back to the Nelsons!"
  • Charmaine said, "I still need to go back to pack my things."
  • Kane hurriedly called the butler and instructed him to have the driver ready.
  • Just before she left, Charmaine suddenly remembered something. "Oh, by the way, could I look at the results from my examination earlier?"
  • Tad glanced at his master's expression, then stepped forward. "Ms. Nelson, you're in excellent health. There's no need to worry."
  • Charmaine looked at the examination report handed to her, raising her eyebrows slightly.
  • In her previous life, after donating a kidney, her health had deteriorated dramatically. It had gotten worse over time.
  • But the data in this report showed that she was in perfect health.
  • According to the timeline from her past life, the kidney donation would take place within the next two months.
  • Charmaine furrowed her brow, then tucked the report away.
  • After she left, Tad stepped forward and quietly reported, "We've received news about Robin."
  • Kane, who was busy instructing the servants to prepare the guest room next to Emyr's, nearly jumped. "Robin?!"
  • After Emyr's accident, the Crosses had been searching far and wide for a cure. They consulted with top doctors from all over the world but to no avail.
  • Their last hope lay with Basil Field, the most renowned holistic medicine expert, known for his ability to heal even seemingly incurable conditions.
  • However, Basil had retired from Beacon Hospital a few years back, embarking on a world tour with a group of highly respected researchers.
  • The last anyone heard from him, he had contacted Beacon Hospital, instructing them to take special care of his only apprentice, Robin, if Robin ever showed up. This showed how highly Basil regarded Robin's skills.
  • Tad nodded. "Yes, Mr. Kane. It's Robin."
  • Kane was overjoyed. "This is fantastic! Emyr's leg can be saved! Where is Robin now?"
  • Tad replied, "The Nelsons recently put out word that Robin is interested in collaborating with them to produce a newly developed drug. The agreement will be signed soon. I've already arranged for people to keep an eye on the Nelsons' pharmaceutical division."
  • Kane was thrilled. He exclaimed, "Great, great, this is awesome! The Nelsons are our in-laws. Chara and Emyr's marriage is practically a done deal. Besides, Chara's very concerned about Jonah's leg injury. It seems we'll soon find Robin and get Emyr treated!"
  • As for Charmaine claiming she could treat Emyr's leg, Kane dismissed it as a joke between a married couple.
  • So many top doctors had failed. He believed Chara's treatments for Emyr were nothing more than just giving a massage here and there.
  • Emyr pressed his lips together, his eyes flickering with a hint of emotion.
  • Seeing his expression, Kane leaned in with a playful grin. "I knew it. You have a special spot for Chara."
  • As Emyr's cousin, Kane knew his quirks better than anyone.
  • Since childhood, Emyr had never shown interest in women. Even in his rebellious years, he had never indulged in any wild escapades; the same applied for the three years he was away.
  • After that incident, he kept everyone at a distance.
  • But Charmaine was the one exception. She had broken through all of that.
  • Kane thought. See, men never forget their first woman. Even the mighty Emyr isn't immune to this curse!"
  • Emyr could easily tell what thoughts were behind Kane's mischievous expression.
