Chapter 4 Conspiracy
- “Don’t just stand there! Send her to the hospital right away! Keep the baby safe!” Luciana panicked. There was no doubt that she loved money, but her future grandchild was more important.
- Saber covered his mouth and chuckled. “Mr. Shaw, do you still plan on marrying your daughter into this family? What are you planning to get from the Westwoods?”
- Everyone’s expressions changed after hearing that while José’s face fell.
- Marrying Isabella to Jonas was just to secure their families’ profit. However, Saber would be his son-in-law if he were to marry Isabella. In other words, RS International would be his backer.
- RS International was worth a hundred Genesis Real Estate. José was a businessman, so naturally, profit came before emotions. He knew exactly what he wanted. Saber was well aware of his thoughts, so he turned to Isabella and whispered, “Are you coming with me, my lady?”
- Isabella looked away from Jonas and her erstwhile friend, then she nodded.
- Soon, she arrived at her grandfather’s and mother’s graves. Then she took out a napkin and wiped their photos clean.
- Isabella mumbled dejectedly, “Sorry, Grandpa, Mom. Jonas and I are done. We are never getting married now.”
- As she slowly traced her mother’s face, tears started rolling down her cheeks. “Mom, I have lived my life the way you asked me to, but I am left with no choice now. I’m only twenty-two, and there’s still a long way to go before I can live up to your expectation. Unfortunately, I can’t take over the company yet with my current ability.”
- “Grandpa, Mom, I thought everything will get better after I get married, but now...” She covered her mouth to keep herself from crying out loud.
- Her shoulders were shaking, and she curled up into a ball of tears in front of the tombstones.
- All the hardships that came after her since her mother’s passing rendered her into a quiet, enduring woman.
- She knew her father disliked her, while her stepmother and stepsister hated her. It wasn’t easy growing up in a family that despised her.
- She kept telling herself that everything would get better. Once she got married to Jonas, she could leave this place.
- She was delighted when her father told her he would hold the engagement ceremony for her and Jonas. He promised they would get engaged first, and she would marry him after her graduation next year.
- She thought that her graduation would be her key to freedom.
- Jonas was the man she loved. Isabella believed that her late grandfather and mother had planned the best marriage for her, that Jonas was the guardian they had chosen for her.
- When they were kids, Jonas would always keep her company and treat her kindly.
- Her grandfather passed away when she was eight, whereas her mother followed him two years later.
- From then on, her whole world plunged into darkness.
- Two years after her mother’s demise, Jonas decided to go overseas to study. She was in tears after she found out about it.
- Isabella didn’t want him to go. She was scared about losing the one person who was connected to her grandfather and mother.
- Isabella could still vividly remember how Jonas held her hand and told her, “Wait for me, Isabella. When I grow up, I’ll come back and take you as my wife.”
- His words were still echoing in her ears right now. Over the years, she had spent all her time and effort on Jonas. Isabella painstakingly tried to maintain their relationship, and she treasured their annual meet-ups even though it was brief.
- She tried her best to become the kind of woman Jonas liked, even to the point of changing herself.
- She endured Julia and Yvonne’s insults and mockery, holding on to the belief that everything would pass. She thought that her nightmare would be over once she married Jonas.
- Marrying Jonas was the raison d’etre for her determination ever since he left. It was her ultimate goal in life. All possibilities in life she could imagine ended with marrying Jonas.
- She believed that after marrying him, her life would start anew. Everything would be better then.
- Whenever she starved, bumped into a hurdle, or was locked up in a dark room, holding on to this belief would give her immeasurable courage.
- However, everything in the past ceased to exist as of today.
- That marriage would never become a reality, and the utopia she created in her mind had fallen apart.
- Isabella’s heart was ripped into pieces, leaving only a bleeding void that had nothing but pain.
- After some time, she looked up and wiped her tears away. “I’m going to live for myself from now on, Grandpa, Mom. I won’t disappoint you.”
- Whatever happens, life goes on.
- It was almost sunset when Isabella came out from the cemetery. Saber’s car was sitting quietly at the gates, which surprised her.
- He came down to open the passenger seat’s door for her, and Isabella thanked him before entering his car.
- Saber got into the car and looked at her. Right then, Isabella’s eyes and nose were red, and she seemed worn out. “I’ll get a place for you to rest,” he said.
- Isabella shook her head. She knew she couldn’t dodge her problems forever, so Isabella chose to face them head-on.
- “Thank you for helping me today, Mr. Moore.” Isabella’s voice was raspy and nasal.
- Saber started the engine while asking her, “Where do you want to go?”
- “Can you send me home?” she said softly.
- Saber asked for the address and drove on without saying another word. Meanwhile, Isabella leaned against the window and closed her eyes, completely silent as well.
- At the same time, José, Amanda, and Yvonne were sitting solemnly on the couch at home.
- Yvonne broke the silence, “Dad, you can’t let Isabella marry Mr. Moore.”
- José had thought about it on the way back. He thought marrying Isabella to Saber would profit him immensely, but he felt that something was amiss.
- When Yvonne spoke, he looked up at her. “Why?” he asked.
- Yvonne opened her mouth, but nothing came out. I can’t say it’s because I want to marry him myself.
- She then shifted her gaze to her mother.
- Amanda poured a glass of water for José and said calmly, “Honey, Isabella and Jonas’ marriage has been decided before they were born. Everyone knows about it. Won’t it be controversial if Isabella were to marry into the Moore Family? Won’t they look down on her because of her previous relationship with Jonas?”
