Chapter 8 Back In America

  • Catherine's POV
  • "Mummy, we are in America!" Liam squealed, as he bounced down the stairs of the helicopter, with Mr Thomas following closely behind him.
  • "Be careful, sweetie," I sighed, tightly holding onto Leo who seemed wary of his new surroundings.
  • "This place is strange and hot," Leo muttered. "I don't like America. When are we going back to Canda, mummy?"
  • "Soon," I lied, knowing fully well that I had signed a contract to be a neurosurgeon at the America branch for one year, at least.
  • "Really soon or far soon?" He scrutinized my expression as if trying to deduce an ounce of lie on my face.
  • "Soon soon, baby," I lied again, just as three bald burly men that were identically dressed in black suits and dark sunshades trekked up to us.
  • "Welcome to America, ma'am," They bowed in unison to me before collecting our luggage and turning to Mr Thomas.
  • "It's been a while, sir," They said to him, and he nodded.
  • "It sure has," He said. "Take the luggage to the car. How many cars did you bring?"
  • "Two, sir,"
  • "Very well then," Mr Thomas nodded. "Give me the keys to the other car."
  • One of the bodyguards quickly handed him the keys, bowed to me again, before leaving with our luggage.
  • "Who are they?" I asked, sidling with Mr Thomas to the other car; a black range rover defender.
  • "They are from my security company," He divulged. "They help with stuff like this."
  • "You have a security company?" I questioned. "Just how many businesses do you have exactly, sir?"
  • "About ten. I may have lost count," He chuckled, opening the door for Leo and Liam who smiled shyly at him before climbing in.
  • I had forgotten to bring their car seats from Canada.
  • I just hoped that there was a children's mall or something akin to that nearby.
  • "That's really cool," I commended him. "I could never run a business. Hell, I'd run it into bankruptcy. Only the heavens know what I'd have done if you weren't here to guide me with the estates and all."
  • Smiling, he reached forward to open my side of the car and I shook my head.
  • "It's fine, sir."
  • "You remind me so much of Madam Ophelia, you know?" He shook his head as he stared at me. "Not only are you her mirror image but you also have a pleasant personality just like her."
  • "I'm glad to hear that." I beamed, as he went over to the driver's seat.
  • When I told him that I was returning to America for work, Mr Thomas had given me a strange look as if I had just confessed to murder.
  • Thereafter he had launched into an argument vehemently stating that he couldn't let me go back there because he had promised my mother that he'd protect me from Alessandro.
  • Eventually, he had agreed to allow me return to America on one condition; that he'd go with me to see how things were.
  • Some days after I got to Canada, I had narrated my whole ordeal with Alessandro to both mum and the elder man.
  • Mum had been infuriated with him but Mr Thomas was even angrier.
  • He even suggested I sued Alessandro for a huge amount of money for emotional abuse.
  • I didn't do as he said because I was hellbent on avoiding anything that would cause him and I to meet again.
  • For all I cared, he was as good as dead to me.
  • Hell, I was even planning to tell the twins that he was dead if they ever asked me about him.
  • An hour and a couple of minutes later, we got to my new residence; a huge building that housed many condos.
  • "You could have just stayed in one of your estates," Mr Thomas huffed, as we carried a sleepy Liam and a fast asleep Leo out of the car.
  • "That would be too much work," I countered. "I don't want maids or anything like that at all. I want to raise Leo and Liam right. I don't want them to become one of those stuck-up rich kids that bully people."
  • "Catherine, they have a lovely soul like you as their mother. There's no way that could possibly happen." Mr Thomas said, as we stepped into the elevator and I clicked on the fifth floor.
  • "Maybe in the future, we will move into one of the estates. But for now, the three of us will live modestly." I said.
  • "The ball is in your court, dear," He replied. "By the way, I'm returning to Canada tomorrow. I'll spend the night in a hotel, so you don't have to worry about it."
  • "Hotel?" I frowned. "You can stay with us. It's a five bedroom condo and the twins and I can't possibly sleep in all the rooms, can we?"
  • He chuckled at my joke and sighed. "I really don't want to be a bother, Catherine."
  • "Well, you're not."
  • "Okay then, if you say so," He nodded. "Thank you."
  • "You don't have to thank me, sir," I said, as we stepped into the condo.
  • The place felt warm, homey and right for me.
  • It had a minimalistic brown and white design which made me fall in love with it more because I had also designed my condo in Canada with white and brown themes.
  • "I love this place," I said. "Your men did a great job with it, Mr Thomas."
  • "Really?"
  • "Of course, sir. It's so cool.*
  • Then, Mr Thomas and I located the twins room which was designed with Pokemon and Angry birds posters and merchandise on either side.
  • Leo had an unhealthy obsession with the red bird while Liam loved Pokemon and anything related to it.
  • The twins were definitely going to love the design.
  • "Thanks again for the wonderful design, Mr Thomas." I uttered, and he waved it off.
  • "It's nothing, dear."
  • I was really touched by the fact that he cared enough about the twins to even know their likes and dislikes.
  • Mr Thomas was truly like the father I never had or met.

  • Alessandro's POV
  • As I strutted to the conference room to attend a meeting with the shareholders of my company, my phone vibrated with a call.
  • Retracting it from my pocket, I saw that it was Marco calling me.
  • "Speak," I said.
  • "Boss, she's back," He said. "She is back in America."
  • "Who?" I frowned.
  • "Ma'am Catherine," He divulged. "According to my sources, she came back about a week ago."
  • I almost dropped my phone at the sudden yet joyous revelation.
  • After years of looking for her, the love of my life was finally back.
  • However, as happy as the news made me, a question still tugged at my chest.
  • "Wait, why did she come back? Did something happen to her?" I asked.
  • "No, sir," He responded. "But I'm currently looking into the reason behind her sudden appearance as we speak."
  • "Good job, Marco," I said. "You did great. Keep me updated on any new development, okay?"
  • "Alright, sir. But you shouldn't thank me for doing my job." He said.
  • "Very well then. I'm hanging up." I uttered, and ended the call.
  • Catherine was back which meant one thing;
  • Everything was really going to change from now on.
