- Veronica cried for so long that she lost track of the time. When her sobs eventually subsided into sniffles, she realized she was still leaning against Adriel's shoulder. His shirt was now soaked with her tears. She hurriedly righted herself. “I'm sorry. I've ruined your nice clothes...”
- He smiled, knowing she was feeling better than before. “Well, you can make it up by being a good girl for me. How about that?”
- Veronica glowered, though the threatening effect was dulled by her red-rimmed eyes and long lashes that were still wet with tears. She turned her head and stared out the window, refusing to answer.
