Chapter 5 Theo
- Ring….ring….ring….
- I tear my eyes off of the reports and computer monitor as I glance at my phone on my desk. My scowl is quickly replaced with a smile when I see Wyatt’s name flashing across my phone.
- Oh, it has been a while since I’ve been able to see him or even talk to him. I think the last time was when he came here for that meeting and that was weeks ago.
- I grab my phone and happily chime, “Hello, cous. How are things over there?”
- Wyatt’s cheery voice spills from my phone. “Hey, cous. Things are looking up here. How about you?”
- Wait. Looking up. Does that mean what I think it means? However, if I’m wrong, I don’t want to make him sad either. I guess I’ll just have to wait and let him tell me in his own time.
- I lean back in my office chair and push the documents across my desk and away from me. “I’m fine. I have to admit that this job isn’t as easy as I had planned for it to be. I know that the job is going to be somewhat of a challenge, but I didn’t expect the department heads are not able to follow rules.”
- I turn my chair around to look out the large window behind my desk, as I continue, “You are lucky that you called while I’m at my desk working and not in a meeting. I have never been anywhere where they have so many meetings. The kicker is that most of them are completely unnecessary if they would just turn in the proposals and requests to me like I have instructed.”
- A soft chuckle flows from my phone. “Theo, I never told you that it was going to run like our companies. We have our companies running very efficiently. It sounds like the university needs some overhauling of some policy and procedures.”
- I sigh and nod my head, while I slightly push the chair back and forth. “I know, but I was trying to ease everyone into it, instead of demanding everything at once. The problem is that it isn’t working. The staff is fighting me. I don’t understand why they are so resistant. Oh, I have also gained the nickname of The Ice Dean. I guess everyone sees me as some ruthless and cold-hearted person, but I don’t mind. Maybe it will keep the ladies away from me.”
- I sigh and watch a butterfly flutter around the outside of the window. “The first week that I was here was almost too much for me to handle. The ladies wouldn’t stop coming up to me. However, after the rumors about me being heartless and my new nickname stuck, I haven’t had to worry about the ladies coming up to me anymore.”
- A small frown slides across my face as I talk about those initial first days. However, it is quickly replaced with a small smile as I continue, “The only thing that I have now is some lady leaving me delicious food boxes every day, which I’m not going to complain about. At some point, I will find out who she is and thank her. It is almost making feel like I’m at home with the homecooked meals.”
- Wyatt teasingly chimes, “Ohhhhh, so you are finally looking for someone.”
- I can’t stop the soft chuckle that escapes my mouth as I continue to absent mindedly watch the butterfly flutter around outside. As my smile grows a little wider, I reply, “No, I’m not looking for someone to date. Wyatt, you know that I’m not ready for that yet. I still love and miss May so much that I still dream about her every night along with our son. What I am saying is that these little boxes of food are making feel like I’m at home, even though I’m not. I can almost feel that someone cares about me again, just like May did, but I’m still not ready. Not yet.”
- Wyatt chuckles again. “You may not think that you are ready, but if the Moon Goddess deems that you are ready, she will send you your second mate. Don’t try to refuse your second mate. You know that things don’t go well after someone tries to refuse or alter the Moon Goddess’s will.”
- I pause for moment. Could this really be the Moon Goddess’s attempt at my second mate?
- No. It can’t be. The person leaving the lunchboxes is human. I’m sure that the Moon Goddess will provide another werewolf for my second mate in a few more years, but not now.
- I softly reply, “I don’t know. Maybe.”
- Wyatt pauses for moment. “Maybe. What do you mean maybe? Even if the Moon Goddess sends you a two-headed monster as your second mate, you can’t turn away from it. She will make things difficult for you if you reject your mate. Plus, you know that you will end up falling in love with your mate and the pull will still bring you back to your mate, regardless of what your mind wants to do. So, stop fighting it.”
- Wyatt takes deep breath and pauses again. However, I don’t pay attention and keep watching the butterfly outside.
- In a soft voice, almost a whisper, Wyatt adds, “I’m not ready either, but the Moon Goddess has sent me my second mate and our future Luna.”
- What? Now, I’m wide awake.
- I instantly sit up in my chair. “Wyatt, what did you just say? The Moon Goddess has sent you your second mate.”
- Wyatt’s cheery voice from earlier is gone. Now, his voice is barely audible with a hint of reluctance. I know why the reluctance is there. He is feeling the same thing that I’m feeling. He doesn’t want to give up on his first mate, his true mate. However, he is right about the Moon Goddess. You don’t want to ignore what she has given you. She will make your life hard if you ignore her.
- Wyatt softly hums, “Yeah. He doesn’t know that he is my second mate yet. I’m giving him time to realize it himself, but with each day it is getting harder and harder to keep myself in check. I want to wrap my arms around him and claim him as mine.”
- I don’t know what to say. I didn’t think that Wyatt would find his second mate this soon.
- In more of a serious tone, Wyatt says, “Well, that is kind of why I’m calling you. I need to have his transcripts forwarded to our university. He has run away from his pack because his true mate was claimed by another and he couldn’t stand to stay. It breaks him each day a little more watching his mate with another person. So, I need the information without anyone knowing, just in case his old pack tries to look for him.”
- Oh, so Wyatt will be the second mate too. It is crazy sometimes how the Moon Goddess works things out.
- As the shock wears away, I turn my chair back towards my computer. “Okay. Not a problem. What is your mate’s name?”
- I log into the university’s software and pull up the student file screen.
- Wyatt chimes, “Kane Pollard. My second mate’s name is Kane Pollard. He was a student there up until he ran away from his previous pack. I know the new semester is going to start soon, and I’m sure that his old pack hasn’t sent in any paperwork regarding his absence.”
- As my finger type Kane’s name into the software, I cut Wyatt off. “Don’t worry. While I’m looking for his transcripts, I will also mark the appropriate boxes showing that the university has gotten a formal notice about it. I’ll also make sure that the appropriate paperwork is filled out reflecting that he is on leave. I’m not going to leave anything in the system showing that Kane is transferring to SM University, but at least, his previous pack won’t be billed for his upcoming semester.”
- Well, this is the least that I can do. If I’m back at the pack house, I would definitely be helping Wyatt win over his second mate, but knowing my cousin, I’m sure that it won’t take him long to get Kane to accept Wyatt has his second mate.
- Wyatt softly whispers, “Thanks. I’ll let our university know that the information is coming.”
- As I continue typing and scanning through the various screens, I can’t help but to smile. “Congrats, by the way. I’m happy that you have found your second mate.”
- “Thanks. I’ve got to go, but I’ll make sure that everything is set at this end so Kane can continue his schooling.”
- Kane doesn’t know how lucky he is, but I’m sure that he will soon find out.
- While still typing on the computer, I mumble, “Okay. Bye.”
- I end the phone call and put my phone back on my desk. However, while I’m working on getting Kane’s information for Wyatt, I can’t help but to wonder if the Moon Goddess is also trying to send me my second mate. It can’t be that easy, can it?
